I just saw this movie for the second time. Again I was moved to tears. I read that the movie was panned by the critics, but to me it brought the tragedy of that infamous day to life. I don't see how anyone could watch it and not be honestly moved and come away with real appreciation for the "the Greatest Generation" and sadness of war.
I think there were two issues. The biggest issue was probably the marketing, which gave the impression it was an all-out action movie and nothing else. I think the other issue is that the love story was just too long. It's a 3-hour long movie and the love story is probably most of it. If it had been 30 minutes shorter and cut down on the length of the love story aspects, I think it would have been much more well received. That said, I think the love story, though a bit too dramatic with the love triangle soap opera stuff, it did do a really good job of giving the characters a lot of weight and depth which made everything feel more real. There probably would have been a more entertaining way to do that, but it definitely achieved its purpose of making the movie feel heavy and real. I'd give it a 9/10 with one point off for the love story being too dramatic and too long.
Pearl Harbor is a love story with the attack on Pearl as the back drop. The screenplay is awful. But the actors really did great performances with the terrible script. I loved the movie.
I don't understand how the movie had such terrible reviews. Ever since I was a kid, I considered this movie a work of art. I guess most people were against the fact that it was a romantic ww2 film.
@@NiPeMiRecenziiFilme *The Hurt Locker* was also historically inaccurate, yet that surely didn't stop critics and audiences from enjoying that film, even if it has a few haters. So why is the historical inaccuracy of *Pearl Harbor* such a big fucking deal?
I definitely think them romanticizing it and turning it into a romance and focusing so much on the romance is what a lot people weren’t happy about or didn’t like cause it was no romance
Actual veterans and survivors walked out of the movie because it was so inaccurate and disrespectful. For example, why have Ben and Josh's characters do what actual heroes did? That's a direct slap in the face to actual heroes. Ben: "everything that happened to my character actually happened to someone" yeah, so show that! Also it was an obvious attempt to cash in after the success of Titanic a few years earlier.
Was at Pearl for a week in 03/2019. Got a chance to meet Everett Hyland, a survivor. Very emotional vacation. Couldn't even enjoy the rest of my vacation cuz of my bittersweet experience. Outside the beautiful beach resorts, folks are homeless. Literally sleeping on the streets of Hawaii. Completely heart breaking.
Going in to see this movie at the cinema in 2001, I had seen Saving Private Ryan 3 years prior. The opening 20 minutes of that changed the way war movies and movies in general were made. But Pearl Harbor's recreation of the attack lasting almost an hour of screen time that doesn't let up is gut wrenching, thrilling and mesmerizing. It was an awesome viewing experience on the big screen. I try to forget about the sappy love story and just enjoy the action.
I know history buffs scoffed at the movie, but Bay did a good job trying to tell a captivating story without dragging people down is specific details. He generalized a lot of the character’s positions so we could follow just a handful of characters instead of too many. I enjoyed the movie, and still do.
Who cares if everyone hates this movie I though it’s a great movie and it still is and yeah it maybe not as historicity accurate to the original event in history but I really enjoy this movie and if you think I’m a moron too then up yours!
@@helvetikum How about you just shut up you freaking movie critic stop telling people to not enjoying this movie I know this movie is not really historically accurate but still some people like it this movie regardless like I am so stop running people’s mode for enjoying this movie!
2021 and I still LOVE this movie... not just the story but the attention to detail when it comes to the actual battle. I was raised by grand parents who served during ww2 and it was something that i was very aware of from childhood.
I’ve been watching this since I first saw it in 2002. I was 12 years old. This movie helped lead me to join the United States Navy, where I served 4 years as a Boatswains mate. 20 years later, and it’s still my all time favorite movie.
this movie is what got me interested in ww2 from the P-40 to the A6m2 type 22s the B5N2s the D3A-1 val dive bombers and the B25 Mitchell bombers that took off from a carrier which would of been hard to do
My sisters ex-boyfriend played a part in the movie,he was one of the guys carrying fuel and ammo to the bombers,he was actually serving on the enterprise while they were making the movie,so he got to be in it
I REALLY enjoyed watching this.. I love this movie.. I always wonder how in the world they did this.... thank you for sharing this...~ it's awesome~... The graphics in this movie I always thought was magnificent, but now I know how they did it.. and it makes it even more spectacular TY :)
From what I'm seeing with the interview of Michael Bay is that he really did try to make a good story. Seeing the movie, I said it's not bad. It's fairly decent.
I know this movie is riddled with historical inaccuracies, but I can get passed that, and the love story doesn't feel as forced and Anakin and Padme from the Star Wars prequels. This is clearly not the Michael Bay we see now. He clearly did try. Now a days, his movies are ALL explosions. I think him changing certain things was for entertainment purposes. It's jarring, but I can look passed it. It's a movie, not a documentary.
I think the love story was adorable it’s a movie and we all love a great story not just facts and stuff and this was made back in 2001 the tech wasn’t that great so can we chill with critiquing this was an AMAZING movie
I LOVED THE FILM... BUT I HAVE TO SAY, I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH EVERYTHING THE PRODUCERS AND DIRECTORS TO THE CAST and how they spent countless hours talking, taking notes, meeting with the Government BEFORE filming a single minute. You guys could not of been more right.. This story had to be done 110% correct from start to finish, and how extremely important it was to the BRAVE men that were there on that nightmare of a day... I got emotional even just watching this and the development of what could very well be a front row seat to one of the most horrible days in Naval history... GREAT JOB!!!!! And thank you all that gave their lives so the rest of us could be free... THANK YOU ACTIVE AND PAST MILITARY PERSONEL FOR YOURE SERVICE.
This movie is..omg...i always laughed at people crying at movies and i was like "Yo wtf you are crying for something fake" and then i cried so much when Danny died...i felt like it was real..i'll never laugh again at those people :/ This movie gives me power at my hard times for real!
I dont know why this film has got the low score. In my opinion, this is my favorite war movie for all time. Before this video I cant believe that these bomb sences can be real like that.
Indeed I absolutely love this movie and yes I know there are people who really hated the movies but to me I don’t care what everyone says I enjoy it regardless!
I was in high school when my history teacher showed us this movie. When it got to the scenes where the ship was going down and all those men were terrified and couldn’t swim. I swear there wasn’t a single dry eye in that class room.
when michael filmed the uss texas to play different roles of battleships I thought the battleship texas film set was fake but years later she was real and the last battleship to be remained
I wasn’t a fan of the romantic love triangle aspect of this movie but the acting, action scenes, and capturing war in action was so well done just fantastic, I was wowed by the action sequences, say what you want about bay but he does practical action/effects really well and it made this movie that much more better
The hospital scenes tho... especially the scene where a bunch of people were desperately running to the hospital. They were all covered with black stuff (something from the fire, I forgot what it’s called). It was like a zombie invasion. This was such a great but sad movie.
All the brave men and woman and Veterans who were there that day. They are all heroes. And the men on the AZ was horrible they will never be forgotten, and that day will never be either. I have the movie, great. And Pearl Harbor comes to life of what happened to these people. But America Came is strong and got the Japanese for what they did to us. They are all Heroes.
Where are the Flying P-40s from and which models and where is the sound from the P-40s is it real or from another aircraft but for me it is the aircraft
this is the first war movie i ever saw and my interest for ww2 of any country at my parents house they have a news paper of that horrible day in a zip lock bag in a dining hutch along with 2 p40 full metal models on either side and zeros but knowing me i lost them and hoping to find a full metal model of each plane so i can replace them
Not many like the movie at all, i think its ok good, seen better, but not bad, once it was my favorit film, then came the imitasion game, aother great war movie. oh love all making and the behinde the scenes stuff.
