Amen and hallelujah! For the last few years, when dealing with customers, I’m literally thinking, it looks like you have 2 whisk brooms on your damn eye lids! Like, how can you even see with that nonsense??? And can anyone explain what I can only describe as “the wig pat”? It’s almost exclusively younger women who will occasionally but repeatedly pat the tops of their head 2-3 times like they’re trying to make sure the wig is staying properly secured or something?

When the woman says she wants to, "Move on with [her] life," What she wants is for the consequences of her actions to be lifted. In short order, she wants unqualified forgiveness. You want forgiveness, go find a priest and make a good confession. American laws aren't based on forgiveness, they are based on justice. You take something, you give something in return, whether it be prison (time), community service (talent), or fines (treasure). Alternatively, you can wave some of your rights for a period of time (probation) as a statement that your crime has made you less dignified as a human being. You don't get to just move on. You have a debt to society and you must pay it. One way or another.

Exactly. You know that lady has done that all of her life - made excuses when she got into trouble and managed to get out of whatever consequences she ever had because her parents never really gave her any and she probably stole all kinds of things from them too. Maybe she even had to live with her poor grandmother and robbed her blind. She couldn't care less if that ring cost $100,000 she just wanted to pawn it for $20 so she could go run and buy a hamburger and she's gonna keep on doing whatever she wants to do. Or maybe she really does have it, because it must have been huge if it really cost $15,000. I wonder how she managed to get it off the poor old lady's finger. She absolutely needs to be on probation for the entire 8 years unless she can produce the ring and give it back, and she should get into trouble if she's working in a nursing home, probably trying to steal more things from those poor old people as well. IDK about the eyelashes, but they are definitely much thicker and more noticeable than most eyelashes like she's trying to look like a femme fatale or something along with her tight dress, which I guess is something you really should avoid in court and after her ridiculous request and her attitude, she deserves the comment from the judge that she should be a little more cognizant of her appearance as well as more aware of the ramifications of her actions.

I'm usually the LAST person to stick up for criminals, but in this case, the judge made the wrong call. There are TWO language barriers here: The young woman obviously does not have English as her first language, but then the judge throws legalese at her: "Who is the prosecutor? Who is trying to prove that you violated the terms of your probation?" Why would the accused even need to have that information at her disposal? The issue here is NOT the young woman's competency, but her confusion about courtroom procedure.

If she had truly developed a strong inner conviction & realization that her stealing an elderly woman’s engagement ring was “wrong,” she would have already either gotten the ring back, or made all attempts to get the ring back. The judge would not have had to explain to her that she would need to get the ring back, or make all attempts to get back, in order for her to “move on.”. It has been my experience that in most individuals who have a conscience, true guilt prompts a strong desire to right the “wrong” or somehow make amends to the person that they victimized.

The sentimental value of the ring is significant. Just as is the betrayal of trust. That cannot ever be repaid. As a senior citizen I realize how sad it is to work hard your entire life and suddenly you lose your independence (the ability to drive), you cannot perform daily activities without fear of falling (walking to your mailbox, etc) and total strangers are supposed to be assisting you ... yet they steal from you. So far I am totally independent and for that I am truly grateful. Anyone that scams or abuses the elderly, children or anyone with special needs deserve triple the usual sentence. They are not vulnerable by choice. As a society I believe we all need to realize everyone will either be elderly or deceased - there's no third choice. Karma happens!

@@galady8632what that woman did is truly despicable. I'm not elderly(35) but listening to that case made me picture my grandmother. While not mentioning it directly, the way Judge Boyd spoke of the case makes me believe that the elderly woman was most likely widowed since she only mentions "her ring" and most likely used "their" just to describe the elderly women. The thought of someone taking the memento that signified the promise of marriage my grandfather made to my grandmother(their marriage lasted 57 years) and pawning it for probably no more than enough for a quick wal-mart run makes my blood boil.

I feel soooooo bad for the last guy. He is so DEEPLY lost in the darkness of his addictions. That was me 3 years ago. Judging by how he looks here, I cannot believe that he actually made it to court. If he chooses to take the help and truly internalize it, he will look like an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT man next time he has to come to Judge Boyd’s court!!! He just got started, so there IS HOPE!! I am really rooting for him!!
