Steve made Journey to become the top ALL-AMERICAN BAND in the 80s. Sadly, he also caused Journey's fading away from that spot. Perry's last tour concert was in 1989 and attempted a come back in 1998, only to turn away again just before their scheduled concert tour. Why did Perry stop singing in concert tours since 1989, voice issues?? Instead of talking it out, Perry sent his lawyer to stop the band's effort to hire a replacement. If Perry had voice issues, he should have just graciously bowed out after sidelining the band for over a decade. The founders (Schone, Valory & Smith) i suppose got control of legal ownership, since Perry was a replacement singer. Must have been a hell of a legal fight that forever put a wedge. rest is history, the original founders hired Augeri, Soto & finally Pineda. Perry was awarded royalties which he still gets to date. It took Journey another decade to regain the spot they left in 1989. Yes, Perry fans are right, there are now two Journeys, the Classic Journey and the Contemporary Journey which has become the Multigenerational and Global band that it is now.
imo, this was the best line up ever and yes I have been a Journey fan from their first album, I am also a semi professional drummer, who sings and writes....these cats ROCK!! Too bad Deen can't stop hitting women.....shame really.
Arnel is great singer, but when Steve sings it, he is singing from emotion, you can tell he is telling a story from his head, when Steve sings, I believe him
Saw them in Atlanta in 2011. Schon was wayyyy too loud. You could barely hear AP. Great band great songs but need a new album now and Neil you are great but cut it down just a bit bro.
Hey, these are not sp songs,... These are JOURNEY songs. Sp was just part of the band and singing was his role. He maybe one of the composers but as a band, not his alone. But his presence in the band was only until he got pain when his time w/them ended after he fired Dunbar, Valory, S. Smith and finally, the manager, Herbie Herbert, who got him to join journey. So dont say that it's sp songs... It is Journey's songs.
