Una particular formación en el Show del Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar 2008 tuvo la banda de rock norteamericana JOURNEY con el vocalista Arnel Pineda.
Efectivamente, el cantante filipino fue incorporado a la banda JOURNEY, siendo su primera presentación oficial con JOURNEY el 21 de febrero del 2008 en el Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar en Chile con una transmisión televisiva en conjunto para 80 países y en vivo por señales locales, de cable y el afamado canal A&E. El filipino Arnel Pineda derrochó energía y logró cautivar a todo el público con su voz muy parecida a la de Steve Perry y su gran presencia escénica, rejuveneciendo a la banda y dejando en segundo plano su carácter de absoluto novato. I have been a fan of Journey since the 1978 Infinity Album. I love their music. Yes, Arnel is not Steve Perry but he has done an awesome job carrying the torch for this band. I saw Steve with them in concert in 1981 and 1983 and I have seen Arnel in concert with them in 2016 and 2018. They have never disappointed me. Their songs make me feel good and I am a Journey fan - Period.

As you know (some reading this may not), singing is a big deal in the Philippines. Karaoke and other forms of singing are a big part of the culture there. Many, many good Filipino singers. It does not surprise me that Journey chose a Filipino as their lead singer.

Well said well said and you know some of the younger people out there can't appreciate how good Steven is and was!! They weren't around in the 80s couldn't really appreciate those times 💯.. I'll keep on listening to my CDs and my old albums of journey, I don't think he sounds like Steve Perry at all and you can't sing Steven Perry songs unless you're Steven Perry it just don't work!!!!@@dollijoh4629

Hubieron varios hitos importantes en este show de journey en el festival de viña del mar 1.- primera vez q se presentaba Journey con arnel Pineda como vocalista de la banda 2.- primeravez en la historia de journey q la banda tocaba en Sudamérica. Afemas de tocar en viña del mar ,la banda toca dos dias después en Santiago de chilr,junto a peter Frampton y earth wind& fire, como telonero,ante un estadio san carlos de Apoquindo, completamente agotado x 16.000 fans chilenos Dos años después,la banda regresa a chile,y estás vez hacen su debut en Argentina ,brasil .

Steve is the best vocalist of Journey period. No one can replace him BUT Arnel is like a thin line of air that keeps the band alive after Steve left. He has a big shoe to fill but he is doin his best and i really appreciate it as a Journey fan. And im very thankful that my fellow fan of Journey is showing their appreciation as well, not all but most.
