Hey there old-timer….. You might not be much more up there than me. Although I do wonder if they ever played it live other than the British Steel tour?
It was a standout song, definitely. One of my JP favorites. Didn't get airplay, even here in rock-heavy Seattle at the time. But you can bet it was blasting out of car stereos everywhere. :-)
@@Alaninbroomfield Definitely. The Rage from the same album is similar, but even better IMO. That reggae-ish bassline, riff and groove in the intro is so different for a metal band and so damn cool.
Right around the time Painkiller came out, I saw Rob Halford perform in a small rock bar in Phoenix called the Mason Jar. It was fucking epic. He performed about 15 Priest songs with a backup band. They opened up with Solar Angel. I was a mere few feet from the stage and grabbed the set list off the stage after the show. I will take that show to the grave with me. I also have seen Priest three times, the first being the Defenders of the Faith tour. Fucking love the mighty Judas Priest.🤘🏻
@@burkaytanr7778 Rob lives in Phoenix which is why he appeared in such a small venue. One night a lemo passed me on the road and the license plate said PAINKILR. Just had to have been his.
So many great songs and very few crap ( except quite a few on Demolition and Ram it Down). My top ten, not in order cos' that's way too hard. Green Manilashi Victim of Changes Saints in Hell Exciter Killing Machine Devil's Child Screaming for Vengeance You don't have to be old to be wise Steeler Blood Red sky Epitaph tour version
Same here. There are so many... 1. Desert Plains 2 Victim of Changes 3. You Don't have to be old to be wise 4. The Rage 5. Steeler 6 Angel 7. Alone 8 Painkiller 9 Beyond the Realms of Death 10 Solar Angels//Stained Class 11 Fever
Take it from an older guy like me. Life can be tough at times. You don't know when or how hard, we are all on different paths. But I can tell you that during my toughest times when everything else was crap, it was great metal like this that pulled me through. It never allows for depression like some music does. It is strong music, music that tells you to stand on your own two feet and don't take no shit from people. This is such a positive song in every sense of the word. And there will be times in your life where you'll need it just like I did
Well stated and understood! I'm over 50 and I'm not down very often--BECAUSE of Priest. The energy of their songs serves as a battery charger for my outlook on life whenever things even begin to get me down.
Ah ok, I thought for a second you may have been some younger gal. So you already know. I am 52. Well keep listening to metal and you 'll keep rocking out iin your 80's !!!
this is METAL, always was and always will be, i dont need the rock and roll hall of fame to tell me who the godfathers of heavy metal are, ive always known, PRIEST RULES!!!!!!!
One of those bands that you could see them play a song like this along with about 18 other rare others, without them playing their top 20 songs of all time (which would be tough to decide in the first place) and you could walk away from the show drained and completely satisfied ... that's how great they are.
Scott can't touch Dave's finesse when it comes to the classic Priest songs. Scott is really a double bass style drummer. And he has a hard time holding back on the classic Priest songs, all of which never had double bass. Nor do they require it. Scott sounds to much like a metronome or a machine/robot. But Scott does great for the Painkiller album. I just think he doesn't play the classic Priest properly. Especially the Dave Holland songs. (Which is the whole British Steel album).
Judas Priest is the reason why I was never in Metallica, Maiden, etc. Life is too short to drink bad wine.... Judas Priest is THE METAL GOD. Top of the Top - no other god is there.
@@joetrimble7953 To me, 80's Iron Maiden is the best single malt whiskey you can enjoy. Saxon and the inventors of thrash, Metallica too. Judas Priest are a great band who have produced some great albums, but to say Iron Maiden and Metallica are "blended piss" is very false indeed.
And 20 years later, there still here and forever will be The Metal God's . Just doesnt get any better than this.ThankYou Rob and the boys.Metal Forever🎸🎸🎸Up The Irons🎸🎸🎸
I saw Priest live some days ago, opening for ...Ozzy... They played with great energy and Halford's voice was very powerful that night! Priest as destroyed any chance for me to really enjoy Ozzy Osbourne show, and he actually gave a good show. After listening Judas Priest, it is strange to listening any other band. Ozzy can be the Prince Of Darkness, but Judas Priest are the Metal Gods, and no Prince could be bigger than a God...
+DjAsianTech I have to disagree with you on this one...He completely destroyed his vocal chords on the Ram it Down Tour in 1988. I think even him realized that, after that tour he started to get lazy on stage, like he didn't give a fuck anymore...there is some good bootleg footage up on youtube from the Ram it Down Tour. It's well worth it to check it out. That's where Rob was at his best...
+Metallion69 I don't think you can call him lazy on the Painkiller tour. However, his voice was kinda weak, yes, and the Ram it down album/tour + Painkiller album probably was the cause of it. But keep in mind that on the Painkiller tour, tensions were high within the band (leading to the departure of Halford a couple of years later) and that Priest just got out of a terrifying court case that was still haunting Rob a decade later.
DjAsianTech seriously bro did you even watch this footage im 27 in my prime I used too front a garage band for many years I still can't sing like this and robs like 70 years old id love to hear you sing this live just to see not trolling just being honest
i've seen a lot of hardrock- and metal bands in the 80's and 90's but PRIEST is absofuckinglutley one of the best!!!!!! for all musicexperts THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY REAL HEAVY METAL
saw Priest at Wings Stadium in 83'....played to 10,000 people , best show ever saw...perfection, heavy ...KK and Tip didn't miss a note...Halford was fierce...Iron Maiden warmed them up good
takes me back to being a young man and trying to find my place in this world. Metal gave me on outlet. There were others like me. 15,000 to be exact, when they came to my town.
Loved the lyrics of their songs, and this album was such a classic in my teens (my friends and I discovered it around '91). One of those albums where every song was good (Grinder was kinda lame but tolerable haha). Anyways, this song spoke to me, especially the end part: "I'll do as I please, fend for myself, call all the shots, roll the dice. All on my own gonna go it alone if I need it, then I'll ask for advice!"
Can't think of anyone who could hold a candle to these guys even after 40+ years! Thanks to Priest for being pioneers of metal and most importantly continuing in a manner that is nothing short of astonishing considering they sound better than ever!!
I listen to this probably like 100 times through the day well maybe not that much but i sure listen to it alot. This gives you such a massive amount of adrenaline.

Out of 17 JP concerts I've attended , one of the top 2 Priest songs I've ever witnessed live. Everyone there left with a neckache from all the headbanging. Definitely worth it.
There's something very special that Ian Hill's bass does for this one - right at the beginning, when he starts in. Thunderous, it defines this as an epic heavy metal hammering.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV, Romans 4:5, Ephesians 2:8-9, Jesus Christ is the only way.
I like the way these guitar players alternate lead solo playing unlike some other bands where there is a guy that only plays rhythm guitar and the other is one that plays solos (not that there's anything wrong with it)
Hard to believe that after all these years the god of metal can still hit high notes, you would think his vocal cords would be stretched out to the limit. That's why I have loved priest music since the the early 80s thier guitaring is unmatched when u play thier old stuff like stained class and my favorite LP hero hero on a stereo system of awesome sound quality, you get to hear the beauty of the twin guitars playing on and switching back and forth from K K and Glen, just no word to describe it!! It's jawbreaking. Long live the priest.
