Just clean boxing from AJ, showed the beauty of the basics…Ngannou was never good at striking even in MMA, he just relied on his physicality over his opponents mostly…no disrespect to him because it’s way too much to ask for Ngannou at his age and activity to do anything well over a boxer like AJ, but he accomplished well for himself getting the opportunity and the big pay outside of the results in the ring… While the performance by AJ will do a lot for his popularity and marketing, he shouldn’t get a lot credit for this win because Ngannou had no advantages coming into this outside of his physicality and what he got from the Fury experience…but I will give AJ credit for his professionalism before and after the fight, he’s been really focused since the Usyk rematch… And Gems is making a point with that thumbnail…
@Eddybo22

Joshua DESERVES ALL THE CREDIT. What do you mean he doesn't deserve alot of credit? You realize he always said it was a "Gimmick Fight" and this happened because 1)Wilder has proven allergic to $100 Million dollar paydays and couldn't get over the line yet again to face Joshua 2) Ngannou was the one who called Joshua out and 3) This needed to happen because Wilder didn't fulfil his end of the bargain. If Joshua lost this fight can you imagine the SLANDER THIS MAN WOULD HAVE GOT? 😮‍💨🤯🤯🤯. Was Ngannou carrying false confidence from the Fury fight? 1000000000% Yes. If you listened to his trainer you would have thought Joshua had never boxed before a day in his life. Not to mention all the sly comments from former boxers like Lewis, Johnny Nelson, Carl Froch. His own broadcast host Ade, even though he chose Joshua was highly negative in his choice and felt like there was no way he could survive Ngannou. You would think Joshua was not an Olympic gold medalist and two time heavyweight champion listening to these guys. The amount of slander he has got in his career makes no sense. Every Joshua face off we have thousands of expert arm chair psychologists who all of a sudden know what Joshua is thinking and guarantee a loss meanwhile they can't even predict the lottery numbers or which way the market will go. Was I nervous going into the fight? Yes I was but I didn't doubt Joshua would win, I just didn't expect it would be so sudden and brutal. I still said had Ngannou won, he would deserve ALL THE CREDIT. This is what Tyson Fury SHOULD HAVE DONE. But Fury as always gets by through the skin of his teeth and because of another anticipated fight(Just like when he didn't deserve the win versus Wallin and it should have been stopped but Wilder/Fury 2 was on the line) and gets continued praise as the "Best heavyweight in the world" which is straight BS. If Fury did this to Ngannou the first go around I guarantee you Joshua would have been facing Hrgovic or Kabayel or Sanchez or someone else and not Ngannou. He never had any intentions of taking this fight until Ngannou himself came calling. As a result he didn't avoid the call out so he DESERVES ALLLLL THE CREDIT. Usyk to me is still Number 1. Fury is only number 2 because he holds the WBC Hostage belt which is what he and Wilder turned it into. Joshua is number 3. Period. Joshua never got his respect at all when he was Unified Champion. The fact people had Wilder and Fury above him while he was champion always bothered me but it is what it is.

On the credit discussion for AJ. It's not about this one fight. You need to take into account the difference Ben Davison has made and the attitude AJ has gone into his fights recently in 2023 and now this fight. The culmination of that work showed in this fight regardless of who he was fighting, so yes I think he does deserve credit for his approach and for me improved fighting tenacity shown in this fight which has always been a bit suspect.
@Eddybo22
@Eddybo22 2 месяца назад
@@dtrjones you're definitely right on that. People don't give him credit for becoming a more rounded fighter since his losses to Usyk. They make fun of his changing if trainers and all that but it has yielded more beneficial results for him than if he stayed with one. They say "The old Joshua is back" but he really never was gone he just had his confidence dented from those losses as any fighter would. He had to come back from that not to mention he is probably the most criticized fighter since Ali was back in the day and the standards he gets held to versus Wilder and Fury are many times incredulous and down right hilarious to see. He has the BEST resume in the division and some how gets treated like he has the worst one and some how because Fury is undefeated he is better than Joshua. Even Usyk in his limited time at heavyweight is far better than Fury or Wilder's give the opponents he faced and the styles in which he beat and retained his titles. Yes Ngannou was an MMA fighter and all that but he still chose to lace them up and challenge Joshua. It wasn't Joshua that went looking for the fight. Remember he called it a gimmick fight but he still stood up to take the challenge when it came up. That's integrity. He should be commended for what he did instead of the majority of people always joining the "Yeahhhh but" team when it comes to Joshua's accomplishments.

AJ was controlling the distance, that's all he was doing. Basic, fundamental stuff. The usual feinting, checking with the jab etc but Ngannou _didn't even realise_ that AJ was controlling the distance. This was what everybody predicted Fury would do (but didn't), Ngannou cannot go from MMA to challenging a Boxing _champion_ and expect to more than a few rounds. It was beginner-level fundamental boxing technique that Ngannou lacked here.

Great recap of the important details of the fight. One thing I noticed here that I didn't notice before is that at 1:50 AJ is so confident of how well he can measure Ngannou's range, that positions his head PERFECTLY at the end of the jab, so that Ngannou's glove barely touches him, then delivers a crushing right counter. Wow. Also, can you comment on how similar the final knockout blow was to the one that Juan Manuel Marquez landed to beat Pacquiao in their 4th fight? Thanks.
@BoxingGems

It’s not similar. One was a counterpunch against a southpaw aggressively attacking, the other initiated a level change overhand against an orthodox fighter. Footwork was completely different as well.

Not only am I happy the disrespectful MMA community got humbled, but also Francis specifically. He was throwing shade at Boxing when him and Fury went at it at the press conference. Then he said after he got folded "Boxing owes me now" No buddy you owe Boxing for the clout you got and the 2 gigantic paychecks. You'll never get that from MMA. Humble yourself! MMA is for people who don't have hands. No boxer wants to go to MMA to rub on some dudes wearing tiny shorts and get paid that Conservative money.

Let’s be real fury came in and started talking shit when Francis was answering questions. Francis never threw shade at boxing he threw shade at fury because of their fight. Francis told the truth and said if it wasn’t for boxing rules fury wouldn’t survive a fight with him. Had that been mma and Francis drop fury he would have jumped on him and finished. No lie in Francis statement. Don’t try and make Francis look like the bad guy when fury started talking shit first and being disrespectful.

UFC is a RACIST organization that doesn't respect Boxing because they view it as a 'Black' fighting style. Their fans were so delusional that they thought that their own watered-down version of a Boxer (Striker) could outbox an Olympic Boxer. They praised Ngannou's name from the heavens when Fury carried him to a decision during a Boxing EXHIBITION match and thought that they were the premier fighting organization, only to have their dreams crushed when their best Striker nearly lost his life to a Boxer that was only going about 50% using the basics like faints and footwork. They need to stop with these gimmick fights or someone is going to lose their lives.

Most fighters don't like having done to them what they do to others. Taking down and rag dolling a wrestler for instance. Francis Ngannou is a big black power puncher. Curtis Blaydes is a wrestler, Jairzinho Rozenstruik is an undersized counter striker, and Ciryl Gane doesn't throw with power. In MMA, the only time he ever faced a big black dude who moves forward with hard strikes, Derrick Lewis, he was hesitant and lost. Same as against AJ.

The way Ngannou got knocked out is how half these mma fighters get knocked out in the octagon all the time. Every person has a habit or mannerism which will show even if you try to train in hiding it. Francis' MMA defense mannerism shows here which shows his reaction to fakes being set up by AJ. Compared to a life long trained boxer, it will be different otherwise. If he really wants to box full time, I think he should ditch MMA and get fights from the top 20 or lower just to get his rhythm and basics.
