16:02 "..now what shred does, it controls the rate of the Earth and how many people die in a minute around the world, which helps to add clarity, tightness and aggression to heavy riffs. Yes, I am your God."
Very clever, +DanielRDB :D. It does take a fair amount of effort and expensive parts to design and build a legitimate C+ reissue with three channels, 2 EQs, tube spring reverb and FX and a full fledged CabClone in good ol' USA. Compared to some single channel amps out there that are as much or more, hopefully some folks find some value in this amp. Appreciate the pun... :D
Thanks very much, +Tyler Saltmarsh! RU-vid and videos are an important way for people to learn about our products and a great place to answer questions and take care of folks! Thanks for taking the time to share some kind words and let us know if we can help. :)
Now imagine living in Europe where all Mesa amps cost twice us much just for the heck of it. Seriously, a Friedman brown eye costs less than this thing around here (about 4.3k $ after tax).
Actually he didn't even turn up the gain, just played a little harder. That's what you get after years and years of eating small live mammals, good for the hands, y'know...
+Daniel Chachanashvili Usually he refers to his rhythm tone as a "crunch tone". It's not just here I've seen him say it. I just find it odd since 90% of guitarists I've seen refer to a crunch tone as an AC/DC style mild breakup, and not something super-saturated like that.
+Blu Amps used to have clean, crunch, and lead channels back in the 80s, so we still refer to them as such even if they're not "crunchy." Unrelated: I like the Mark IV vs original MarkIIC Petrucci did for M/B a few years ago. The old amp sounds airy and uncompressed/full range & powerful. I don't hear anything like that in this amp, so it doesn't make sense to me the way this demo sounds almost exactly like the one done with the Mark IV. I hope someone can do a comparison and prove that these are identical to the old amp somehow, isn't that the point? Anyway. I LOVE Mesa/Boogie. But this should sound more like you would expect from the real thing. Otherwise just call it something else and it's still good, but not a MarkIIC.
Such a cool piece of kit and such a great host. I love how passionate John still is after all these years and how specific and meticulous he is about his sounds. The riff at 11:31 sounds absolutely fantastic. So fat and rich. Love it.
As a French Marshall man, i discover recently Dream Theater (i knew that band before...i hear deeper since few months) i will have a Mesa some day. This amp is so precise. That's outstanding. The crunch is so dynamic.... Petrucci is gold, Mesa is legend.
I have owned this amp for about a few months now and it's simply incredible. I can spend so much time chugging some chords just to hear that signature mesa palm mute effect. It's so tight, and you hear all notes being distorted individually. You can also dial it in to be soooooo chunky. The tone is monstrous. Add to that the BITE that comes from the notes! Move onto lead and somehow the same amp can deliver just the most delicious creamy and sustainy tone. Finally not to mention, the build quality is superb (Made in the USA, baby). Out of the box it smells kind of like a new car smell, but a new amp smell. You can also feel the quality simply by adjusting the EQ. To anyone who's on the fence about this amp, stop thinking about it and just get it. It's quite possibly the best metal amp made to date. Pair it with a mesa v30 cabinet, a les paul or explorer with EMGs, and prepare to be shocked at the Metallica tone at your fingertips.
Just traded my Mark V towards a JP-2C. While I loved the Mark V - the JP-2C just has me blown away. Midi and Cab Clone replaces some gear in my rig too - very nice touch. Great job and collaboration!
These are the best amps made rn. They aren't cheap and shouldn't be. Been to the store in Hollywood and talked to a guy that worked there and he explained to me how much time goes into making them. Truly the best amps ever made.
Not only is this guy an amazing guitarist but a pitchman as well. I learned a lot that applies to any amp. You can tell he's super smart just by the way he communicates. He never stumbles over his words just like he never stumbles over his notes. I'm blown away by both the amp AND him. Just like Perry D. said. Time to sell a kidney. But I'm keeping both of mine...I wonder what I could get for my appendix?
I've been using mesa gear for 15 years now. Still own an original MK3 redstripe head. This demo is the ultimate amp IMHO. The possibilities of different sounds are endless. well done mesa boogie again!
I Love my JP2c+🤓.. in my little world of amateur metal playing live in bars or doing home recordings I have the perfect Hetfield / Petrucci CRUNCH but I've always tried to get. These amps are worth every dime... I love my triple but this one takes the cake for me. Absolutely beautiful tone.. special thanks to you John for showing us a little tip on how to get started with the knobs.
Welp... finally gave in to the temptation and bought one. They announced this beast like 2 months after I bought a Mark V. The tones in this video are mind-blowing to me, especially that massive rhythm tone at 00:49. Even though I have a Mark V (which is so far the best amp I've ever played, I love every mode of every channel) and recently acquired a 2 channel rev G Rectifier (amazing amp as well), I've been lusting after this head for 2 years now. Can't wait for it to get here. Definitely not going to work that day lol.
Congrats on the new amp incoming, Chris - and we hope it exceeds your expectations. Definitely a BEAST of an amp from the punch and clarity factor. Big Iron! Thanks for the kind words on the Mark V as well - definitely a library of amazing tones. thanks for your support and let us know if we can help with anything. Rock on!
This amplifier is beautiful to the eyes and ears! And imagining the magical feeling that you can have in playing guitar with this wonderful instrument, I would add that it is also beautiful for the heart! Congratulation +MESA/Boogie and Mr. John Petrucci!!
Everyone has been complaining for years to have Mesa release a 2C+ reissue and now all the complaints are that it's $2,500 for standard issue. Just a bit more than the Mark 5? Thank you Mesa Boogie, you just killed the Internet !
John Petrucci has such a signature sound and voice on the guitar, and he has been honing and improving it consistently as the years have passed. Serious respect!
I've got mine in November 2016 (and yes the limited version). It is really a monster and sounds astonishing. If you like the original 2c+ sound you have to check one out! I never have to buy another amp for heavy sounds. Thank you Mesa!
I got my JP-2C in today and I love it, by far the best amp I ever owed. I screen shot JP's settings for clean crunch and lead and it's crazy how dead on my amp sounds compared to this video. Awesome amp I don't think is has a bad tone, I wish I had the fractal instead of my Helix for my fx tho, that would really rock my socks off.
I just left the Sweetwater website and they have this for $2500 and the limited edition with a flame maple front panel with mother of pearl Boogie inlay and signed by John and Randall Smith for $3500. Throw in another $1200 for matching 4x12 cab and you have a budget friendly, great sounding amp that you can jam in your bedroom and make mom and dad proud!
One feature I'd like to see for combo amps is a Factory Option for "Tilt-Back Legs". Given a decent PA capable of miking and supporting everything, and of course with a full monitor system, there no longer is a need for huge instrument amps since the PA can handle it better. One way that it is better is that monitors face each player and they can be setup so that no matter the venue your sound is only ~6 feet away. I have used a combo roughly Boogie sized with Tilt-Back Legs and set it in front of my mike stand essentially as a monitor. It still provided decent stage volume and what was lacking the PA took up. It was the best gigging arrangement I've ever had in that geez! my amp actually has highs and the consistency just set me free. Fast setup and awesome motivation/sonic feedback loop to make me play my best. Might be worth a Poll.
Great ideas, +enorbet2! We used to make a product called the kickstand but it never quite caught on. There's quite a few nice looking products out there for this kind of thing right now but we'll pass the suggestion on to the design team and let's see if they can come up with something! :)
+MESA/Boogie I guess enorbert is suggesting built in legs on combo amp like some Fender Twins had way back? This would work on JP2Cs though lol, but could be an addon for say the 1 x 12 speaker boxes. A builtin option that could be added later is better than a standalone ... we already have enough shit to lug for gigs. Those that have roadies and guitar techs are in the minority and they could fabricate their own stage.
Just bought one today after watching John's video this morning. The local mom and pop chain had a JP-2C head. I had not tried it yet. I walked in today and they had it marked down from $2500 to $1900 since it had been sitting unsold since the day it arrived. I ran it through its paces with a Charvel SoCal and I liked it. Still pricey but I bought it. Once I got it home connected to my Soldano 4x12 with G12H30's at proper volumes the amp came alive. This is the most "Un-Boogie" sounding Boogie I have ever heard. I gigged with a Mark IIC combo for a couple years back in the early 90s but it didn't sound *anything* like this. The clean channel is wonderful. Loud and full. The gain channels are muscular and very articulate without that normal Boogie "fizz" I am used to. Honestly, this amp in my room sounds much better than this video. If you like this video you will *love* this amp.
Congrats on the new amp, Peter! Appreciate the kind words and so glad it's exceeding expectations. It's a POWERFUL amp for sure and glad you're digging it. Rock on! :)
Besides being a full-out tonefest, this is one of the best vids I’ve ever seen for explaining how to dial in tones and how each setting works to tighten your tones. Definitely with saving to favorites.
congratulations Mesa and JP for bringing out this amazing product! And people, before going mad about the price, just take a look at all the million features it has!!! some "boutique" little one channel amps (cough tone king cough two rock cough) cost even MORE than this...so stop bitching...
Thank you, +Pe Peroni ! It is a huge honor for us to have collaborated with John on this. After so many years of his loyal use of Mesa, this is the icing on the cake of an amazing, nearly 30 year story! :D Rock on...
+MESA/Boogie yes i can only imagine how great it must feel! ive been following Mesas work and Johns work for a long time now, and seeing this amp come out is an amazing feel even for a regular guy like me... congrats again and keep up the good (best) work guys! cheers
@MESA/Boogie, I'm well aware of the Soldanos, Bogners, Diezels, Riveras, Victorys of the world, but when y'all make amps like this, IT'S SO HARD TO WANT TO TRY ANYTHING BUT THAT!!!!! PROUD OWNER OF MARK IV & JP2C and caps lock button. Also, look on my channel, I just used my JP2C to do the National Anthem for an MMA event!
This. Is. Awesome. Kevin. Thanks for the kind words and psyched to hear the JP-2C was involved in the National Anthem at an MMA event. Kickass and rock on. :)
Well done Mesa. I own a Mark IIC+ that you guys just serviced and put into a new head cab. It's the best amp I've ever played through. Makes all other amps just sound plain silly.
Fuck it, I don't need my car. I need this amp because of reasons. I'm surprised, that you guys at Boogie, haven't built a signature amp for James Hetfield.
+Juan José Fonseca Godoy He basically has one. The triaxis setup he uses. he was like the first to really get into rack systems. But i agree that he should get one modeled off the iic+
Oh my God! This is a dream come true! A Mark series amp with two identical drive channels and MIDI built-in!! I own a Roadster Combo (which sounds incredible), but I love the Mark sound way more. That tightness and how those 2nd and 3rd order harmonics pops up with ease. I want this so badly!!!
All these fantastic features and it doesn't even control the temperature of the sun?? Congrats John on the amp! Mesa Boogie, you guys just about knocked it out of the park with this amp and more. Hopefully I can snatch one very soon!
John if your reading this . It's a breath of fresh your discriptions & definitions. You really know your stuff and that's what will get me one day to buy if not your endorsed and created amp. Any Mesa Boogie products. Life by music⚡ Sincerely GT
Agreed! +John Nelson - There's truly great information in this video that applies to all Boogie, and especially all Mark Series amps! Thanks for watching. :D
