Real meat from real animals and not commercially farmed shit that’s filled with soy where the animals are in cages and literally eat there own dead you know the same food man was eating prior to the industrial revolution
Dredd not calling him a rookie but a Judge when listing his murder as a crime is a sign of respect for the dead. Dredd in the comics would have done that very thing.
That exchange, and one other. "Mega City Municipal Code 4722: Illegal Use of City Electricity. How do you plead?!" "Raaaaaah!" "I knew you'd say that!"
Since there was a comic-book version of the Lawgiver that included that feature, they just had to use it for something. Once you make that choice, then shooting through something metal becomes your best use.
imagine you're real life cop commando , like a SWAT (or RAID , which is a special force from France my country) , and you hear gunshots in a building taken by a gang, you run to the room where the criminal are and then you see it has already been cleared by another squad. you asked them (or why not him if he does that alone like a baddass) what happened and then one of them answers you " *This room has been pacified* " or you're the who cleaned it and then the reactions of your colleague when you answered that
Honestly both Dredd movies are great on their own. Even if this version ended up as "not serious" there was a nice blend of seriousness and comedic moments to make it memorable. Sly was the best person to take on this role when it came out. The same way Karl Urban's Dredd showed us a darker side of being a Judge, it left me wanting more.
@diyambarcil2310 yeah a lot of people who rip on this movie and say it's horrible don't realize that early dredd comics had this same kind of atmosphere, Stallone did a really good dredd and so did the actor for the 2012 movie, they where just different versions of dredd.
@@sunrisejackdaw1779 but you have to know that (a) in the dystopian future street punks don't have access to better kit, better ways to hide the kit, etc., and (b) bullets are heavy and bulky. If they're able to feed cheap home-made flechettes into a spacegun and (because of the smaller size) have many more rounds before needing a reload or running out, flechettes will be better than bullets. 2000AD is cramped, they need CQB (close quarter battle) weapons, not weapons with a range that exceeds most lines of sight.
Hershey said they were shooting from the upper floors, but MegaBlocks are a kilometer tall. That's why they're called MEGA. Floor 40 isn't even halfway up. And the entry gates to them are wide enough for four lanes of traffic. Not giving the movie any props, since they're really more than 200m away, even on Floor 40 which is closer to 400m up. This movie really failed to nail the scale. Dredd is a superior film in every respect. Also, Karl Urban doesn't take off his helmet. Screw you for disrespecting the character, Sly.
They literally did the same scene in Dredd 2012 where he reads off his crimes and the guy says "let me guess, life" and he blows his brains out and says "Death" and its still fucking awesome. If they made 5 more movies where they did the exact same thing it would never get old.
That scene in Dredd 2012 did not go like that. The guy had taken a hostage and Dredd was negotiating with him to give up in exchange for a sentence of life in isocube, otherwise the mandatory sentence was death. The criminal balks because life in iso might as well be death.
@@rcslyman8929 Yeah Dredd wasn't known for his negotiations skills, he was pretty blunt. Still Dredd even in the 2012, had a sense of humor. Hotshot anyone?
@@libertyprime1614 I guess that's why I said they don't loose energy as fast as firing level. There is a slight gravitational assist. Otherwise snipers wouldn't have to adjust for gravity when shooting down hill. But that's reality. However, in the movie, they did mention flechettes in which case in this fantasy sci fi movie movie meets reality world, the 'rounds' would loose energy MUCH faster because the rounds are so small. 200 meter effective range sounds ambitious considering how small the flechettes would be. But fuck it, we're making movies real, here. Instead, we'll just treat them like they were six inch long fin stabilized nails fired from rockets like used in Vietnam. Now those bastards had a much more effective range, and Dredd would be wet paste. It's a fucking dystopian science fiction comic book made into a bad Stallone movie. Live a little. It's movie magic.
The costumes were kick ass. I like the realism they brought to Dredd, but these were so damned close to the comics (except the helmet... Dredd nailed the helmet).
"There shooting , 20mm caseless flechette rounds at 300m. The lethal effective range is 200m ..." Well except judge you see they are shooting straight down, if not for plot armor you are dead
I watched it back when I was in the first or second grade and I loved every second of it. Would watch again. Perhaps it's the dubbing which changes things.
Yep agreed this whole everything's complicated and the heroes are complicated and shit needs to be realistic is getting fucking old now honestly we fucking get it it doesn't mean you have to quit the cheesy action that's fun to watch
This movie tried so hard to be serious, but ended up being just absolutely hilarious. It's great for a bad movie night. Follow it up with Batman Forever for a perfect night of 90s nuttiness
Typical messed up voiceover. Remember when Rico activated the ABC Warrior? What did he said him? "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". German: ALLES GUT.. something bla-bla-blah.
Dredd may have followed up this whole thing by basically saying that it was the kid's fault for rushing in, but the way he finished out that sentence, that rookie's death hit hard.
Man, I remember I got this movie on VHS as a Christmas present as a kid. I watched it like 50 times. You can objectively criticize it of course, but nostalgia trumps all. I love the film. Great music, great set design, great costumes, Rob Schneider was funny, etc. Not a faithful adaptation, but a fun movie nonetheless.
I’ll admit rob Schneider was hella funny here. He’s hella out of place, but with wise placement and directing, I think he would of been a fine addition to the film. Nothing is wrong with comedic relief if it is done well.
@@USSMariner lol it’s hard to find tall buff actors to embody these buff muscular larger than life comic book characters. But what made this so ironic is that Stallone is perfect for the role, he can easily portray and embody the character, with proper direction and script. The only time Judge Dredd is Judge Dredd is in the beginning of the film, then the rest of it is just Stallone action flick.
Both movies are fun, u want family fun movie with a known actor and close to source material but not too gritty? Or u want a present day looking world with high violence and a true dredd from the comics? Either movie is the best, I like em
Because haters got triggered over "henowearhelmet". They do have a point(Joseph Dredd should under no circumstances *ever* show his face), but it's not a hill I'll die on.
@@HappyCynic The comics have a satirical element to them that Dredd 2012 didn’t have. It was too serious. The thing I like about the Judge Dredd comics was that while they were extremely violent, they didn’t take themselves too seriously.
Yes, to me this is dredd. The cockiness & the experience he showed. Its what makes him different from the other judge. He knows his stuff. The Karl urban dredd isnt menacing enough like this dredd. His voice is too soft and there's nothing that gives out the best judge vibe. Always pictured dredd as a hard ass marine kinda like voice. Yes, he stayed true by keeping the helmet, but I dont see the ruthlessness of dredd like in the comics.
How advanced was that voice recognition… like seriously how can Siri not understand me but when Sylvester is having a stroke mid sentence it still hears me
These outfits were designed by the late Versace. Is love that helmet to race in. I like both movies but Sylvester has more authority and command in his voice. Damn 20 years for resisting arrest? Lol
cmox yes mate but you dont have to comment on this 6 year old comment, he probably wont read it anyway. Next time instead of commenting on 6 year old comments you can keep your mouth shut.
You might like reading Robert Heinlein's "Starship Trooper". It is much better than the sh*tty movie. The armor described in the book is the coolest weapon ever.
I actually really like that little reference - in the comic strip every huge block in the city was named after some 'olden days' famous person. Pretty sure there were some amusing matchups during Block Wars!
@@JakkFrost1 It actually was; hose did very little to cover one's privates, hence early codpieces were meant to make one's, uhhhhhhh, 'tackle', less visible. As time wore on they came to have the opposite effect.
@@alessandroguarrera2203 early codpieces were protective armor for soldiers. Even loincloths were originally designed more for protection from the elements, and for keeping the dangly bits from being an impediment than for modesty. The same goes for the original purpose of female breast coverings. Imagine you've got huge breasts and they're bobbling about in your face when you're trying to bend over to forage for food. People didn't care as much about the nudity aspect in ancient times when these items of clothing were invented.
LOVE THIS MOVIE. The amount of characters they rammed into the script was crazy including an ABC Warrior. Just wish we'd seen Walter the Robot and his snitch Max
Man, I love the over-the-top cumbersome design of the motorcycle and the dystopian streets compared to the newer Judge Dredd. Tho I like the darker tone of the new one.
