Came here from Stevie Knights reaction (Scru's best friend, I know) and I gotta say, I am definitely not on either side. I agree that what Joyner came up with, though I was a few years late, were some perspective-changing master-class art pieces. Songs that showed what an intellect the man possesses, and how that can be translated to the pen. I've always heard 'old' joyner compared to eminem, for some reason, and, to be honest, when joyner got in his bag he made movies on a level I don't think most rappers in the game have or could achieve. However, yes. The current joyner, since he's on my playlist already, and I'm the type of person that only listened to a few artists I genuinely like, his hit-making ability carries a whole new chapter. He's making banger music, which is a separate thing from his Ross Capicchionis, or Frozens, or Happy Birthdays, which are, as Scru said, songs that kind of needs joyner's visuals to really hit. Now, I listen to those as well, on occasion, sure. But since I started playing CD's for my car, for instance, I need something else. And the 'new' joyner provides. Though, of course, if you actually look at the picture, joyner hasn't really changed. He's always had a broad range of capabilities and has been able to make really, really good songs. I think the biggest difference, and what people have a problem with now, is that, while his songs have become better (his beats are better picked, he has better hooks, and collabs with other amazing song makers), he hasn't had that flash of a genius that the old, dare I say 'hungry' joyner had. Which I'm sure we'll get sooner or later, considering the track record. It's just been a while since the more emotional stuff, I guess. 508-507 2209 is still my favourite joyner tape, but the only album I'm keeping my eye out for this year is (Not now, I'm Busy), so
