I’d lose a testicle if I wore tight red pleather trousers like that guitarist! But seriously, I find most metal a little, erm, let’s just say it takes itself too seriously. But this sounds great! Camp as Christmas and happy about it, and the music is dynamic as hell.
Take me back to those days please. So much better. The tube was a brilliant show priest were one of the first bands I seen at Newcastle city hall in the early eighties at the ripe old age of 13 I think.
Hmm, not sure what you watch. So few bands feel the need to use a huge wal of Marshall except the dummy ones for props (see Rush for why the use of rotisseries and washing machines) as either it's a tinly 1950's 20W amp or a box of chips. Many use samples with the drum mix as well. Compression and other stuff gives you clear vocals. Once it's in the mixer it's all digital anyway. At least the bands have evolved . . .

They did Electric eye, Freewheel Burning and You got another thing coming live, Breaking the law and Green manalishi were played after the show ended at 7 If my memory serves me right
Sorry mate, even then they were multi-tracking and cut and paste editing. Still plenty of bands about too. I'm old but seem to know more about newer metal bands, maybe I'm just not stuck in some non-existant dreamland. Evolution not stagnation - thank F.
@@keithsquawk Respectfully I don't think he was talking about multitracked albums. I think he was talking about pre-recorded stuff, ala KISS. There is def. more of that BS nowadays than back then.
I remember laying down in front of the TV watching it live as it happend, with a massive cheesy grin(der ?!?!)on my face. I'm 61 years old now (on the 10th, actually !) and that smile is even bigger than when I was 21 years old..... Thank you for the upload.....🤗😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🖖✌️
Massive smile on me watching this classic priest,no prisoners taken....just looking at some of the women in the crowd and imagining how many times rob said (sorry luv your barking up the wrong tree 🤗👌)....back when music was live listen to it and weep....😊
KK - thanks for posting. Awesome as usual!!! Can never get enough of Priest!! Four hundred years from now people will honor this like Vivaldi - loud Vivaldi!!!
Freewheel Burning version is just insane. I remember watching this tour in German TV when they played in Dortmund. It was before they issued DFOTF in my opinion one of their best records beside of Screaming and British Steel. Those were the days. No Mobiles just headbanging 🤘🤘🤘🤘
'Priest on The Tube. It's so easy to forget (hell it was 40 years ago I guess aaaaargh) just how HUGE these metal bands were. You'd think the tube was all Billy Bragg, echo and the bunnymen and the smiths. But It was broad.
JP started a new sound and speed of Metal Hardrock! the songs and tracks beat all groupsat that time and to come hail hal Judas 4 -ever Greetz from 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪😈😈😈💣💣💣🤘🤘🤘💥💥💥♠♠♠♦♦♦
Impossible to imagine what metal would've been without JP...still haven't seen the entire live in Miami 1988 and Fuel for life 1986,i think its the very best of Halford and the rest
They took up about 3/4 of Tyne Tees studio in Newcastle that day. The Tube was a unique music programme in the UK in the 80's for those that don't know. So many bands got their break on the show and all the big established bands wanted to play on the show as well. It was completely live. I went there a few times and saw Ozzy, UFO, Bon Jovi and Duran Duran Great days.
They played in December 83 at the Newcastle City Hall . Quiet Riot support. My only Priest show and I was 16. The Tube was also filmed in Newcastle so I guess after the show they recorded this performance and it was shown in January. Anyway I remember watching this on the Tube on channel 4 in Britain. So I’ve only seen them once. I saw the best line up .
There was a video many years ago that I watched when I was just a kid, it had the full show of The Tube. The Green Manalishi just seemed to be left out from all of the other officially released videos for some reason from what I’ve seen nowadays. The Green Manalishi is bad quality, which is stupid. That video though, was very nice to watch the full show. I don’t remember, but they might have played Hell Bent For Leather in this show. That video got deleted, unfortunately.
Nice, I tried to learn a couple of these songs in a cover band back then, and like so many metal songs of the era you could get the rhythm parts but the leads reminded you not to quit your day job. We weren’t very good but man what a great time to be a kid, the 80s indeed ruled.
Rob points at me at the beggining of Freewheel Burning. Prior to going live we had a brief chat as I managed to grab one of the promo copies of Freewheel burning and after the show got it signed. Rob spotted it and asked me what I thought of it as they had a few night previous player the City Hall. Every now and again you can see a crazy guys hand with said single in it, what a night and what a story it was getting in as we didnt manage to get on e of the free tickets .
Good grief, I just found this tonight and it's pure magic to hear it again. This Judas Priest line-up and Paul Di'Anno's Iron Maiden were untouchable back then, a truly amazing time for rock music. Thanks for posting the video.
MG & PY both presented. I remember Motorhead, Twisted Sister & ZZ Top (I think) playing amongst others so the coverage of that type of music wasn't too bad.
My very first concert was screamin for vengeance and number of the beast when i was in 10th grade. I still have the iron maiden concert pin, says made in England on the back. Unleashed in the East is my stranded on an island with only one album, album! The best live show ever recorded in the history of music. Priest rules! I can't believe Glenn Tipton didn't start playing until he was like 19, crazy. I play guitar and Judas Priest has more songs in songsterr than any other band I've ever seen. I counted one night, I think it was 208 songs on songster. That's like a hundred more than the next highest band that I've counted. Glenn Tipton for president!
When 'Dreamer Deceiver' erupted into that heavier, faster part on the OGWT that sure was a taste of what was to come after with the Priest and what gave the world heavy metal. They are the pioneers and the true godfathers. Sabbath defined it, Priest refined it.
@@bloodboughtbigphilr8266you have to throw iron maiden in there somewhere but I do agree with you I was lucky enough to see Judas priest three times during the hell bent for leather tour and unleashed in the East tour will never forget it!!!💪
