This is the first of two videos for joystick tips. This video discusses playing on different surfaces, and hand placement around the button area. Music from Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
Great video. I did like the awkward parts mainly because that is the main reason I don't post any videos of myself on youtube. I can't stand the awkwardness of talking into a camera and thinking that everything that comes out sounds weird. Anyway, great vid, I got my fightstick over the weekend and I love it. I hold the joystick like you but the buttons I hold differently. I go italic style with the buttons instead of straight.
People often set up sticks on chairs, that's one step removed from the ultimate og tactic of sitting on the floor. I like my stick below waist level these days also.
Hey I just noticed something. When I get this not only can doing special moves in fighting games be easier/less awkward to do, but I can also play beat-em up games the old fashion way now! Can't wait to play Scott Pilgrim with this.
There are two different ways to place your hand on the buttons. When you put your hand on the first three buttons its the japanese layout while the one he uses is the american way.
@kaaaaazzzz I drive with both feet in an automatic, left for brake right for acceleration, but most people just use one foot for both pedals. I actually get ridiculed by my family and friends! The reason why is that when you drive a manual, your secondary foot has to take care of the clutch, so your remaining foot handles both the gas and brake.
show us? ok show us. ok? ok. LMAO great vid lol, made me smile btw a tv dinner table works the best imo (if you can find one) i grip the stick with my index and middle finger so i can dash >>
@DisneyHDOnly Top-of-the-line Hori sticks have either Sanwa or Seimitsu hardware, but there are plenty lower-level Hori sticks that have Hori imitation hardware, much like the Madcatz SE has imitation hardware versus the superior TE.
@AustinDale You mean majority of people USED to use Mas sticks, It's a new age bro. Majority of Sticks out there are Japanese Sticks (TE sticks or HRAPS)
@AustinDale American sticks are stiff and require too much force and distance to activate. Exerting more effort in your forearms than your wrist, it's exhausting. That and typical concave happ buttons have to travel a long distance before they trigger. Due to this, it's harder to perform techniques like double-tapping and plinking. Japanese parts are just more sensitive and ergonomic.
@102pieter Who's saying I'm accelerating and breaking at the same time? Driving with two feet means my response time to the brake is much quicker, as is the gas pedal. All I have to do is lift one foot up slightly and drop the other down.
I realized that my long finger likes the style, when they use straight line and over both button there is one finger, so with a tip of my finger I press punch and with "half-finger nuckle" I press the kick. Still not perfect for perfect use of eight buttons when only three fingers are used. I am having problem with my pinky usage.
@yvnas I actually bit my fingernails so short sometimes, that they start to hurt, to prevent myself from biting that nail any further I will sometimes put a bandaid on it. Pretty weird I know, I obviously don't play with a bandaid on my finger because it's difficult.
@ereon6 Yet it's common to break and accelerate in tandem for racing purposes, and certainly not as hazardous as responding slowly with a foot your not comfortable braking with, causing you to kill someone with your 2.5 ton automobile. Also, have you seen an automatic pedal arrangement these days? My brake in my Mazda is on the polar-opposite side of the foot area, certainly not intuitive to jump a single foot between.
@lordofultima you know what... your not alone bro... at least your not subconsciously biting the SKIN off your thumb... I used to use bandaids, but since i wear retainers at home, it's a substitute :) lol.
@lordofultima I play all SF seires (MVC2 mostly). You obviously haven't used an x Arcade stick cuz you would know that its not cheap, clicky, and made out of plastic like the SF stick. Plus, gumball tops are lame. Baseball bat is where its at. wutev, its a preference.
@AustinDale I feel like you came from a time warp 10 years ago or something. Have you been to any street fighter tournaments or watched any streams? 99.95% of the people use japanese sticks (especially the te). The other .04% use pads.
@lordofultima Hey be careful driving your car like that man. Most people tend to hit the brake and the gas at around the same time even if it is a little bit it can fuck your brakes up. Just a heads up.
do you use square gate cause im having trouble playing akuma and ryu cause pulling off hadoken feels akward on my se stick. when im on the left side of the screen the hadoken wont come off right.
@AustinDale You must not play Street Fighter. Nobody plays with poor quality American parts anymore. Especially not the x-arcade stick, which is crummier quality than usual.
just bought a hori fighting stick for my ps3, its my first fighting stick so.......just wondering, are hori a reliable company to count on in the FS department??
Thanks for posting this video. Question though, I just started using a fightstick and realised that it has a square gate restrictor however I normally used the analog on the ps3 controller. Should I change the gate on my fightstick to a circular/octogonal or should I just continue practising on the square gate? Does it even matter?? I'd really appreciate any advice on this subject.
I don't know if they have circle gates but they do have hexagonal and octagonal gates you can buy and put in place of the square gate. It's really all up to what you feel more comfortable with. some people like feeling when they've hit forward or back.
I try to leverage with my ring finger, but I end up just claw gripping from the side in a floaty kind of way. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I have a square gate that requires insanely precise input. So, I'm trying to re engineer my style of play, and fucking sucks.
@lordofultima wtf are you talking about? the street fighter stick hasn't even been out for a year, if that. I know J Wong and Yipes be using Mas sticks. Shit doesn't matter, stick with your Mad Catz.. LOL!
SF te sticks are weak. everyone needs to peep a X-arcade stick. its cheaper than a hori or Mas and the shit is REAl. crazy durable, built like a tank, and clean/ accurate as F*CK! the button placement is standard, and not flush but dipped and the joystick is western style (baseball bat, not gumball) Ferrealz. cop a X-arcade off their website. It helped me step my game up 200%
i shall steal your change and theirs NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!! meh wish i woulda seen the SE stick video before i bought it..crap stick.. shit just got REAL its about to get modded. im startin to wonder if i shouldve just gone straight to the TE..prolly spend 10 more bucks but hey coulda saved some bursted brain vessels ya dig
