Felonious Punk ? Odious Drunk ? Precocious Spunk ?.. just to name a few. Far too much guitar is grossly insufficient, woefully inadequate & nowhere near enough. The JP2C's filth is putrid (nasssty)! 🤘Didyabringyabongalong Station, 455,000sq/a. Central Queensland 🎸
I really appreciate that Leon isn’t picky with gear. He never bashes gear or has a snobby attitude about it. He enjoys the gear for what it is, and is always excited to try it out. 👍
Ha I just want any amp that has a shred switch. One of these heads with an oversized Mesa cab loaded with V30's.... I'd add a further SD-1 pedal, noise gate, Zakk Wylde Wah, sick!
Wow, that sounds awesome! Nice to have such a comprehensive rundown. Didn’t even know this amp did this much. Gotta say, only thing better than seeing my gear reviewed by Leon - listening to the rundown on the way to a Ragdoll gig!
Some interesting facts about the amp: Channel 1: You can get break-up only when pushing mids over 5-6, which then act like a gain boost. Channel 2-3: "Input" Gain on Channel 2 is set on what would be 7.5 on Marck2c+ and 8 on Channel 3. The pull Gain doesn't work as a "Fat switch" (it does sound like one though..) it actually adds a bit more gain in the "input" gain , so it would move the 7.5 input gain to 8 and the 8 to 8.5-9...That's why it gets fatter as well. Last, Presence pull works as a shift from a Mark V to Mark 2c+ presence circuit (thats why its so in your face..) .
Hey Leon, another great vid. Thank you.. As an idea. You should play the IV and JP and TriAxis and whatever else..and get best sounds out of them next to each other. What you said about the IV is true. Would be so good to hear them next to each other.
15:26 - just like the mini mark amps, crank the mid knob and gain on the clean channel and it gives it a warm boost that gets into slightly gritty territory. It's an incredible clean channel, but you can still push it!
So cool to see you demoing my favorite amp! Isn't it amazing how much gain she has on tap? You only had the Ch2 gain between 9 and 10 o'clock and still had some killer chunk! Between the 2 switchable EQs and midi control, she's such a versatile piece of gear.
I quite interested in these amps. Question: how representative is the tone listening via youtube compared to listening to it in person? It's sound very bright and buzzy through my speakers. Can barely hear the bass.
Hey man, I have one of this but I just set my settings to match yours but the gain is just way too low compared to your sound, what do you think might be the issue?
How’s that working out for you? I’ve owned a JP2C for a few years now (absolutely love it) and I also own a Helix but I’m on the fence right now about sellin the Helix and getting an Axe 3 or my dream amp (Bogner Ecstacy). This is for studio use, not live.
Hi Leon. I have a mark iv also and it's presence pot pulled is low and higher in volume from 0-10. Pushed presence has equal volume from 0-10. Cool to see the jp2c being more consistent. At least it seemed that way. Thanks for an awesome video!
Wow, fantastic! SOOO much gain on channel 3 LOL I noticed this in the Axe FX model too, sometimes way too much for me I have a tube/real Mark V, and have owned a Mark IV - axe fx Mark graphic EQ doesn't really respond the same way the real amps do Now toward the end of the vid. Man... of all your guitars, that strat has the most unique sound to me. What a special guitar Awesome playing and tones, thank you for sharing this!
Some notes on the "pull" knobs: The "pull gain" adds a bit of base gain (it is basically two different settings for the "Volume 1" on the vintage amps, while the JP2C Volume is akin to "Volume 2." For the "pull presence," pulling it makes it the same as the vintage presence control, which had a pretty narrow usable range. The default setting targets a bit lower frequency and has a much wider range, so it can be much more useful.
On my wish list since it does so many styles well and as a DT and Metallica fan would get me in the zone for these riffs plus sounds different than my Mezzabarba MZero and Bogner Uberschall amp. Hopefully Mesa gets amp shortage parts issue resolved soon and Gibson does not screw up the quality of Mesa.
I think something is wrong with my jp2c. I have to max the gain out to get that level of saturation. Anything below 3 o’clock it sounds like AC/DC distortion.
Amazing amp. Nothing I heard would make me wanna ditch my MKIV for one. I don't play out so the dual EQ, while fantastic, is totally unnecessary for me. This is really suited best for the dudes that play out a lot.
Leon!!! That made a Mark VII and I just bought the jp2c It has not arrived yet but what would you do Stick with the JP or trade up to the newest shiniest toy
If you play these amps at the end does not seems to play a petrucci thing? I cant explain but seems that is the amp making the sound.. And not the player..
I think it sucks that other countries have to pay an arm and a leg for Mesa's. Maybe Gibson buying them could help with distribution? I don't have too much faith since Gibson doesn't seem to operate very well itself.
To me the shred thing is kind of silly. They made the pull deep always in circuit on this amp , which is probably why they had to add the shred. My no stripe takes the same kind of prescense boost to track well If I have the pull deep on. I think they should have just left it as a pull pot or one of the switches.
There a fat sounding amp. Petrucci runs his AXE-FX into it from what I know for effects. He gets amazing tone. I have a Mark V 25 with Mesa cab, but I don't play it much these days. It sounds great and the FM3 into it for effects can make it sound really great. But I'm done with tube amps for now. I prefer to just use Fractal. I really need to list it and get rid of the Mark V and cab, and build an AXE-FX rig. I'm mainly just writing and recording these days and have been pumping money into my studio though. But I think it's best to just skip an FM9, use the FM3 for a lighter rig, and use the AXE-FX rig for heavier.
Great video. Agree with your conclusion. But a bit late. Here in US you can’t find clean MkIV. People snagged them up after MkV did meet the hype. Used Mk IV heads when you find them are $2,500 range US close to the JP2C new.
My 2C must have a preamp tube issue, cause it sounds nothing like that at those settings. I need to have the gain and treble above 3 o'clock to even get close to that level of gain, and it's noisy as hell then too.
