I went there in 1983. There were no tours, no people, and it was free to enter. Mind you, I had to drive from Merida to see it. Still worth it!

It draws my attention that many foreigners do not find vegetarian food in Mexico. But the reality is that all of Mexico is vegetarian. But you have to know how to order or find vegetarian things. To begin with, there are natural jugs "Jugos naturales" and (Aguas de frutas) 50% water ang 50%fruits everywhere. At restaurants, order salads(ENSALADA), guacamoles, tamales, and vegetable tacosTACOS DE VERDURAS). Pumpkin flower(FLOR DE CALABAZA pico de gallo.atole of masa and rice(ARROZ). vegguie stew(Sopa de verduras) Never say vegetarian or vegan food. NEVER! The thing is, you have to order it in Spanish. There are tons of plant-based food items. All the tortillas are made of corn. Have a notebook with the dishes and the names of the legumes. The magic word is. "I do not eat meat".(NO COMO CARNE) Can you make me something (Me puede preparar algo sin carne? Lo que sea) without meat? Whatever! You will be amazed at the creativity of the cooks

Gracias for the tip for not saying Vegetarian/Vegan 👍🏻👍🏻 although I've been to Mexico a few times!😅 Learning something everyday!🤓

Wow, glad you went to Palengue. I just watched the History channel on the Engineering Empire of the Maya. Though pyramids started in Tikal but it’s in Palengue where more innovations and achievements are found. It’s where the great ruler Pakal’s tomb in sarcophagus was newly discovered inside the pyramid of inscriptions. The inscriptions on the walls inside his chamber tells of his life, rule and achievements. His successor son also built a great palace higher than Pakal’s pyramid with time Maya calendar tower and the aqueduct to manage the more than abundance of water flowing all over and below the city. The tower is like an observatory in the ancient times where their great scientists rely on nature as to the stars and the moon in relevance to mathematical system. Yes, Palengue is different than the ruins in Tulom and Chichen Itza but the Palengue ruins is more ancient since it followed after Tikal. I wish to visit Palengue next..thanks for the upload, appreciate the variety of your visits of interest not just beaches and water falls.

We were there in Palenque, in 1994 , it wasn't possible to go to Chiapas, for the same reason. So we couldn't see San Cristobal de las Casas. The conflict had just started , then. It was an amazing trip though every minute worth it. Fantastic videos you made . Thanks for showing them.

Watching Palenque brought me good memories i was there 1979 back then I was able to go inside the temple and always wonder how they put this tomb (Sarcophagus) inside the temple, I remember I was shocked when I see foreign naked in the waterfalls but I don't blame them it was very hot, Gracias amazing job Saludos San Francisco Bay Area

I did that same trip from San Cristobal around the same time. The scenery was amazing the whole way through. Those ruins are amazing. I got a guide for very little and well worth it to find out everything. The ruins are in a National Park - you pay the park fee then an entrance fee to the ruins area. I chose to go to the Cascada de Roberto Barrios. Again collectivo and only an hour away. I was very sick on that trip so moving slowly and not eating much. I'm glad I stayed for 4 days in Palenque. I prefer slow travel anyway.

I was mesmerized by all those plants as well. I own one of those as a houseplant and I couldn’t believe how big it was. it was the Croton plant, it had multiple leaves and very tall and different colours like red and green and yellow. Mines probably not even a foot tall

Palenque has a very nice feel, or it seems that way on your vlog. And it's so very green! It was also nice to see how the Mayan ruins were nestled into the green jungle. Very pretty.

The Palengue ruins were overgrown by trees after it’s decline and buried in the thick of the jungle until it was discovered and restored. If Egypt’s ruins were buried in sand, Mexico’s ruins were overgrown and buried in the jungle. One could imagine how many ancient villages are still buried in the jungle waiting to be stumbled upon

Chris and Carol, love the new adventures you are on. those plants are awesome and as are the temples. I have seen the temples and have wanted to see them as well. I love the great eats and the price was killer low cost. I loved the yellow flower dress for Carol and could not believe she didn't like it, I though it would look sexy on her and I bet you agree Chris as you pointed it out. It was a nice trip and a cool apartment and a very nice day. loved the video and love everything you both put together. We saved your video because no one is doing much but love how you are both going strong. My heart goes out to you both and Lanette sends her love and thanks you for such great escape videos. I've been enjoying your videos for a while. I missed out a little on your "Jumping the Philippines" year so I occasionally go back to them. Glad you made it to Palenque (I was sad you didn't make a video on your visit to Uxmal, but you can't have it all, I guess). Don't know where you're headed next but if you want quite the adventure off the beaten track, try Calakmul. Oh, yeah....when I first started watching your videos, I saw Carol (so beautiful, btw), and wondered, "Is she Brazilian?" Being married to a Brazilian and speaking Portuguese, I kinda KNEW, but didn't need to go check; Chris's slight accent when he speaks Spanish / Mexican place names gives it away (CAHZ-a rather than CAHSS-ah, etc). Keep up the good work, you two!

You definitely can get through those closed roads. They close them so no one can drive through them, but people still have to get back and forth, even people from the town. When the roads are closed like that you have to take a bus to where the road is cut off, and then walk across and then take another bus after you get past it. Sometimes its a 3 minute walk, sometimes its 15 minutes walking, just depends.
