Of all the rock performances I've seen in my 65 years, and as a professional musician, I would say that this will always stand out as one of my top 10. This guy is not even from this world. Firstly, as I've played this song to others without them looking at the video, they all say that is Steve Perry at his finest. Suzanne is one of the hardest songs that Journey has ever performed. Secondly, this Beast is playing the drums at the same time. I mean come on... Deen, God bless you.
Deen is unbelievable and blows my mind every time I hear him play the drums and sing those Journey songs flawlessly!! Wish I could Play and sing like that lol I’d never put my sticks down and never shut up!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@PeachWNK Deen Castronovo has pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case and has been sentenced to probation and counseling. Court records show that Castronovo, 58, of Salem pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault, two counts of domestic violence menacing, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of coercion. Castronovo has been sentenced to four years of supervised probation with a requirement that he undergo counseling for drug abuse and for domestic violence offenders. If Castronovo breaks his probation, he faces a sentence of more than five years in prison. He is not a nice person, but he is an ok drummer. LMFAO.
@@shabozz8762 What did I say? Oh yeah. Second chances. His charges? All misdemeanors. All non contact. All under the influence of drugs. He’s sober now. As a sober man, before and after his arrest, he’s always been a kind person. Ask anyone who knows him. I’m not here to justify. I’m here to prevent people like you from committing libel. Go spread your sensationalist BS somewhere else. I hear TMZ is hiring. Now quit stalking me.
Deen is the ONLY one I don’t mind singing in place of Steve. His energy, love, and dedication of Journey’s music makes him a true heir to capturing their legacy.
As Keanu Reeves would say: "Whoah!" This is the first time I ever heard this song performed live since 1986. Deen did a phenomenal job singing and playing the drums at the same time. I wonder if they will perform this song again live now that Randy Jackson is back in the band.
this is an absolutely amazing performance..... cant understand why Journey dont throw this song in EVERY time...it was the best song on that album by a mile..... Deen smashed this out of the arena !!!
Neil T. Actually I loved the last song, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever... My wife and I closed out our wedding with that song... We're divorced now...😃 But we are STILL good friends and that song endures...
Raised on Radio is a great album. There are so many songs I wish they would play regularly from Raised on Radio, like Suzanne, Positive Touch, Happy to Give, Raised on Radio and WCTNGOF. Sadly they insist on playing the same songs every concert.
I agree with you, but it's probably because Deen is no longer in the band. Other than Perry in his prime, Deen is the only one who could pull this song off. Even Arnel would likely have a little difficulty singing this song now.
Neil T I agree. I have a feeling that with Randy back and additions of Narada and Jason Derklata - we can expect much more ROR mixed in. I could see Jason singing some of these like Deen.
Neal needs to do a Journey Through Time album. I want to hear Deen and Gregg sing together. Deen's range is almost as good as Steve Perry's and Gregg still sounds amazing.
Wow! I've been a Journey fan since the 70's ... loved the Escape, Frontiers, Raised on Radio era and Suzanne is one of my favs! That was awesome!! To play drums with that intensity and sing so close to the original ... wow! Thanks for sharing!
Perry's voice is a slightly lower bass tone but damn deencan hit those notes smoothly and it has to be so so challenging to sing and keep time on drums 🥁 as he does. He is pretty closely matched to perry's vocal on this tune. I noted only a difference, and then only slightly, in verses. Perry definitely has a lower bass range in that aspect. But that Deen can step into those shoes that comfortably and attempt to do song I hadn't heard since 86 and it sound so fresh was ballsy and he did not disappoint any journey fan that hunkered for that sound. Congratulations 🎊 👏 Stellar performance 👏 ✨️ 👌 ❤
Mindboggling how Deen can drum and sing at expert level simultaneously. Talent off the charts. Sounds enough like Steve Perry to delight Journey fans but has his own sound. Love his voice. Like the slightly speeded up tempo of this rendition.
I remember when Nuno Bettencourt once said why he called Neal Schon 'the bender'... HE'S RIGHT!!.. Neal BENDS all the last note of every solos he is doing since he was born!.. what a unique guitaist he was and still is.. 👍🏻
I can't believe I've never seen this clip before now. Google threw it at me. I was a girl who was at many concerts, behind stage with few. Man I always had a rocking good time. I've never seen Journey. If my memory serves me right, they came to Wichita, KS in maybe '99. For some reason I couldn't go, and I think I was told it wasn't Steve anyway. I caught the stand in on t.v. at some point. Awesome stand in. I loved this album too. ...Faithfully, Suzanne
Next to Steve. This guy is a powerhouse in his own right. And playing drums like a monster. Just found out at practice the other night our violin player went to school with him and still sees his brother l, who owns a flooring company in Salem Oregon. He said Dean would enter talent shows in him high school and his drumming would bring the house down
WOW,Deen sounds just like Steve. He doing a great job on the drums and the song too. But,my heart still belong to Steve Perry. Deen , u come in second place. Taking Steve place with Journey. Plus this my first time hearing Deen sing.
On the best rock drummers ever (listen to Maximum Security by Tony Macalpine for some fine examples of his outrageous chops) and wow what a singer! What an incredible talent
The guy in the right hand corner, behind the drum kit is called Jim Handley. He was Deen's drum tech and filled in for him on the kit occasionally. He is now the drummer for a Journey tribute band called Resurrection - A Journey Tribute based in Nashville. Give these guys a listen @ notjourney.com. You will be blown away, I promise.
Let's face it ...Steve Perry is the greatest singer ever. But Deen is up there with him at about 99.8. I would definitely have this guy as my frontman. He sounds the closest to Steve Perry as anyone I've ever heard....💯 Amazing!
Very rare instance here: Journey performing a ROR deep track, the drummer is singing it and it happens during the Augeri era. An interesting combination of circumstances. Nonetheless a terrific performance by the band and most notably Deen.
