I don’t understand why there are so many negative comments said about this video, and Joss in general! This is an extraordinary performance by one of the very lesser known, yet talented, artists around now imo! I’m 67 years old and was a trained classical pianist and organist since I was 5. However, I love all genres of music - but ONLY if they are done well. I learned at an early age that a person can learn how to read notes and play/sing them, but that doesn’t mean they have the ability to make music ‘come to life’. This can only be achieved when it comes from deep within one’s heart and soul, and this is exactly what Joss is doing here, and in her other performances! For those who aren’t able to understand, recognize, and to appreciate it, tells me how limited their horizons are when it comes to music! *** Being the age I am, I grew up listening to Janis Joplin doing this same song, and I honestly like this one more!
I think that joss does not have the timbre of voice to interpret this song, but without a doubt it is a great interpretation, the sensitivity is very diverse in people, therefore not all of us agree that it is a good cover,
@@jacintocadi8888 Thanks for your 2 replies on my comment. I’m going to check out the other cover you suggested by M. E. and compare them both. You are 100% correct though that music is a personal preference and choice. But there’s so much out there that there’s something for everyone, no matter what style or genre they like - that to me is one of the reasons that makes it so wonderful❗️
Because she decided not to do what producers think will be sold better. She said smt like that. She is into music not into fame :) I loved her tour from country to country and meeting local musicians and learning about music in those countries. She sings with them in their languages. Look for it on u tube :) She made it to the Balkans which was surprising to me. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4OpZmQpZcac.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kyiclbo9wSk.html
Same here as for listening to Janis for over 50 years, however I honestly think Joss does a better job with her performance of this song! She’s also amazing with her other renditions of other popular vocalists - both male and female imo!
@@adabofeverything7120 I haven’t seen the video you just mentioned, but it’s not a contest as who’s the better/best singer of Janis Joplin’s songs! Everyone has their own style and interpretation, and the comparison in this original comment was meant to be (I believe) between Joss and Janis only. You’re taking it to a completely different dimension by comparing Joss with Pink and a different song altogether! In my earlier reply to Shannon’s, I agreed with her 100%.
She just might be the best pure singer Ive heard in a very long time. The kind of voice that comes around maybe once every generation. She really is the best
beautifull ,she is top perform ,as you said many tried and failed i try many songs of janis but im never happy ith my results as a man is more difficult
You know why she is so underrated?Because soul is not for everyone. It's a state of mind and soul, mixed together trough music which is a privilege for a few 'chosen' among us. To express this feeling through voice and stage presence is a rare breed. So many singers but so little SOUL singers today which makes Joss one of a kind. I would be very surprised if she rises up to a superstar. And maybe this is better. Sometimes really good things not need to be exposed so much. Otherwise they will be spoiled somehow. Let's have Joss for those who could appreciate real soul. It's okay this way since time has the final word who comes to be the legend.
I agree. Many people, especially on youtube, are obsessed with pop belting and classical techniques, like they only judge singers based on how they hit high notes using classical techniques. If the singer can not hit a certain measurement of note with the proper classical technique, its not good for them. They dont care about the emotions, soul, the genre. Its toxic and annoying.
white soul is more on the celtic and nordic side. there is some dishonesty about white "roots" music. there was colonialism, fascism etc. which the music is not guilty for. but whenever it comes up, it is called out for attracting fascism, when it should be used to bring peace. joss stone is doing something good, and the whole thing should receive respect and support.
I'm an American who just recently discovered this multi talented British singer. Not much about her across the pond. Love watching her perform. Her voice is so soulful.
I too am from the States and discovered Joss about a month ago. I’ve since searched YT and everywhere else for more of her concert videos and songs. I think she’s amazing, no matter what song she does! Another ‘young’ lady (I’m 67) who is, imo, similar to Joss and also not well known or publicized is Beth Hart, esp. when she does duets with Joe Bonamassa! Another great talented artist!
@Skinny Bones Jones Not to mention Aretha's sister, Erma, who was the first to release this, frankly incredible song in 1967. In fact, here's the original: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L0QAxIKf8G4.html - I hope you'll agree that this is much, much better than Janis Joplin's rendition...
When Joss comes in the room the walls shake just because she is there … then she starts to sing and tears them down. Love the style of this lovely lady.
Except, of course, JANIS JOPLIN WASN'T THE FIRST ARTIST TO SING THIS SONG - that would be Erma Franklin, who sang it much, MUCH better than Janis, in 1967. Just saying.
@@richardpierpoint7515 Yes. Erma Franklin was one of America's greatest singers. The version of janis is just more famous. But today, nobody sings this song like Joss Stone !
She just has everything.... amazing and unparalleled voice, stunning beauty and a shining personality.... never fails to make me smile and feel good when I hear her 👏👏👏
Janis was one of the greatest singers the world has ever seen. All renditions of songs that she performed are tributes to her. Joss knows that, and I admire her fearlessness in reprising one of Janis's greatest hits, and her performance!
This Babes one of the best female vocalist I've ever heard. So underated and that just shows me how many people just really don't have a clue what class and talent really Is !
I have been a Janis Joplin forever and this is the only performer to come close to her with this song. Great job Joss, but no one can make me feel the pain in this song like Janis.
Being a huge fan of Janis I came to this video with fear, but I have believed Joss Stone really is some artist since I was a kid. Well, I wasn’t wrong at all
Nowadays her voice is even more beautiful than before with belting technique And it was already so good before. Her voice remember for me not only Janis Joplin's, but Amy winehouse too! Very Good!
I feel refreshed after seeing this video and seeing these comments. I missed people appreciating these kinds of vocalist and musicians just like youtube in 2000s. The modern youtube is now invaded by fans of pop belters measuring high notes and only basing someone's talent on proper classical techniques and how high they can sing. Its very toxic nowadays. Artists like aretha franklin and janis joplin are being compared with singers who use "proper techniques" and are being discredited for the talent they really have.
GOD i thaught the same... like if he is pointing out her age or something?, or saying that her time is about to end because of her age?. That guy must shut up!
Joss stone it's Kevin hamory you are a mighty strong woman woman of almighty god please keep doing all that you do cause you are more then on the absolute right track in life god bless you dear
Yes she fucking is! She amazing, my father that would have been 93 yrs old this year, I am the youngest girl out of 4 girls, and I absolutely love all kinds of music, I miss him immensely and he was teaching me some more beautiful information! She is my absolute fav ever since, 2006! Every time I play Joss Stone, my dad is saying you go girl at the age of 59 and beating cancer, I know she's definitely your favorite, love you Josh but I truly miss my daddy he was my rock! God bless you baby girl!!!!!
Have been listening and watching Joss since the first Soul Sessions. She always amazes me. She always has a great band, especially her bass player. He excels with this song.
I'm only very recently discovered Joss Stone. I am awed by this young lady's range in tone and inflections in her voice-throaty, gentle, sensuous, captivating. I feel very lucky to have stumbled across her tracks and now that I have, I long to see her in concert. Bravo Joss Stone! the real thing.
I love how she sings with her band.. you can tell...with this and really all she's done...her soul is music. Thank you Mrs stone.for another amazing performance
Another respectful cover of a great track originally performed by a unique artist. Joss Stone is equally talented and brings something new to the song. Brilliant and loving it.
@@dakingbey yup, originally recorded by Erma.....written by Bert Berns, originally for Van Morrison. But how are Joss Stone fans expected to know anything about music?
This was the 1st video I saw of Joss, and when this lovely woman walked onto the stage she looked so sweet, shy/bashful, and innocent, BUT seconds later out came that amazing voice - totally unexpected and awesome!
She is something else...........reminds me of the first time I heard Bonnie Raitt.........different kinds of singers but both have a passion few have. Really something else.
oh? my God!! what is it? this singer is awesome !! I already loved her, now I love more !! even more singing a song by a great singer that I always loved !! Wow!!🤘👏👏🎸🎸❤❤
Uma voz memorável. Desde minha adolescência, quando obtive melhor percepção de música. Opinião continua a mesma: e até hj a melhor voz que já escutei!!!!
