Arnel's voice is shot; he's risking the same thing that happened to Steve. Singing out of his natural range now; and voice cracking; he's going to develop nodules, then eventually lose his singing ability altogether. If the Journey 'tribute' band is to live on; time to find another singer that has the range to match Steve's original range. Sad to hear this for Arnel; he seems like a great guy and has hung around to keep the Journey tribute living on for many years now.
Their songs are made for singers who are in their 20's. Steve's voice was shot when he's in his 30's (look for Faithfully with steve perry in their 1991 performance at golden gate park - they even lowered the key). It's just a miracle that Arnel can still perform considering his age. Steve Augeri can't even last 4 years in the band and he's a decent singer before joining the band. Augeri's voice was shot also in 2002. That proves how difficult it is to sing journey's songs in original key.
@@troyguererro0898 absolutely agree! Steve was born / blessed with an incredible voice, the range of almost impossible; even in the regular versus throughout songs was crazy high! IMO, Steve's most effortless range was even before the Escape album, as you could start hearing a little more 'rasp' in his voice in the songs on the Escape album. Before that, pure golden super-tenor / altino!
