14:31- 2 deaths mean you are kicked from table (Titlecard) 18:08 - Weird reaction rule. When attacked, you can attack back as reaction. 22:46 - Critical failures break your weapon. 26:00 - Timer based off of a stat 33:12 - A bag of holding only holds 30 lbs (13.6 Kilos) and turns into a mimic if overfull. 44:44 - My pet raven was killed in combat (it was a non-combat pet) 51:29 - Hero rolls - roll with disadvantage but its an auto crit if its a hit.
Third Rule: Okay, cool. So then the DM gets, what, 3 seconds to figure out what any subhuman monster with an INT Score of 6 is going to do on their turn? Gotta have it work both ways, right?
I actually like that mimic bag of holding item, but as a separate item and not a replacement for the bag of holding. That sounds fun like if you just had them find a thing that looks like a bag of holding and it's nice and light for their characters to carry, but something just seems Off about it? And then one day they loot just one more thing or they're out shopping and [Witch Cackle] roll for initiative! Love that. Love that so much. I'm grabbing that with both of my yucky gremlin hands and running away now, byyye ♥

Penultimate Rule: That sounds to me like the DM read the rules about how the Beast Master Ranger's features work and decided to implement them, but did them totally wrong. If OP was a Beast Master Ranger, commanding their animal to perform an Attack, Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help Action costs them an action, while commanding them to do anything else costs nothing; there isn't anything that costs the Ranger a bonus action for their beast until level 7, where commanding it Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help costs the Ranger's bonus action instead of an action. But even then, it sounds like OP wasn't having it do anything but move out of combat, which doesn't cost anything ever.
First Rule: One of the tables I play at has this rule, as a joke. One of their players had two characters who died, and they left the table after the second character died, so I came in to fill in his spot. Oddly, I'd played in a one-off guest spot alongside the player who'd left, and the character I'd played in that one-off died offscreen afterwards. The character I brought into the game died a long time afterward, the only other PC besides the one whose player left to have been killed. So the question jokingly came up of whether or not I should still be at the table, since technically two of my characters had died at that point. I went on and made my "third" character for the campaign, which is on pause constantly; I've been able to play as the new character I believe 3 times over the last two years. I read the rule as it's written as, "You make a character, they die without being resurrected, you make a second new character, they die without being resurrected, you're out."
I'm a warlock and I have a pet familiar. He was created when I threw a fireball on a dying man, pig and raven. So now he's a pig with wings and the most annoying voice ever. He sucks at almost everything. Instead of nerfing him, my DM made my character basically donate her blood which increased his intelligence ridiculously. What monster have I created lol.
Fourth Rule: That DM gives the same vibes as stories of players who mainline fire-based magic, and suddenly every monster has immunity to fire damage. Bet he nerfed every spell he could in the same way, or just straight-up banned spells he couldn't think of ways to nerf.
40:46 i hate dealing with eating & rations specifically. at my tables i have like a weekly or monthly “charge” that just covers always having rations, maintained weapons, camp fire, water, etc. also i just ask my party to be reasonable abt their inventory. if they can explain how they have 4 great swords on their person, then let’s go
Final Rule: That is fun, but broken. A way to fix it could be to do hit confirmation: if you still succeed, make the roll a second time, and if the second roll is also a success, it's a crit. Otherwise, it's a normal success.
That third one. Oh god lmao. Putting a short timer on me would absolutely kill the game for me. My adhd brain does not deal with sharp time constraints well. I freeze! Guaranteed my character is going to stand there while we all get ripped to shreds.
The first rule I actually have implemented in a single game BECAUSE of narrative reasons. I can’t imagine kicking someone permanently every single game just like that tho 😬
I've been a lurker since episode 40-ish & as a woman living alone with ADHD I use your podcast to "body double" or, basically help me focus on mundane tasks that I struggle with such as cooking, cleaning, etc. I'm also currently packing to move to another country, so when I say it has felt far longer than a week, I say it with my full chest. Many takeout meals were ordered, and no cleaning (or packing) has gotten done. There is no other podcast that I click with nearly as much as yours. This is all to say, you were very heavily missed, though I'm glad you were able to take time off, all 3 of you (Bully included) deserve a break whenever you need it. But know you are truly and sincerely missed. Looking forward to your future episodes and streams, as well as finally getting some housework done before I move to get married and live with my soon-to-be-wife. ♥
