Actually, it was spelled Juansinfron in the beginning, but after a lovely talk with Cucco Peña, the composer, I learned that his original spelling was Juansinfrom, as Juan(cito Torres) sin (without) from (as 'roots') Thought it was a fun hommage to change the title 😊 thanks for your words!!

BTW I was a serious student of John Clyman and Claude Gordon many years ago and have held a trumpet to my face long enough (tens of thousands of hours) to know how truly exceptional you are. Bravo Antoine ! Excellent rendition of this beloved piece composed by Maestro Ángel "Cucco" Peña for Juancito Torres. I remember when this was recorded in the late 70's and you just made an unforgettable homage to Juancito. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!

It’d be interesting for me to know how did you find this tune, recorded in Puerto Rico in the late 70s. According to Cucco Peña, the composer and arranger and a trumpet player himself, the soloist (Juan Torres, from Caguas, Puerto Rico, known to all of us as “Juancito”) had worked all day in the recording studio. It was past midnight and Cucco told Juancito to go home and record this tune on another day. The master trumpeter opted to record it that night, and needed only one take! By the way, I love this rendition. It’s spectacular. Thank you!

Amazing story ! Makes the recording even more impressive ! I got to hear this tune thanks to Wim Both, lead trumpet of the WDR Big Band and a friend of mine. He played with Juancito at the Puerto Rico Jazz Fest years ago and since then was a big fan :) He made everybody listen to Juancito's recordings over here. I'm very glad he did so !!

I loooove that orchestra and its members. This planet is a village. That's why we need to take care of each other and think in global terms. Thanks for replying. Keep up the amazing work! I saw Juancito live several times, and also on Puerto Rican TV. Once, after he had played in my hometown, myself and some friends mustered the courage to say hi to him after he finished playing. He was very kind (we were teenagers, and played in the school band, where I played the alto sax). He was such a great guy, down to earth and genuine. Died suddenly at his home (heart attack) in 2003, age 67. Say hi to Mr. Both for me!

Antoine, to follow up on my previous remarks, you are all great musicians, so you are aware of your own musicianship, but also appreciate the abilities of colleagues known and unknown. Juancito was famous for his sight-reading and improvising abilities, and for a beautiful tone. He was versatile -jazz, AfroCuban and AfroPuerto Rican music, pop, classical, you name it. You might be interested in listening to other Puerto Rican trumpeters. It wouldn't surprise me if you have heard a tune titled "Coro Miyare", recorded in 1977 by Fania All Stars. It was recorded in New York, but 90% of the musicians hailed from Puerto Rico. The trumpet solo (also needed just one take) was by then 27-year-old Luis "Perico" Ortiz, from Santurce, Puerto Rico.
