10 years ago today, it was NYE and I was an Aussie on a Russian train from Moscow to Yekaterinburg. I met so many awesome people in Russia and did so many different things in my months long visit. I had never seen snow before either and was very unprepared for the cold. Still is my best holiday ever and I really want to visit again one day, along with a few extra family members.
I am from Pomor'e myself, thank you very much for the video, for 4 years I went to the south of Russia to Rostov-on-Don to get an education, I did not even imagine how much I would miss, such videos cause awe and pleasant sadness, very soon I will return to my land, thank you for this piece of something warm and native ❤️
So, there is a region in Russia called Pomorie, there's Bulgarian seaside town called Pomorie and there is also Polish region known as Pomorze. All three mean the same thing, literally "by the sea". Interesting.
pretty basic stuff. however when you hear an indian speak the same words as you speak in the baltics, words that mean the same thing in both super distant countries-its a bit more suprising. the older the language the further away you can find it
The wood construction in all the different buildings is absolutely beautiful. thanks for putting in random russian word translations. ive been learning russian for 2 years and never seen the word щеколда.
A well-described, properly organized production about this little known part of our world... I think Russia is a planet of its own, with so many hidden gems for alternative travel! Thanks for taking us with you and greetings from the koniak country!✌️🇬🇷
Reminds me of Northern Minnesota :) I love your videos. Cheers from the USA. The Russian people seem very warm and friendly, unlike what you hear about on the news from the USA and western Europe. I hope we can all be friends one day.
Arkhangelsk is said to be where British sailors/traders discovered pancakes and brought the recipe back. The beginning of the love affair with pancakes! The rest is history.
It also was the place where British-Russian trade relations have started in XVIth century. By accident, the merchants were sekking north path to India.

Russian cities look oddly cozy during the winter. It's nice getting to see a first-hand look at these random places around the country. I'm wondering what kind of drone you use.
If only more people on the planet realized others elsewhere are just doing what they do.. they just talk a different language. Good to see getting drunk on a train is an international activity !
These "real" people you saw in this video, most of them still support their army. I live in a country, where ~25% of the population is russian. Most of them seem nice, but when you start talking about politics, they change right away 100%. Average russian is dumb and patriotic, they support their country in every situation, even if it's wrong. They're ready to eat potato peels for their country.
Hey vaga❤ Whats the deal with eu travel for you? Id really love to see some videos from you about slavic eu countries, but as a Russian i understand its problematic for you. What if you had a working visa could you travel through eu?
Man, I was born in Arkhangelsk and still living:) True genuine gemstone of Russia❤ Free education and high standart medical care. Visited nearly 1/3 of the world still I've never had a thought of moving elsewhere
Arkhangelsk looks very inviting. I could do without Lenin's monstrous mug, but that's real history, so I get it. That chapel...beautiful, and the architecture of that house was just fascinating!
Your videos are quite entertaining! It's wild to me (Canadian ), seeing people sleeping like that in the train, I can't imagine trying to sleep like that -- granted if it means saving a fortune doing that vs an airplane, it makes sense. I can honestly say I would not expect fireworks in rural Russia, looks like you had a great time and you're not even hungover! hahah. Great content! edit; ugh, -9c is cold! but I give you extra points for thinking it isn't cold 😂
It doesn't make sense. A plane ticket costs about the same, if not cheaper. Maybe there're some luggage considerations, i'm not sure about that. However, some places cannot be reached by plane.
i've never seen a person who doesn t fall sleep on the night train. The way it moves (like a cuddle) and this sound of railway wheels... if you need to wake up during the night you ll see the whole train sleep like babies
It feel like I'm playing the typical Call of duty game with my eyes. Keep it up bro, keep makin the exploration of Russian peninsula. I have became such fan with the History & Present of Russia through your videos
I'm addicted to documentaries about freezing cold places lately. Wondering why this place seems ultra wealthy and populated compared some of the other Northern cities on this channel (that are all dilapidated and abandoned)...
I hope Russia maintains it's values and culture forever. It's one of the last normal and civilized cultures that remains without being brainwashed by western poison and media. America is trying to destroy you just like they did under Yeltsin. Stand strong Russia!
He probably won't be watching, but greetings to the man who visited Greece and bought property! He was so kind with you! I am greek and i want to live in Russia, although i certainly can't afford to buy property 😅 The nature is incredible, and so are the people! How crafty they have to be to survive the harsh winter. The white sea! Also, the wooden church; unbelievable how old it is and how tall for its' age! I cherish these videos. It's incredible to see, and i am looking forward to visiting as many of these places as i can. Also, thank you for putting subtitles on the screen where needed! It helps me as i'm learning russian. Stay safe)
Thanks for showing parts of Russia like this. I have been fascinated by Russia, how things look, the history behind these places and regions and just how different things are for many years now. It's hard to think of buildings here being over 400 years old when my country (Australia) only properly started real development a little over 220 years ago. I would love to visit places you have shown on your channel in Russia, but I will have to wait to see what the future holds.
This region has very unexpected historical connection to Australia. This land is so far from everything happening, it's probably never been touched by war until Russian Civil war broke out. And intervening in this region was British brigade with Australian unit in it. So Australians were part of probably the only force that ever invaded these lands. (Just a historical anecdote from over a century ago)
As an American, seeing you hitchhike scares me! But you always find lovely people who want to show you their village and tell you the history. It's so nice to see an area with buildings so old. Thank you for sharing your adventures!
I have been several times to both the USA and Russia. And let me tell you that I allways felt safer on russian soil. I speak both russian and eanglis. Im from argentina. My mother lenguage is spanish
13:26 when you said "absolutely" it took me by surprise as it sounded like perfect English. Was that a slip between languages or do Russians really say absolutely? Great video as always, come visit me in DPRK!
The reason is people simply don't want to deal with the Russian government, oligarchs or organized crime in the area. Russia is very dangerous and much poorer than western Europe. No one denies the beauty nor the risks.
@@ThunderTheBlackShadowKitty I know people are starving like a third world country and peoples rights being violated. But if i went as an American would it be dangerous for me to go there or in Russia in general?
*AN important correction:* There were over 3000 active churches by the end of the USSR. The rest were abandoned by the church because the USSR was a secular state and, hence, it has cancelled the tax exempt status for religious organisations. On its on, the Church could not upkeep most of its buildings, not enough people have visited them and paid the 1/10 share of income to support it, so they were abandoned. Without this context the situation looks distorted.
Brilliant video, I love the architecture of the wooden churches and it’s great to hear that there was various people/groups involved in the upkeep and restoration process. Thank you for sharing this excellent video and for all the great content you’ve shared thus far. Wishing you a very Happy New Year and safe travels
A great insight to northern Russia, but I could never live in those cities nor those villages, a 5000 to 10,000 population with all the ammenities is more acceptible to me. I have no problem living a wooden house as my 42,000 population has only 2 high rise apartment buildings, the rest are single dwelling wooden and sometimes brick in Timmins Ontario Canada. It's so different to what I know and where I grew-up and still living at, we are a mining (gold) and base metal area, and the logging area too!
Russia is so interesting looking! Thanks for yet again showing us a pocket of your country that many of us have never heard of before! I'd love to visit someday, but not in winter...-13F is cold!
Finally, you have a girl friend, yahaaaa, don't get her on top of a train, any news about Arther??? Is he out??, marry Christmas and happy new year, from Saudi Arabia with love.
33:25 You could see something similar in some czech cities. Namely Liberec and shoping centre "Forum". I always found it peculiar and somewhat strange looking. Then again I suppose its better than to just demolish the old "historical" house standing there (especially if its in a good condition).
I like your videos better than bald and bankrupt. You give better view of every town and show things that interest people that are planning to visit those places.👍🏻
You seem to be decent fellow, hope we can meet one day in better times. Really enjoy your films, really like your style of traveling :) good luck, and happy new year!
