Even as a Gwailo, with Cantonese as a (just barely, la!) second language, Anita Mui ranks as one of the best singers ever...her impact on popular culture, her philanthropy, the deep emotion she brings from the soul...she ranks right up there with the greats from the Western world...Jimmy Buffet and Toby Keith come to mind, having just recently lost both I loved Journey's original version, but Anita's might even surpass...so much strength, passion and emotion in each word, brings me to tears no matter how many times I listen to this...
I heard this song in Chinese radio growing up and knew about it before knowing who Journey is! I haven’t heard this song in decades, this song really brought me back!🥲
Better than Madonna yes, but better than Whitney Houston and Celine dion I don't think so, Anita is her own team, she has her own style and type of voice, we shouldn't compare so different singers
@@otkcalvin437 No, she was ahead of Madonna in every way. How could she be inspired by Madonna? Look into her concert in 87, she changed tens of costumes every night, while Madonna just had two or three images in Who's That Girl Tour. Furthermore, the dance move and vocal power have no comparison at all. It is that Madonna needs to learn from her.
You may be pleasantly surprised to learn - as I was - that Anita Mui has a legion of Gwailo fans in the west, even among those who don't speak Cantonese. I find that I can get into a discussion about HK music and while people may have never heard of Sammi Cheng or Aaron Kwok or ??, they HAVE heard of Anita Mui and love her music...pretty cool, actually.
asianmusic4westerner is a bit comical, Anita was a Canadian what moved to Hong Kong and sang in Cantonese dialect with a voice that is iconic. She should have never died from cervical cancer that is totally preventable. Yong girls die needlessly because their parent, save the children and remember that we lost one of the greatest talents of all time needlessly. Note My is Chinese and Anita Mui music is the kind of music she loves, if I was to describe her music I would say Music for all of us.
