Senna was better than Schumi. Don’t forget that although his Williams has problems in 1994, he managed to outqualify Schumi. I would say that Schumi was better than Montoya though. It was a shame that Montoya left F1, as I did quite like him. He made it interesting. He also did some daring moves.
He's the most underrated driver of his era. He's not just quick in Formula 1. He's won in every form of motorsport. Formula 1, IndyCar, Sports Cars, and NASCAR
@@joshuaw_270 I emailed him asking what car he liked better indy car or a nascar. He actually responded and his answer was "Whichever car I am winning in".
Actually he once spoke to Colombian TV and said that the reason why he hated press is bc they never ask good questions, they just want to dig into the drivers nerves and try to get the best headline instead of the actual information. In Spanish we call it "prensa amarilla" and is like what recently happened to Norris, he was recently asked "If Checo wasn't Max's partner, who do you think would be a good partner/rival for him" Lando mentioned some names like Lewis, Alonso, Charles and so. But the Spanish media turned his words around as if he was saying Checo is a bad partner for Max and as if he hated Checo. So yeah I think that's the reason that Montoya was so blunt about his rejection to press and media and why he says that he likes Max's personality bc he is also very blunt too
The guy asked him if he missed F1? Man He went to Nascar, racing every weekend, then Indycar and won 2015 indy500, then became one of the top drivers in Noth American endurance racing.
F1 fans talk shit on indycar because it has 3 oval races. But they don’t realize they actually create great racing, especially when the lead changes 3 times in the last 2 corners, and winnng from anywhere on the grid. Not to Mention, the Indy 500 had over 300,000 people in attendance on RACE DAY, while the British GP had 300,000 over a whole weekend. Let them sleep on it lol
He was kinda like Verstappen back in the day, pure racer tons of talent and was agressive. Everything I look for in F1 racers. Not afraid to go for gaps, mind you that there was no DRS back in the day, so basically every time you would pass another car it would involve dive bombing into a very small gap.
You rarely saw passes in those days. Montoya was different. He was so aggressive and went flat out all the time. Him and Mansell for me are the best overtakers F1 has seen.
The rising number one of formula one, Juan, one wonders, should Juan only win one formula one one year, would Juan want to have won that one in round one, Juan? EDIT: OMG thanx for likes xD I never thought I will have nr. 1 comment :D
A Sunday evening in London during March 2001…. I switch on the television and see an onboard shot of a driver applying extreme opposite lock of every corner. Has the WRC made a trip to Albert Park, I thought? Then I see the name on screen flash up, it was Juan Pablo Montoya. My 13 year old self had thought F1 was quite boring up until that point, but JPM’s balls-to-the-wall style, swagger and total confidence got me hooked on the F1; I’m still interested to this day. He was the strongest driver personality I can remember, I have to thank him for sparking my passion for motorsport!
I'll never forget the hollow feeling that I felt when Montoya left F1. He's such a character, and a really great balls to the wall driver. I've never seen anyone drive an F1 so aggressively. Sometimes that was his downfall. But that's what makes him unique. We need more characters like him in F1. Thank you for the memories.
@@JSRossiascoG Ferrari and Schumacher with the FIA screwed him of the 2003 title by banning the Michelin tyres with a few races left. They were left playing catchup and of course Schumacher ran away with the title.
Are you all 12 or something?? F1 is just fine at the moment. Every era had its ups and downs. You just seem to forget easily or you just weren't around back then.. I've watched dozens of races without a single overtake for the top 5. It was like watching a train. As for team orders nowadays, tell that to Barrichello, Webber, Massa, Irvine, Coulthardetc etc...No2 drivers will always be number 2. And if Valtteri doesn't like it he can go be no1 in a smaller team.
"Oh no he didn't see me there, wow, no. Pwoah, no chance. You know you gotta be blind or stupid to not see me, but y'know It's racing." One of the most amazing press conferences of the decade.
Kind of refreshing to hear him speak so positively about current F1. I was expecting him to be like some of the other guys from his generation and be totally negative about it.
One of my favourite drivers of all time. He’s underrated in most lists too in my opinion considering all he’s achieved across Indy, NASCAR, F1 and sports cars.
Jacques Villeneve and Juan Montoya are my favourite drivers of the last 30 years, both won Indy before F1, Juan won Indy twice Jacques got the F1 title...both speak their mind almost to a fault, sometimes against each other....both gave up on F1 and switched to Nascar for the same reasons....the kind of guys you could have a beer or 10 with and have to break up a fight before the night is over.
They are real racers. Can drive anything fast. Only awful politics in F1 and some poor decisions that stopped them from dominating the world. Even Montoya at 40 won the ROC against the then current F1 drivers. So much natural talent its ridiculous
Huge thanks for this man, I really would love to see a large interview with Juan pablo If you can someday. That penalty he got back when he races Michael was the biggest unfair penalty of motor sports history.
Well Juan was the rising number one in his season one of formula one career back in 2001, so it’s safe to say that Juan was one of the fastest ones which makes me wonder why he hadn’t won one single championship during his formula one career. Poor Juan.
Matt, your carreer is absolutely stunning! I still remember your legendary rivalry against Fisifan in AOR (Basically what brought me into competetive Sim Racing, which I slacked off on recently, tbh...) but anyhow. At that time I never thought it was possible to actually make a career, meet those real racing legends and even drive a real F1 car out of it! Absolutely amazing!
Montoya was [is] awesome in f1,the only guy to really challenge Schumacher.its true, the stewards were always against him favouring Schui or others, was always rooting for him but since he left I like Kimi.good luck Juan Pablo Montoya.
A champion in my books, met him at LBGP the Saturday before he won on SUN, that year went on to win Indy500, moved to F1, and the rest is history...was track marshalling for Indy Lights and he casually walked up to us, as he watched Lights qualy...
I've been a JPM fan since watching him win his first Indy 500 and have enjoyed his career ever since. I only wish that some radio chatter from Indy car and NASCAR had made it into the mix too. I'd love to hear his take on the jet dryer accident now that lots of years have passed. He's one of the last who has won in so many different disciplines. Formula 1, Indy car, NASCAR, sports cars, he's just an interesting guy and I wish him the best.
@The man who didn't follow the damn train Andretti won the F1 world championship, NASCAR cup, Daytona 500, 4 Indy Car titles, the Indy 500 and a World Sportscar championship. Talk about ignorance. LMFAO
I met Montoya in Watkins Glen years ago an I wearing Jeff Gordon apparel and he took my backpack that had 24 on it and drew switcheroo arrows to make 42 lol
