Former prison seamstress Joyce Mitchell will be sentenced later this month for her role in the prison break of convicted killers David Sweat and Richard Matt. In an exclusive jailhouse interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer, she says that Matt gave her pills to drug her husband Lyle, referred to as “the glitch” in the plan by Sweat and Matt, and that Matt planned to kill Lyle when he was passed out. Instead, she says, she flushed the pills down the toilet.

Liar. She went as far as to go shopping for new clothes including swimwear for Mexico. She wasn’t just playing along. How can a prisoner have complete control over you. She could have stopped anything from happening from the moment she was told of the escape plan. What would they have been able to do to her from isolation?

I completly agree with you, im only 16 years old and I want to train to become an officer and I think that her act was very unprofectional and there is always a way out and she could've either quit or report to whoever is in charge that these two cons are trying to escape, this story just reminds me of the tv show Prison Break, its exactly like it, its insane 😂

Exactly! Officers are there by choice, prisoners are there by force. She didnt need to give them info, continue with anything, and she could've done something as easy as tell those above her and wear a chip to have them convicted for trying to escape. Either she wanted it to work out or she just wasn't smart enough to figure out the obvious, I guess. I want to be sympathetic but come on girl.

To this day I hope my town never has to go through this again. Being from Dannemora and going to the school next to the prison was awful we were all so terrified. Police everywhere and not being able to stay home alone. She deserves way more than she got.

At any point, she could have gone to proper prison authorities and said, “These men are threatening me and I am afraid for my life and my family’s life. Dangerous territory has been entered”. Gone to the highest powers. Rung the church-bells. She didn’t. She was proved to be a moral derelict, a willing accomplice, and was judged/sentenced accordingly.

How did she not get a felony murder charge? If somebody dies in the commission of a crime the accomplices get charged with felony murder right? If me and a buddy break into some guy's house and that guy shoots and kills my buddy I get charged with murder! This lady committed a crime (breaking out of prison) with two accomplices, one of which ended up dead so how is this not a felony murder case?

Hankerson Photography & Video why did Sweat decide to start walking through a field in broad daylight when he was finally caught? Seemed like he could have easily waited for night. Or at least stayed in the woods. That part wasn’t clear. Was it because he could see Canada and just lost his sense of reason and tried to walk directly there ASAP even if it meant being in the open.
