lol, I used to use FB to compress and then Mac Preview Save As. There are WP compression plugins too.

Very good info to tell the web public. I'd thought you might comment on the quality setting(s) to use for JPEGs. Small files vs higher quality. And perhaps on PNG vs PNG8. One question my eye examinations haven't resolved is whether PNG (in Photoshop) ever somewhat changes the dominant colors in the image to encompass similar colors. That could be bothersome. - - - - - - Howsoever, coverage of these matters isn't really needed since you bring Kraken.io into the picture (so to speak). Thank you for that! Off I go to see if it's free (or darn close to free).

PNG is actually better than JPEG in quality and has a bit of compressing and not like jpeg just compressing stuff into 8x8 segments, and PNG's "fuzzy" effect depends on the resizing algorithm; using bilinear is the fuzzy effect but bicubic is like bilinear but a bit blocky and nearest just does not use any of the AA stuff, and nearest is best used for pixelated games and art. Well JPEG is only used for taking large pictures and not to just compress your art which has literally just 3 color palettes in it

take a picture of a tree with a png you retain almost all the detail I take a picture with jpeg my tree looks like a panting it has almost no detail and I can not print this image the edges also lose detail this video might be for digital art only where there would be less detail but I do not agree with only using jpeg I use png

So I get that jpgs lead to smaller file sizes for photos, but why should png degrade the quality of photographs, when it is a lossless format?

Your information on the PNG format is misleading. Yes it typically is quite a bit larger than a jpeg file but it is always lossless compressed. PNG uses the deflate algorithm which is also used in zip files. PNG files give you 100% the same output as the image you put in. You said photographs saved as PNG looks worse than jpegs. This is just plain wrong. If it looks worse then you have "manually", on purpose, lowered the quality of your image before you saved it as png (probably to reduce the filesize even more). However the format itself is always lossless. Technically JPEG could be lossless as well. However the result would be larger than a BMP file. Almost all JPEG encoders always use a quantization table since that's what gives you the actual compression.
