It is exactly the same in Sweden. I know a journalist and we bumped into each other in the store and came to talk about the Ukraine conflict and my comment was similar to this NZ journalist. The reaction I got surprised me. He told me I was basically a victim of propaganda and then he repeated the Pentagon version. I was surprised that a journalist working for one of the biggest newspapers in the country was so misinformed. That was my comment. After that I have seen the news in Sweden and its absurdly low-level and pure Pentagon propaganda. I am 69 and have never experienced this level of disinformation by the established media before. I also take part of information from different countries and it is the same there. People lose their jobs, are detained, their electronics are confiscated and they themselves are being charged under some Terrorist act or law. They are scared of their own citizens and are now trying to silence people. We live in really dark times and its getting darker still.

Brave journalist. We are in desperate need of people like mr. Hall. Thank you!

Stopped watching mainstream corporate journalism a decade ago. It was malevolent, evil and stupid and basically used for predatory abuse against its consumers.

I'm a New Zealander. I remember this travesty well. I certainly made my opinion of the "cut and paste" journalists known. Subsequently I'm blocked on most NZ news comment platforms.

I Live in NZ and noticed in January 2020 that RNZ news had suddenly shifted from providing a 'news outlet' to engaging in a comprehensive 'propaganda campaign'. I continued to listen to the station - since I'd relied upon their ad-free outlet for 40 years - with growing shock and dismay. Then I sent them a letter questioning their shift, which wasn't responded to, and finally I 'broke up' with them, and sent them a letter telling them as much. I'm very grateful to hear the inside story of what happened to Mike Hall. Thank you Pascal, and Mike. Hope you've found other options that aren't a violation of basic integrity.

Mick's story was a big deal here in NZ. Early reports, especially from outside of RNZ, gave the impression that he was a secretive mole propagandist, likely receiving directions and money from Moscow. My first reaction was to write to RNZ asking for examples of inaccuracy in Mick's edits. No reply. Then again, I asked whether they would air a discussion of the controversy, perhaps with a general exploration of the role of news and propaganda in wartime. Silence...

I never listen to mainstream media anymore. I am very open about this, and I tell people why. It’s very important that we share and spread this new reality.

I remember seeing a video online of multiple news shows and channels all saying the same thing word for word so much that they were all overlapping. It was crazy to think how uniform our media has become.

Thank you Pascal. This is of particular interest to me because Mike experienced a similar childhood to me and we both live in the same country now, although I have never met him or heard of him. What he says makes sense to me. Kiwis try to keep their head down and not upset the boat. We are joined at the hip with the biggest players. The media and population is more interested in Cricket, fishing and rugby league, and god help anyone who tries to spoil their fun. Deep down eveyone has some idea what is happening but if we start chiming against the dominant narrative, who knows what can happen to our economy or society in general. There was a time when we spoke out against things like Apartheid in South Africa, the war in East Timor, Pacific nuclear testing and more recently, drilling for oil and gas in 3000 meters off East Cape. One of the captains of a fishing boat got jailed for protesting. Petrobras was the company, which was 51% owned by George Soros, the guy who funded the Obama government. By the way, if you get a chance, I would love to understand the relationship between Soros, Orban and Zionist Israel. I think I have an idea, and how Russia plays into that mix, but if you can find someone to discuss it, it would be wonderful. Back to our deafening silence on global strife, this government makes zero comments about ceasefire and genocide in Gaza. I emailed both them (the govt)and RNZ many times asking them to speak up, but not a word. " (Its just not cricket to talk about these things). We are of course one of the somewhat blinkered 5 eyes and we tremble at the thought of even critiquing mainstream Western blurb. I used to love RNZ, but one day just after the 'SMO' in Ukraine started, I emailed RNZ to say this is about weakening Russia and long term to weaken China because the US can't compete economically with Asia and god forbid Eur-Asia! I also emailed RNZ asking more news on Lybia since that debacle. They did reply to that saying they do run articals, but there was limited coverage and nothing about the real problems going on there and why. I also sent them a doco on Sakashvili and how he shelled that South Ossetian town to provoke Russia into response and how Russia got blamed for invading instead coming in to protect the inhabitabts from the Sakashvili government. I sent a doco of what a weet Bank Palestinian family experiences when an Israeli settler just moved into their house and they can do nothing about it. Kim Hill did respond to that, but not to me personally. Kim Hill has since left RNZ. She was one of the sharpest journalists but had to tow the line as well, to keep her job no doubt. I don't listen to RNZ or watch NZ media now. They have their head in the sand. It is pathetic how little and weak we are, compared to what we were like about 20 yeaes ago. Hopefully the world comes to ots senses soon. Thank you!🙏

BZ makes me scared in Sweden, the opposite sude of the planet but yet so close. I saw the ugly face of totalitarianism during Covid in NZ (and Australia). I never thought such actions were possible in "the West".

I sent the link to the substack to some Europeans. All the replies were along the lines of "he added Russian propaganda to an article and was surprised?".

I've spent tens of thousands of hours with RNZ content, mainly radio while driving or doing manual work. It was wonderful once. Not perfect of course, but they aired differing viewpoints, had terrific interviews and had some direct reportage from overseas. By the time of the COVID absurdity I was lost to it. Couldn't bear to listen to the lies, bullying and smug ignorance. And it hurt to know that so many friends and family were swallowing this stream of shit which I had to swim against in every conversation. Thank you Mick! I'm an American great-grandmother in my early 70s. I ask myself whether it's true that I live in a "free country" or whether that's just propaganda which I've come to believe is true simply because I've heard it all my life. My conclusion is (considering the number of subjects we are limited to what we can speak on without being punished, censored, and there's more than a few), that no, we don't live in a free country here in America. It doesn't look like they're faring any better in other Western nations either.

What is there to understand America wanted to install nuclear missiles on the Russian border with Ukraine. Russia said that’s a threat to them and said they would not allow Ukraine to join NATO so there would be no nuclear missiles on its border. Although the Americans have bases there. This scenario is the same as the Cuban crisis the only difference is president Kennedy chose to negotiate and did not allow the military to dictate to him. As a kiwi, its very nice to hear Mick's side of the story - he is 100% correct and I very vocally defended his actions in the weeks following. I wish more kiwis got to hear from him, and in-turn, hear about our media's imperial capture.

Not like in my youth in the seventeeth. Before private TV and during pirate radio. We went to the forests near my hometown in West Germany to broadcast30 min of free radio and then we had to flee from the cops. Today yes, official news outlets are terrible, but there are so many alternatives on youtube,substack, telegram and many more. Not eevn old people like me watch state teleision or read Legacy media

I'd like to hear more about what leverage the US and UK governments have over Reuters to influence their narrative. I remember Noel Chomsky gave us some insights on the control mechanisms used on public broadcasters in "Manufacturing Consent", but that was a long time ago. Also, Reuters is a private company based in Canada, so it must be corporate sponsorship and interests perfectly aligning with the US State Department's views.

Very unfortunate and unfair for you Mick but your encounter had big value in awakening some people who are still unaware. Every exposure counts. The world deserve peace and that requires an awakening of the societies. Thanks!

The issue is whether the altered Reuters piece was attributed to Reuters or attributed to the reporter. Reuters either doesn't want words they didn't write attached to there name or it's a case of censorship if attribution was not given to Reuters.

This is what we need. More people of conscience in journalism. Sadly many can’t because of financial constraints. This fellow is a hero but unfortunately is probably paying the price for his good conscience and honesty. This is the world we are currently lumbered with . Use your critical thinking is our only defence.

Four things deserve attention here: 1- an American lawyer following a New Zealand news portal is something very unlikely; 2- an American lawyer following a New Zealand news portal and really bothered by a version of news that is uncomfortable despite being true is something worthy of a dystopian film; 3- an American lawyer making someone on the other side of the planet lose their job because they did their job in a reasonable manner is a new dimension that can be added to the definition of the banality of evil; 4- I am a lawyer and I do not have time to be monitoring what the press says or does not say because I know that it almost always tells lies or half-truths cooked up by petty interests and besides, I have to use my time to work and earn my living. What the hell did this guy gain by harming someone he does not know? That said, I would like to suggest a mental exercise here. If the New Zealand journalist had added to the news only the phrase "the Russians invaded Crimea with the help of an evil totalitarian alien race" would any American lawyer have complained? I don't think so. The case would not be noticed or worse would make the journalist be catapulted to fame with the help of NATO maniacs and the schizophrenic imperialists of the Trumpist alt-right.

Although I fully support Mick Hall's attempt to bring a more balanced view to the people of N-Z, I do understand why he could lose his job as a journalist in this case. He basically admits he wants to change the one-sided narrative by Reuters & Co., while they want to keep that one-sided narrative alive and make it even more one-sided. If he wants to enlighten the people, he cannot do so under a Reuters flag. He would have to write solely under his own name which (no offence) obviously has less chance of reaching a larger audience or getting published. It has to be clear which person or organisation says what, otherwise we might start believing Reuters at some point. ;)
