I've heard that many times before. The way things are going now, it's far more likely the whole internet will fall to censorship, the other platforms will disappear, and youtube will still be around.
Yup, this slashing down of free discussion and debate has been running through the roof over the last five years or so. Also, they really want to drive their own adverts and useless "suggestions for videos you might like" down our throats - all to try to maximize their own ad income.
Yup. A friend of mine saw his profile taken down a week before the 2020 US election - interestingly, because he had been too outspoken about Orange Man, his politics and his fans, but not in a way that in any sense amounted to "hateful speech". Still got his comments reported en masse by various MAGAts, he was short-term blocked a couple of times and in the end his profile was deleted as a "suspected Russian influence account". 😃 And since 2022, with the ongoing war in eastern Europe, I have become used to getting hundreds of my own comments removed or m*ted every month, simply because I happen to be critical of NATO and on roughly the same wavelength as this channel or the Duran. There is no doubt that Y T have switched to a whole new level of controlling, screening and subduing the talk on the platform.

Everyone needs to hit RU-vid, where it hurts, in the pocket. Boycott all Google platforms. Cancel RU-vid premium if you have it. Send a strong message. Censorship will NOT be tolerated.
@@lunchik2689 I did, to get rid of their ads. YT censorship, however, made me cancel it a couple of months ago. The best thing would be to stop watching content on YT altogether.

I think what's especially irksome to American platforms (and pundits) is having the US criticized and taken down by outsiders. It's like, "yeah sure I can agree between us that Bush Jr was questionable but we're not gonna have some African, German or Greek guy telling us that on a US platform, right in our own front yard" (while American pundits and public figures have no problem lecturing the rest pf the world)

I'm an old school socialist in his late 60s who has long advocated the usual things - peace, workers' rights and anti-fascism, since around 2009 mainly on Twitter where I had gained a modest 10k followers. Until around a month ago when my account was unceremoniously "suspended." Not a huge deal in my case other than losing my only public voice - at least there are no financial implications in my case. But I am outraged and horrified by the current wave of censorship and repression and extend my sympathy and solidarity to all affected whatever their political stripe.
Mine was suspended both by the previous owners and "mister Free Speech" himself. I didn't have many followers, and I don't want "followers" - I just want to be a virus that infects the hivemind of the working classes. I've managd to do alright in my isolation, even despite the repeated attempts. I think a million pricks (sic!) can bring down the empire just like a million tiny cuts can bring down a bull.

One vector is the online application process of AWS - they use your social security number and other data there to track, sort and eliminate you. This will be a more widespread thing as we go forward. We have already seen the first hints of it in the reaction of the Canadian government in freezing the accounts of truckers and other protesters. We must begin to build alternative channels of communication and economic activity if we plan to survive together. We'll be eliminated if we try to survive individually.

I was just thinking about paying to avoid adverts, but I realize I have seen most of the good stuff that has been done, and most of the new stuff to come will be censored. Censorship only ever accelerates once started so there are growing exponential reasons to not subscribe. I got into computers for freedom of information, not for insulting propaganda, so I think my pennies will flow in an opposite direction to this.

There needs to be a plug-in that would let you move between YT proper and discussions linked to a YT video but hosted outside of it (like, in parallel tabs or as an added layer). "Talking about the Tubes, outside of the U2".

Correct, I know of those kinds of cases too. But U2 ship censering has been going thru the roof overall since early 2022 (and I bet you can guess some of the main "sensitive topics")
@@iRelevant.47.system.boycott Over the last two years, I would say - I could see loads of comments getting deleted or muted and YT interfering with threads already in the summer of 2022. I think the Ukraine war and the fight against any dissent on that one has been a powerful driving factor

I spent several hours on RU-vid. I stop watching Main Street media. If RU-vid does not let us to hear and watch programs like yours, then people find other platforms. RU-vid made 8 BILLION $ on advertisement. That may change their behavior.
What would be great is to have some aggregator web service where we could find independent journalists and where all of the platforms they publish on would be listed.
What's needed is a plug-in that would let you seamlessly go from the video you're watching to a parallel discussion platforn that you could add as an extra layer, or set up in a tab net to the video tab - the discussion pages would be clearly linked to a specific YT video, but hosted independently of the T*be. Somebody needs to develop that..
@@alifm4098 I removed Haiphong and Medhurst (among others) from my subscription list ages ago, I got sick of their clickbaiting. I notice yt is going for targets that dont have a lot of friends, even though they may have a large following. If they went after someone like this channel Dialogue Works or Garland Nixon then you might see some action from users who follow GeoPol
Up till a few years ago, it was relatively easy to include links in a comment here, but that option has become auto-blocked. If there's anything that even looks like a weblink pointing beyond RU-vid, the comment is smothered and others can never see it. I noticed this when I tried to set up contact lines (e-mail etc) with some people I had met in youtube chats or discussions...around 2021, it became practically impossible. RU-vid wants to be a "walled garden" kind of site with no exchange lines to the internet beyond. The only exception to this is the owner of the channel, and Iäm sure there are restrictions even on what kind of links they can provide.

YT has been rolling out a h¤rr1bly cheap new layout (mostly for desktop/laptop I think) where the screen below the video is jampacked with an endless roll of big "suggested video ads" and the comments field is relegated to the far-right sidebar. Basically those two elements on the page swapped places. Now, I was shocked when I saw this dumb eyesore forced on me one morning a couple of months ago - I had never asked for it. I began peppering U2 with feedback demanding to have it turned back to the older layout. No reply, of course. Finally,, after two weeks, I found a video here on the platform that presented an easy and safe solution to undo this ghastly new layout by a simple, legit plugin and some edits within said plugin. Yay me! But when I tried to share the link to that video, or its title, at discussions with other people who had been as miffed as myself over the new layout, I found that U2 was deleting or hiding every comment I made about it, no matter how hard I tried to get around their filters. They were hellbent on keeping people trapped within the new scheme! Of course, the way you want RU-vid to look should be a customizable thing anyway, just like with e-mail platform layouts. But YT can't be bothered with listening to their hundreds of millions of users and asking for their opinion on the platform.
I also hope this channel continues to exist...In the land of supposedly free speech, this behavior by RU-vid and (most probably) the State Department is typical of the shameful behavior the US is capable of. Bye bye RU-vid, hello alternatives.
