@sonymusic @judaspriest @KKsPriest Live DVD & exclusive 30 minute ‘Making of British Steel’ interview released May 10, 2010. #kkdowning #judaspriest
@@patgodfrey1345 I envy you wildly! Would fancy seeing KK's Priest live, also the other artists he's inviting to play. He seems to have an excellent taste for music.
KK seemed to be so underappreciated in the band and publicity was never centered on him. He was as much the JP ingredient as anyone. His rhythms and over the top leads were the essence of JP. Of the bunch he is my hero! The cameras and spotlight always seemed to center on Glenn who is great but it always undermined what KK was doing.
Could not agree more! KK is a huge inspiration to thousands of guitar learners, quite literally. He was exactly as important as Glenn. AFAIK this was KK's main reason to quit Judas Priest. He felt himself humiliated. I can absolutely understand him.
Priest is Ken. Tipton always comes across as a wanker. A totally over rated guitar player. Yes, he's got Parkies, I've had family die the same, so he doesn't get that sympathy card from me. Ken is the soul of JP.
@vinskeeter I loved Sad Wings Of Destiny, Sin After Sin, and Stained Class. But British Steel did nothing fer me, sorry but to my ears it was absolutely dire. I hated BTL, just saw nothing in it. I love classic Sabbath esp Vol 4, Sabotage, etc, Purple, Zep, Floyd, Montrose debut album, Priest albums up to Stained Class, saw them live on the Stained Class tour, loved it, stuff like Beyond The Realms Of Death, all that stuff, love it to bits, but later JP and stuff like Maiden went straight over my head, just not my cup o' tea, sorry.
In this interview you can see that KK was looked down on. I`m surprised they even let him speak. I don`t miss the current JP at all. KK`s killing it along with Ripper.
Agreed. He looks extremely uncomfortable. I don't care for KK's Priest, but watching this makes me happy that he was able to move on from a failed business venture to create more metal. Hopefully his leaving the band will give people two awesome bands like when Dave was kicked out of Metallica for his issues.
Agreed. Fron what I've read, the band didn't want another guitarist. And, unfortunately, Glenn took creative control of the band through his relationship with management. I wish KK could have done more creative work like in Winter/Deep Freeze/Winter Retreat and Sinner.
It's just kk and Glenn really...there both lead and rhythm players...one guys wants the spotlight...think Glenn and kk both got big egos but I guess to get to where they did u kinda almost gotta
The truth is that Priest are the ultimate Metal band of all time, period. There has never been nor will there ever be a band quite like them. As they say in the classics, they are THEE METAL GODS!
So true. I've been searching and listening to all these classic heavy metal bands that are simmilar to Judas Priest you know Accept, Saxon, Malice, Stormwitch, etc... and dont get me wrong all of these bands are absolutley amazing but no one is like Priest. My absolute favorite band of all time period.
I would say Judas, Saxon and Maiden are the big 3 of NWOBHM. Accept and Stormwitch (both German) IMHO are boring. By the way my Cousin played drums for Stormwitch 2014/15...
@@martinkasper197 Accept and Stormwitch boring? Right whatever if thats your opinion thats fine but to me they are both amazing, i would say modern Maiden is boring. Oh and Priest was not the part of NWOBHM, Motörhead as well so i would say Saxon, Angel Witch and Maiden of that time are the big 3 of NWOBHM...
I didn't garner anything but love and respect across the board here for each member. There was nothing but fondness for each other and genuine sincerity. Oh... and KK's Priest are awesome! Just a side note!
Hello from Italy. Im have 53 years and have know the HM thanks at Priest and the amazing music and armony into the your song's. I still listen of course this...particolar san Bernardino live 83...no word for this live!! Killing live festival. Tnx again for give me this energy. Ciao Luca
I just finished KK's Book. Great read and different perspective for sure from what i seen in 80's. They were such a enjoyable part of my life back then. Victim of change is still one of my favorites. Thanks Priest for your hard work and dedication.
Too bad they didn't recognize the drummer that helped make this album possible. Guess that's show business, forget the ones that get you there. R.I.P Dave Holland, I'll remember your great drumming skills with Judas Priest.
Maybe to recognize would mean doling out royalties to the estate of Mr. Holland. Probably more to do with their former drummer being convicted of pedo sex crimes. Just sayin.
@@neonspec I think I first read that in Guitar Magazine around 1990. They noted the album's absence of blues / classic rock influences. It's pure metal.
🎸🙋♀️Thx for posting! Love hearing my fav band of all time.. sharing childhood stories & how they created some of my fav songs. Judas Priest changed my life from 1st time I heard them on a friend’s cassette player. I said fanatically “I LOVE THAT! WHO IS THAT?” He said JUDAS PRIEST! I cancelled my solo gigs, packed my van & moved from my small PA town to cities where I could find other musicians who played this music! I earned a recording contract in Hollywood with people you know but gave it up to take care of Grandma. Now jamming with local musicians & back to solo gigs in PA. Haha Miss the 80s early 90s! God Bless!
I wanted to say something to everybody here, but that’s not possible at this point all you seem like such a wonderful open minded, smart people. I hope I can win. I love Rob it’s been my favorite performer since I was as long as I can remember actually, I appreciate all of you.
1978 possibly 1979 International Amphitheater Southside of Chicago.... Opening Act for Kiss...... Blew Me Away.... 45 yrs Later One of My favorite Band...Saw Rush Moving Pictures Tour As Well....
Yes, but JP totally revamped/condensed the song as to make it completely unrecognizable to the original (which was completely different - bluesy psychedelia).@@latentsea
👍👍 Actually I prefer the JP version (especially the 1979 live version) - much more energetic and heavy. The Fleetwood Mac original version (~1970) is a pure Blues/Psychedelic trip. Very moody, doomy and kinda slow moving with the same instantly recognizable riff/verse and very interesting, too. But the FM version sort of meanders/improvises whereas the JP version sticks to the main verse throughout. RIP Peter Green. @@latentsea
Got into Priest in 79 when I saw unleashed in the east and bought it,saw them open for kiss ,British was a very exciting and big album for metal when it came out and is still part of metal history!
Ha! Me too. Judas Priest opening for KISS. September 7th, 1979. At The Spectrum, Philadelphia. Both were awesome, with Priest on the come up, not much money, but their finest material to perform! Great double bill. Unleashed in The East, indeed! Then came British Steel, with it's powerful, unified breakthrough. And it's best songs: Rapid Fire Steeler Metal Gods Grinder The Rage Breaking The Law You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise *On a personal note, I had just bought my first "real guitar" in '79.... a Black Stratocaster with a lacquered maple neck. Exactly like Tipton's in much of these live clips. Cut my teeth on that guitar and became very good in short time. So seeing it here also adds an extra bit of nostalgia.
What about Dave Holland? He improved Judas Priest and changed their sound. Dave Holland’s intense tension on the drums made “Point of Entry “ , British Steel and “Screaming Vengeance”..!
IMO Kenneth Downing was the main attraction in this bands live proformances and over all visual Image of Judus Priest .First image that comes to mind when i think of Priest is Kk with his long blonde hair decked out in leather and chrome stage gear playing his iconic and trademark Gibson Flying V
I watched another documentary about the British Steel album. In it, Ken and Glenn also talk about them being the first rock band have two lead guitarists. Possibly, but The Outlaws and Lynyrd Skynyrd did it previously with three!
brilliant upload I am currently trying to recreate the British Steel album sounds on guitar so I can record my own Priest covers \m/ so watching this while breaking out the Marshall Amp, MXR distortion pedals and a 10 band EQ :)
@@dmitryowens I also have been experimenting to recreate Point of Entry and British Steel sounds on tones for all instruments. So far, for guitar I am using a tube screamer, vintage 30’s and a 70’s Marshall. (Besides using my SG’s), surprisingly my evh Wolfgang sounds very close. I will dig up my old mxr gear as you suggested. Thank you. Tama drums with remo control sound or pin stripe drum heads. P bass, pick and solid state amp, (he used peavy I believe). Can’t duplicate Rob Howford. He’s amazing and one of a kind..!
One of the top 20 necessary albums I would have on a deserted island. The rest would be in no certain order such as; Judas Priest-British Steel. Black Sabbath- Paranoid. Rainbow-Rising. Black Sabbath- Heaven n Hell. Judas Priest- Nostradamus( Fuckin Masterpiece! ) AC/DC- High Voltage. Def Leppard-High N Dry. Iron Maiden-7th Son. Megadeth-Peace Sells. Metallica-Master of Puppets. Queensrchye-Rage For Order. Sanctuary-The Mirror Black. DIO-Holy Diver. DIO-Last in Line. Metal Church-Metal Church. Iron Maiden-Brave New World. Megadeth-Rust in Peace. Metallica-And Justice For All. AC/DC-Back in Black. Queensryche-Operation Mindcrime.
Dave Holland was the ONLY drummer that did these songs justice! He was like Ian, in that they were the deep concrete foundations, that the heaviest metal band stood upon! This five, is PRIEST!
Of course the drummer isn’t involved in the interview lol. I keep waiting for the drummer to explode. JP drummer? That should be a investigative search.
I liked British steel alot but to Me it started them on the path to a more commercial sound for the masses it worked they sold more records the scorpions did the same thing after uli left sold more records.more commercial commercial. I liked rocka Rolla sad wings sin after sin stained class killing machine just better material material in my opinion
So true. Although it's a good album, it doesn't compare to sad wings, stained class, or killing machine. Those 3 albums are totally incredible and unbeatable. Plus for me, Les Binks was the best drummer priest ever had
To get a producer out there instead of bringing K. K bk out there is probably the biggest huh? I can remember in the band. I saw there Screaming tour bk in the day.. They blended like no two guitarists I have ever heard.
Without KK, and considering how Glenn is struggling with Parkinson...there is no Judas Priest. I enjoy the actual lineup but it's a fragment of what used to be.
The metal God's speak with class, as gentleman's. Their music...top notch. Today's scenery? Predominantly is the oposite: poor music and lack of class.
While Sabbath started it, Priest were the ones that brought metal out of the blues based style and gave it that faster, metallic edge that set the standard for every other band to follow. Maiden may be more popular, and Metallica has sold the most but I guarantee that if you poll any professional musician and ask them to define the ultimate metal band, 99% will say Judas Priest set the standard and truly represent what true Heavy Metal is.....PERIOD
Saw them live …maybe 2-3000 people…long club nit deep so we could see the band …..when they started breaking the law and the crowd went ape shit….they all looked at each other like really….
I love the Judas Priest. But without Rob, I didn't care. I went not to the gigs until he came back. Same situation with KK. I'm not leaving until he's not in the band again. Who's the fuck is Richie Faulkner?
This is a joke its all cut and paste. love the band dont get me wrong. You want to hear Priest at their top of the metal world. US 83 festival. RU-vid it
