Of the interview, our founder and host, Sue Rocco, says: "Listen in as I sit down with Joya to talk about her dream to be a TV Anchor from the age of 4, having to find a way to finance her education at Bucknell, her discovery that many Indian women were inspired by watching her on TV, and her best practices for successful public speaking."
Joya is a first-generation Indian born to immigrant parents from Calcutta and Myanmar. Since the age of 11, she remembers wanting to be a journalist.
For the last 15 years, Joya has been reporting for Bloomberg TV, CNN and ABC. She is currently a business anchor with NY1 News and CNN. In November 2009, she also began directing and producing social justice documentaries. First Sight tackles the issue of curable blindness in children in India and is her first feature-length film. www.firstsightthefilm.com
She is currently principal and co-founder of Avenue Media, (www.avenue-media.com) based in New York City. She and partner Greta Knutzen are fusing old school journalism and storytelling with new school media tools and metrics to help clients tell their story. Avenue Media is currently engaged by the Rockefeller Foundation to produce a series of mini-documentaries as the organization celebrates its centennial.
