Great demo, I'm liking the Meteor very much, the Zombie sounds a bit too scooped to me. I just checked the price in Thomann and it's ridiculous to see it goes for less than a distortion pedal indeed, I'm going to snatch myself one. Given that the "OR" is in bold face on the Meteor logo, I'm presuming it's supposed to be based on an Orange, just like the Zombie has "MB" in bold for "Mesa Boogie".
@@southpawlibranine3511 yeah I knew the zombie was the boogie, and just figured the meteor was some kind of British by the sound of it. Makes sense that it's orange.
@MetalHeadProductions Bought the Zombie II when it came out because I'll never be able to afford a real Mesa. Definitely heavy enough for home studio jams, my only gripe is the lack of 3 band eq
@reddoo8936 definitely, I would recommend for any touring musician that wants reliable and affordable. Recently put my Dunn fx death knob in the fx loop and it's low end city. I love it
I got a Meteor to push with a knock off precision drive and a Jackman to push with an Eyemaster. I also have a Behringer FBQ800 in the loop of both amps (one unit, stereo) and 2 Guitar Fetish Twin Clean Drive power tube emulator pedals, one in the loop of each amp. Both power amp pedals are in the EL34 mode. I have an ABY pedal so it's a stereo rig. Jackman hits an 80's vintage Celestion G12H-100 8 ohm I transplanted into a closed back 1x12, and the Meteor runs into a Seismic Audio Quake12 8 ohm in an open back enclosure from Seismic Audio. Rig sounds putrid. Orange voiced amp is super clear and mid forward and articulate, complete with low mid snarl endemic to the "Orange Sound," the JCM800 with chainsaw sounds all bass heavy and fucked up. Pair them together, and it's beautiful.
I have an Atomic and it sounds like an AC30 to me. I run it into a powered speaker and use it at gigs. My Dad just gave me a Zombie 2 and my Nephew the BlueJay. They all sound like they're supposed to.
I have the meteror playing mostly classic rock. I agree it has classic british tones and is awesome for the money. It is my favorite amp and i plan on getting the Joyo Tweedy soon.
Great demo, thank you. Question for you - since this is a solid state power amp, won’t the signal running into the captor x be too weak? Isn’t the captor x supposed to be picking up the load from a tube power amp? I’m guessing it works with the solid state since you used it, but I tried running a Friedman ir-x into a captor and couldn’t hear it, which I assumed was because it was hitting the captor with a solid state signal.
captorX is meant to take a load from an amp, doesn't have to be a tube amp, and solid state isn't going to be super weak. These do just fine. The Friedman ir-x is just a preamp, it doesn't have a power amp to amplify the signal, so sending that into the captorX wouldn't work.

@@chrisdrums1973 yes, I do, the ENGLXXL cab is great, as is of course the mesa OS recto cab, there is a cab that I can't remember the name of but it has the Zakk wylde EV speakers in it and that cab sounds super good.
@@bavariandave5627 oh, haha, yeah, so we were using it wrong. I think you'll find mud in terms of tone is typically low end and low mid even. Personally I like a more mid forward sound.
Likewise, Products like this would have been great when I started playing, like you I wasted a ton of money trying to find the right tones and sounds, more importantly affordably.
I was under the impression that the Meteor was supposed to be Orange flavoured (The JaCkMan being the Marshall clone). Whatever the case is, the Meteor is my favorite sounding one. The zoMBie is just too mid scooped for me. I'm quite tempted to unlimited my wallet for one of these.
I've got both of these, and the Meteor II wins. The Zombie II just doesn't sound right. It has too much bass tone. I want to like it, but I'm probably going to be sending it back. I've got about 25 days left.
Have you noticed the zombie cant really get a crunch sound? or is that just the videos I watched The meteor seems to be better at that But I didnt have the chance to play them yet and I'm trying to decide which one to pick
Well it would need an IR loader and that would make it more expensive. There are load boxes with IR loaders in them that would make this a viable gigging option direct into a PA.
@@HereAfterNow you'd still need an IR for the amp to sound right and I'm sure it's need some kind of load box for the power to go since it won't be connected to a speaker cab.
First of all, I find this video surprising! I was thinking about ordering a Zombie a while back but I have to say that... The Meteor pretty much crushed the Zombie, at least in this video. I wish the Meteor had a little bit better control of the presence, which the the Zombie did, but I'm surprised at how the Zombie kinda (or totally) sounded like a can of bees... Probably better off getting Meteor and and the newer, mini Metal Muff. There is a bias to favor averages of two amps, so I hate to say this, but a mix of both amps would probably sound pretty good, with the mix heavily tilted towards the Meteor. On the positive side, the Zombie did have some cool aggression. Also, we all use gear a little differently and have different chains, which could give yield different results, but I'd be inclined to go Meteor first, if I could only pick one. If for some reason it sounded really muddy with my cab, I'd look at the Zombie or get another cab... But good cabs cost more and cost more to ship, unless you live in a really good area for local, second hand gear. I'd be interested in hearing how these compare to something like the Stealth 50.
I got over that in the video. Guitar into an SD1 to boost the amps for the in mix, the amps are going into my two notes captorx with an IR blend of my vm1265 and dv77 speakers.

@@MetalHeadProductionsI feel like every individual amp I play through or listen to is different; there are bands I listen to that use Orange Rockerverbs and their sound is amazing.
I liked the Zombie II so much that I bought one. The Meteor II would be great for playing stoner or doom metal. Both great amps, the Zombie II, is just more my style. 🤘
