"Terminator is a movie that people see over and over, so it works like that". Cameron is 100% correct. I've seen the film over and over because it's both a timeless classic and a masterpiece in cinema.
I agree. Just watched both of these with a friend who happened to "miss out" on these gems growing up. I had the feels all over again. Shows how great films can hold the test of time.
I also just rewatched T1 & T2 the other day and they're still my favourite movies of all time. But my girlfriend that watched it with me. It was her first time seeing both of the movies. And I had not revealed anything to her plot-wise about the movies. She isn't a big movie watcher and she hadn't heard the Terminator movies in the past. The only thing that she knew was that the first two were my favourite movies. And boy let me tell you, she was TOTALLY blown away by the films! At first, she was scared and disturbed by T-800 in the first film. But after seeing the T-800 transformed into the protector of John Conor, she was absolutely speechless! It was a real joy for me to watch her reactions on the first viewing of these amazing films. It was a good Sunday hehe.
I wore down my VHS copy during the summer of 1990, as a 12 year-old. Damn, a great summer, full of chills. Still the best movie in the Terminator franchise.
I saw Terminator on opening night in 1984...not knowing what to expect. Back then you didnt go see a movie because Arnold was in it. But it looked like a decent choice. I actually remember feeling out of breath while watching it. I kept thinking "how come this guy wont die!?" Instant classic.
Total Bullshit (pun intended). He had been in Pumping Iron and, more importantly, Conan The Barbarian - which was AWESOME at the time (though the second one wasn't) - and so we most definitely went and saw movies because he was in them. Just because YOU were behind the times, it doesn't mean you can speak for everyone else...
The first Termimator is one of the most incredible movies ever created. It is a dark, dystopian, film-noir love story. When I first watched it as a kid in the 90s, I couldn't believe that a movie could be so dense and frightening. Brad Fiedel's soundtrack gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it, feels almost like the termimator is near. This film is a piece of art, and while I can certainly understand why people love T2 so much (I do as well), the first one will always suck me in to its world a lot more.
It's terrific, and I like Reese's flashback scenes in particular. My only issue is that we don't much see how Reese reacts to the 80s pre-apocalypse world. Growing up in a hellish world, it seemed he would have been more emotional about the differences, maybe even tempted to just stick around when he first goes to 1984. Nevertheless it's a nit-picky thing and probably not something they'd have the screen time for.
@@jeffk1722 Jeff K, I would have liked a bit of dialogue with Reese and Sarah comparing the past to the future as well. It wouldn't even have to be lengthy though. But what's done is already done.
@@jeffk1722 there's a deleted scene where Kyle flips out about being in the 1984 world, look it up. The scene is a little odd but still good in concept
I actually think movies with simple premises are what fits the media best. So many movies try to adapt books instead of making scripts that are specifically written for the movies. One of the best such movies I've seen in recent years, is Dredd.
One of the very best movies of the 80's. But then - back then - they knew how to make a strong movie, without all the politics and agendas that are in movies these days.
@@MetalGamer666 u should watch Upgrade, Nightcrawler, SinCity, No country for old men, I saw the Devil etc. these are also simple premises but the execution is awesome.
I watched T1 as a kid and it was one of the most incredible movies I had seen. And, to this day T1 & T2 are two of the best movies I’ve seen. Never gets old!
Watching these two talk about the Terminator is giving me goosebumps. These are two artists talking about a thing they made together, and you can see the love they had for the project. This is great stuff.
Mario Cassar was always my hero. Right up there with Silver and Spielberg. I still forgive him for Cutthroat Island because he helped make so many greats like Terminator and Basic Instinct
Schwarzenegger was definitely born to play this character. The fact that he's just friggin huge and says hardly anything in the film just scares the hell outta you. This Ladies and Gentlemen is what I call Movie Magic.
The alternative ending of t2 is the official ending of the series. No gyfiness, no sam Worthington, no gi Courtney, no evil or dead john Conor, Nothing!
I dunno I find it a lil rough around the edges. It's very very good. But budget problems and some bits of music do date it considerably. That said it remains a Masterpiece. Personally I think T2 is the best thing Cameron has done. He essentially successfully switched genres on a franchise, won over the fans, made a remake, pushed the boundaries of filmmaking technology (almost all he did afterwards) and made one of the greatest action films of all time, all in one go. The performances were improved, Cameron's directing improved, the music improved. It was perfect.
I have such fond memories of seeing the film the first time - I was by myself and afterwards went running back to school (I was in college) and grabbing friends saying "you have to see this movie NOW!!!" and going back and seeing it again! Still an all time fave 35 years later!!!
Those type of movies where you see it and immediately drag everyone you know back with you the 2nd time are truly great times! Hope they enjoyed it as much as you did..
@@tedlogan5628 Oh for sure!!! it's on the list of movies I can always watch. The final scene in the factory still creeps me out, with the unrelenting hand reaching for Sarah
Cameron did a lot of concept art for his movies. Including T2, Aliens and many more. For example both the Alien Queen and the Dropship in Aliens, was based on concept drawings of his.
I'm stunned how great this video is. Cameron absolutely killing it in describing this incredible film he created side by side with Arnold. If you ever planned or wanted to do something with film's Cameron is one of the many to study.
Movie magic created by true talent that seems to be missing these days. Cameron has edged his way to the top director for me along with Lucas, Spielberg, and Scott.... Because he executes his vision with precision while keeping the story simple, allowing it to shine.
So they only make good casting choices in 1984? Here's a choice that was just as good: Heath Ledger as the Joker. After that point they gave up on casting movies.
It's clear why they are both such good friends even to this day. Arnold helped James just as much as James helped Arnold and they both believed in one another right at the very beginning of their respective careers. As you get older, you never forget people in life like that.
If an actor is willing to get dressed by himself walk onto a public street punch a car window and risk getting arrested that is a person you keep for life.
@@InvadersMustDie1918 yup just a random Filmmaker with two 2billion$ movies. not to mention he's coming back with Avatar 2 somewhere around in 2020s. other than that, he's yet to make a single bad movie as a director.
@@M.S.Fitness he did. e's what James Cameron initially envisioned a terminator to look like..a "blend into the crowd" guy, just as he spoke of in this interview. it took a few viewings for me to accept/like/respect Robert's performance..bc following Arnold, lol..but he did a great job. mimicking how a predator looks at prey, the angle he holds his head and eyes, rly brilliant.
Ah! The Carolco home video theme is my favorite, gives me goosebumps even to this day! brings back so many memories when I went to see T2 at the theater :)
Look I was way under my age watching T1 and Predator! Thanks to my Father! But watching T2 In 1991 I was15... was the best Cinema Experience in my Life!
i saw it at the drive-in with my parents when i was 6, lol. But I fell asleep very quickly in the car, then woke up while he was using the minigun in Cyberdyne, then fell asleep again. Thats all I remember. Looking back, my parents were not going to let some little kids spoil T2, and I cant blame them!
I saw the first one on cable as well as the second...in 91 I was 17, so pretty much in the same boat. I remember my jaw dropping seeing the visual effects of T2 *thumbs up*
cant believe there is a three hour making of film about shitty alien vs predator and only this 20 min retrospective and a few 10 min semi-promo, behind the scene bits from back in the 80's about this legendary film...
pure horror? It has seem pretty intense emotional moments (the future flashback, the scene by the window, reese's death, the final scene before the credits). Terminator to me is a sci-fi drama.
its kinda sad that arnold talk most of the time about himself as terminator and james cameron. Linda hamilton and michael biehn deserve much more respect imho. they did a insane job.
@@penoyer79 He was sent from the future to make everyone else famous. He tried to save us from a dystopian future where every single movie had bland actors.
@Skippy the Alien I mean Biehn had leading roles in Terminator, Aliens, Abyss, Tombstone... huge blockbusters between like 83 and 93 ... and still most movie goers doesn't know who he was lol. it was always "oh, it's THAT guy from..."
This was re-released in my local cinema the week before Terminator Genisys came out. I was working the next day and the screening wouldn't finish until 11pm but I thought sod it, I'll watch this on the big screen. I even traded stories with my fellow viewers of what our first experience of the film was
Whenever the time comes for Arnie to move on from this world, it'll be up to us to keep the magic and power that all his movies created to inspire the future generations. Thank you so much Arnold for playing such iconic characters and working so hard for our entertainment. You are the greatest thing to come to this world.
Totally agreed, but mostly as the best action movie ever made. I love Terminator one too but it just pales in comparison to T2. its still great, just not as great as T2. T2 also has the better villain, better action, better direction, better character interactions, better acting and is just a better movie. if i ever have to make a top 5 action movie list, it'll be like this. 1. T2 2. Inception 3. The Matrix 4. Terminator 5. The Raid or John Wick series.
It's still pretty heavy now but at this point, even though he has been in the United States for over fifty years, it's not something that's likely to change. I think that if he came to America when he was a child and not an adult in his twenties, he would have lost the accent by now but the accent is an accepted part of who Arnold is as an actor by now, I even think it helped with his success as an actor, that may sound a little strange to say but what I mean by that is that it made him different and stand out from other actors. Even James Cameron said that the famous ''I'll be back'' line from Terminator is such a memorable line because of HOW Arnold says it. If someone else said it, it doesn't have the same impact and resonance. But because of Arnold's accent, it helped make the line the iconic and memorable line it is today.
James Cameron really is an incredible film maker. He was able to make the best situation out of any scene and makes everything so dramatic and effective. Many of his other films he has made, he brings everyone out to a real place that is very similar to scenes in the movies and makes them live there for a while. He said it helps everyone get into character better by experiencing the real thing
Thank you, James Cameron, for these great movies: "T 1 & 2", "Aliens", "True Lies" & "Titanic". "Avatar" is nothing for me. Arnold & James were such a great team! "T 1 & 2" are movies from another world. Idea, script, effects, cast, look, cut, sound, score - extremely good cinema!
Cameron: "...a movie people will see over and over..." Lmao. you have no idea. I've basically lost count how many times I've seen The Terminator. Too many to count -- and I'm not a millenial. In fact I've watched it like twice this week alone.
9:47 when they were talking about the acid and the face and the eyes etc, did anyone else think of Rainier Wolfcastle in The Simpsons shouting "my eyes! the goggles do nothing!"?
Awesome video, thanks for putting this out there. God damn Terminator 1 and 2 were such amazing movies, one gets lost in them and forgets that they are watching a movie. Soundtrack is so powerful too that upon hearing it all the emotions associated with it come rushing back.
Maybe stop puking this horseshit into every video that features a good female character from some older time. There are good female characters today, but you need to stop looking at shitty modern Hollywood if you want to see them. Actually, that goes for almost anything in terms of film/television.
LOL, I think you mean Terminator 2, she's rescued like fifty times in Terminator and barely survives by turning on a crusher. Hey, turns out the two characters are pretty similar.
This movie is the only movie, I've trielessly watched over hundreds of times since my childhood. every line, every scene is a classic and it never gets old.
Thanks to Jimmy Cameron, when I got to see this film I think when I was 9, I fucking shit myself, and to this day is THE only film that has ever scared me, lol I was so scared I wouldn't goto bed on my own that night for the fear of one of these bastards waiting for me at the top of the stairs.... then as I learned about lucid dreaming I would call in a terminator to fight my nightmares with me, so thanks for the memories... from the highlands of Scotland.
in T1 she was nice and pretty . Now she looks like shit to be honest she hasnt aged well at all , lines and wrinkes all over her face , she's a smoker and guess thats white people aging for you
Sometimes I wonder, was it James that made Arnold or Arnold that made James... But I already knew Arnold movies before Terminator and James Cameron movies are mostly always great... they had both a lucky shot! Cameron made a great movie and could not been as great without Arnold!
James Cameron was right about Terminator it a movie you can see over and over again T1 and T2 were I seen millions of time and still my favorite movies to today I memorize the movies back and forth and never gets old
I still hope that Arnold and James Cameron will team up to do another Terminator together when Cameron gets the Terminator licensens back in 2018/19 which ever year it is.
RMJ1984 That won't happen. It the rights had never left Cameron there would have only been two films. He has been asked basically for every terminator film after to be involved in. Arnold basically begged him to direct 3 but said no. he told his story he wanted to tell.
After watching Avatar which when you get past the CGI is a very average movie I'm not sure it's a really bad thing Cameron isn't doing another Terminator.
