@@adrianionobrocea1963 yeah Turbo was that glam pop time. I saw that tour, but never liked the album. Way too cheezy. KK even fluffed his hair. We definitely felt that management and the producers influenced the band to go the glam band way of the time. So glad Priest went back to some harder stuff with Ram it Down and Painkiller. Some of the songs are forgettable and not on the same level as the classic stuff, but much better than Turbo.

I always played Priest on the radio when I was a DJ but didn’t really appreciate them until I was in my 50s. I started digging deeper into their catalog. This song, to me, is a quintessential metal song. Painkiller, right now, is a daily listen for me. I’m now 65. I always got free tickets and backstage passes, and they are very nice. But I wish I’d appreciated them more as musicians. ☮️❤️

I have never ever heard criticism of the guitars and "tone" in this classic song, until now, and I first heard this song in late 1970's! I recommend trying Beyond the Realms of Death, with one of the greatest guitar solos ever and listen to guitar gods KK Downing and Glen Tipton and see if that is an improvement, with Rob on top vocal form as normal.

This album was very influential, as it eschewed the blues-rock of contemporary bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. It's considered the album that really introduced heavy metal. Yes, it does have some prog aspects. It's definitely worthwhile to listen to other tracks from this album. The live performance of this track from "Unleashed In The East" is considered the definitive version.

Halford's vocals soar through the heavens and take you on a pilgrimage of epic proportions! The riffs are thicker than a brick wall and the solos, oh man, on the deathless live classic "Unleashed in the East" they light up the sky like a molten inferno! One listen to that album and you might just find yourself experiencing the most tranquil slumber of your life afterwards, drifting off on a cloud of metal dreams.

As good(or not so good depending on your point of view) as the initial studio version here is, the definitive (mostly live) version from their 1979 album "Unleashed in the East" blows this completely out the water. Anyone who as never heard this latter version will never be is a position to understand why "Victim of Changes" is considered second only to "Painkiller" in the entire Priest catalog. It is DEFINITELY a MUST HEAR in order to size up Judas Priest as a whole.

If you want to go down the "hard rock"/"heavy metal" path of a song with an unintentionally quite humorous video like "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," check out "Mother" by Danzing from 1988. Black and white to emphasize the "serious" mood? Check. Jacked shirtless guitar player who looks like he could/should be the #1 contender for the WWF Intercontinental title? Check. Lead singer that has a constant menacing stare into the camera as he warns parents that he'll take out their daughter out that night but he's equally motivated to "bang heads" with her father? Check. I've probably already gave too much away but the video is "classic," especially for the 1980s.

I liked the arrangements and transitions in this song, I liked Halford's vocals, I like long songs, as for the solo, yes, there wasn't one as such, in such dark, gloomy songs you don't need it, guys, if you want to hear a powerful solo, definitely listen to Thin Lizzy's song "The Rocker", I hope to see your reaction to this composition!

Like the studio version, however slow & deeply '70's it is. But, really, the Unleashed In The East version is THE one. A bit faster, more aggresive, with Halford's voice being completely on point. Less bar biker, more savage & IMO, powerful. Would give you a whole new appreciation for the song, 4 real.

Hello Ryan, I thought I'd suggest another R&B artist for you to give a listen, if interested. "Bill Withers -Use Me (Old Grey Whistle Test, 1972)" (by the channel: Bill Withers) --This song is from his 1972 album called "Still Bill." The song was released as a single and became one of Wither's biggest hits. Bill Withers was an American singer and songwriter who was known for his smooth soulful voice. He brought a unique blend of soul, R&B, and folk to his music. Just as you said, this era of music will never be replicated again. I enjoyed jamming out with you two, thanks for sharing. peace out~
@MattB-h3n
@MattB-h3n 8 месяцев назад
This is a terrific suggestion for 1970s/1980s "classic" sounding R&B from that period. "Lean on Me" is likely Withers' most recognizable hit song, but he also scored big during the same time period with "Ain't No Sunshine." Other hits included "Grandma's Hands," "Lovely Day," "Just The Two Of Us" with Grover Washington Jr. (Don't want to tip too much but this could be a Ryan favorite), and "Oh Yeah!" An amazing fact about Withers is that, initially, he refused to quit his job in a factory after recording his first album for fear that even though his debut record had two hit songs (including "Ain't No Sunshine"), Withers was not comfortable enough with how the music buiness seemed to work to fully commit to only being a professional musician. A native of West Virginia, when Withers was inducted by Stevie Wonder into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Withers said "I don't think I've done bad for a guy from Slab Fork, West Virginia." 😀

Early Priest was very baroque miserable dark sounding with that great swag. They began in 1969, and they were from the exact same place than Black Sabbath and Trapeze and stuff. So yeah there re similarities. But Judas Priest went heavier and heavier while beign very versatile. If there was a more particular band that was one of the founder of metal that morphed metal into what we know with the seeds of thrash, power, nwobhm , its Judas Priest. Especially Sad Wings Of Destiny (1976)/ Sin After Sin (1977) / Stained Class (1978), in thoses, there are everything to come in desogn, principally, because they did things on others albums in that role with Killing Machine (1978), British Steel (1980) ....

That was the end of a truly *_legendary_* solo right there for me personally...particularly as a guitar player also. Respect the opinions, it is one of my favorite JP songs but do agree with others there is a 1983 live version that is much much better sound wise. What next? So hard to recommend as I would honest say there are at least 50 other JP songs that are well worth listening to. I think if you want yet another style of JP, either Turbo Lover (synth JP) or Desert Plains (the best cruise metal song ever). After those, you only have 48 more to get through. Added: If you decide to do Desert Plains, do both the studio/album version & this live version which will give you a sense of how awesome this band was live: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Es9LAHSqmc.htmlsi=FqZ2lBJArQQpSANh
