Imagine a woman who'd been told she couldn't have babies, who'd really, really wanted them all her life. Then theres a sort of miracle and she has a baby, and she holds this baby very close to her and walks around singing. 'Baby, Never let me go...'
The story about this song. There is NOT a real "Judy Bridgewater"-It is a fictional name. This is sung by JANE MONHEIT (American Jazz Singer) Written by Luther Dixon. There have been many songs titled "Never let me Go" going back over 50+ yrs, but all different from this version. The woman pictured on the cassette tape is the british actress RAE BAKER. The tape was made by the production designer of the movie, in incredible detail.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZxHIvxwJjYM.html The “Judy Bridgewater” song is Janet Monheit singing a cover of this Lloyd Price song specifically for this film.
It’s so plain. So banal. On a second reading it’s pretty much laid out there from the start; these are human meat bags, grown to be harvested. That ultimately the Hailsham “crops” were a social experiment to prove their humanity, that they had a soul, is just crushing. Their lives were never even considered real, they were make believe to be ignored. They were human organ farms, cloned, and taught to paint pretty pictures and write poetry. Never once is it mentioned learning math or science or history or anything beyond reading(approved literature) and art. But most weren’t. Only a few well funded schools were financed and given permission to try and prove the clones were human beings. And they failed. Imagine the multitudes of humans grown and harvested? How man children? How many infants? How many teenagers and adults in would take to fulfill the need for organ transplants! And then there’s the black market and even open market. If it’s sanctioned what’s to prevent a free market organ auction. And then a few hundred were allowed to be humans instead of chattel. It’s so simplistic but it says so much about our species’ devouring nature. Man that book messes with me.
@@QT5656 I think they're saying "You're lying" like "Omg no way!".... I've been reading about and coming back to this song every once in a while for 7 years and it just occurred to me that in the book the lyrics include a reference to "baby". But it's not in this video version. Guess I'm going back to google to figure out this mystery!
I heard the story on the radio a few years ago and am I’m reading it now after being unable to move on from John Irving’s ‘ A Prayer for Owen Meany’ 😂 😢
I am Brazilian. I watched the film 13 years ago just because I love cinema. I finished the book a few hours ago and it just destroyed me. Something in my mind related to the feeling of losing my 3-month-old niece in 2020. So many regrets and sorrows. Sometimes I reserve a moment for tears. Today was one of those moments. I loved both versions. The film was the first great performance I saw from Andrew Garfield. The book showed me the knowledge of the human soul that Kazuo Ishiguro has had since Remains of The Day. I will never forget it
The way that Tommy's metaphor about two people holding onto each other to avoid being carried away by the current but eventually have to let go mirrors this song perfectly was the most heartbreaking detail in this book.
It's a shame that they couldn't match such a simple lyric to the lyric in the novel . . . "Baby, Baby, Never Let Me Go." It's actually critical to Kathy H's interpretation of the song and this fictional recreation for the movie missed that point completely . . .
Dan Drake Actually this song wasn't written for the film. I found out it's a real old song, so they basically just covered an already existing song with the same name for the film. I heard it play in a pub the other day sang by a male vocalist which sparked my interest so I looked it up and it was originally sang by Lloyd Price.
I just thought that I'd add my two cents: There is some room to debate, and I think that it's a valid position to have, that there is a great deal of reference to memory throughout the book. Kathy is fairly insistent throughout the book that she may or may not remember things accurately, as they happened. She isn't a very reliable narrator. Her mis-remembering the lyrics of the song and creating her own would certainly line up with her character. I am not totally sure that it wasn't intentional. Another point, though, is that in the 2016 Japanese version of this work (series drama, I believe), this song is actually correct in terms of lyrics (though it's lightyears off in terms of the actual music). So, I think there is probably wiggle room there for a "choose your interpretation" there. I don't think it needs to be right or wrong, it may have been intentionally done and left for that reason. Great book though, worth multiple reads.
I feel like someone ripped my heart out of my chest and put it back again..I'm not sobbing because its back and I'm not going to die but it hurts so damn much and I'll never be the same...I feel empty I feel overwhelmed... This book will forever own a part of me.
I’m reading the book and just came across 😢the scene in which she is dancing holding the pillow and Madame is watching her and sobbing. Had to hear the song. In the portugueses translation, it says baby instead of darling.
I wanted to listen to this song since reading Ishiguro's novel... but I can't not listen to this song without crying because of it. Never Let Me Go is truly a powerful book, and listening to this song... I can share the same feelings as Kathy.
Um livro triste, mas ao mesmo tempo um livro lindo!! Me senti ali naquele momento, apenas observando Kathy dançando com o que há de mais puro em seu coração..
@@sohsiouxmii5945 The film tied it to Kathy's feelings for Tommy, left out Madame's reaction and Ruth replacing the tape, then made Ruth look envious and less complex than the book.
Like everyone else, the book brought me here. Listening to this song I can’t help but think of Kathy dancing with her pillow and it’s so haunting a beautiful. Kazuo Ishiguro created and sustained an atmosphere and tone in that book that completely enveloped me. I finished it last night and had trouble sleeping because I was so filled with emotion.
Darling, hold me, hold me, hold me And never, never, never let me go. Darling, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me And never, never, never let me go. Lock my heart, throw away the key Fill my love with ecstasy. Bind my heart with your warm embrace And tell me no one would ever take my place. Darling, tell me, tell me, tell me You'll never, never, never, Never, never, never...

i saw the movie without knowing there was a book. now im finally reading the book (loving it) and felt the sudden urge to listen to this. it's very good.
Fun fact, it exists but it also doesn't. Judy Bridgewater was invented by Kazou Ishiguro. So the song was actually made for the movie. Making it a real song but also a fake song at the same time :)
Everytime I listen to this, it makes me relax and the thought of young Kathy in the movie, embracing the music for the first time, makes my heart beat slow. Lol
I just finished reading the novel, and i thought "i'm finally gonna listen to that song". And then... "omg, maybe it doesn't exist". I'm glad to realize i was wrong. Pfiou. Thanks Kathy.
It's around 2-16 AM - And I'm watching a movie - Just saw the young boy give the young girl a tape And thats why I'm here to see what music was on the tape - And just found out they are born to ... Well I won't spoil it for you but what a terrible thought ! Thanks for sharing good night !
Man I wish I'd have listened to this while reading the book. It is not how I imagined it. It's so much better and adds to the heartbreak of the pillow scene
Hey I was hoping you could tell me more about the deeper meanings in this movie or book. I have only seen the movie, could you please tell me your findings?
@@ara9478 the movie never really focuses on Ruth and kathy’s friendship when they were young that much, and they also cut out the part where Madame was supposed to find Kathy listening to this song not Ruth, Kathy was supposed to be dancing with a pillow and Madame was supposed to find her, they over all missed a lot a lot in the movie like a lot and it was not Tommy who gifted the tape to Kathy she had found the tape herself and Tommy had helped her actually find it when she lost it in Norfolk my advice is if you liked the movie you should totally read the book it’s just amazing and I love it I just finished reading it amazing amazing book really love it:)
Nix Suttclif It takes all of oneself to ask for true love,.. but sadly is never coming back from the one you think that loves you,... Amazing is that we are who we love, not who loves us,....
