I heard that Judy didn't want to do this movie first because she was getting tired of playing the usual teenage girl but when she read the script, she fell in love with it and decided "one more wouldn't hurt".
She actually hated the script she thought it was stupid but mgm liked it and wanted her to do the part so she didn’t have much of a say since she was under contract apparently she was very difficult to work with at first but overtime she felt really beautiful while filming the movie and it became one of her favourites
@@marysaunders8079 do you know I just feel same thing happened haunted house movie about orphan Mystery Myself before I was in movie part in jump in Judy Garland she's was movie made
@@HOOG00 I’ve never understood the ugly duckling thing I’ve always genuinely thought that Judy was one of if not the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen she’s one of the few people I would actually consider a 10. I’ve always wished I looked like her. It’s sad she never saw herself that way just goes to show even the most beautiful people still have insecurities or are not seen as beautiful in some peoples eyes Judy was a beautiful person inside & out & deserved better then how she was treated :(
For sure she does. I think I've loved everything I've seen her in but this and little women (49) are my favorites for sure. Then again my grandma wasnt even born yet when this movie came out. And barely born when little women had. So I admittedly don't know all of her work, but what I have seen I've loved. She just embodies all the rolls shes in. Both as a child and a young woman.
God Yahweh loves, and offers Salvation Only by Faith in Christ Jesus, because we sin and deserve hell, but God who is Great in Mercy sent His Son Christ to Save us, he became man and lived among men, but without sin, and suffered the punishment of our sins, was filled with the Holy Spirit, gave his Life for ours, and was raised from the dead by the Power of the Holy Spirit, by Order of his Father, paying with his death for our wickedness, giving us Salvation only by Faith, not by works so that no one can boast. Well I think she was acting in the crying scene in case the director told her so something to make her cry yeah she doesn't seem to act I think she enjoyed this movie
Watching a vincente Minnelli film was like looking at one of the world's great paintings full of great colours and great composition. ANYBODY who thinks that film is not art should see this as well as minellis other films as well as the works of John Ford and Michael curtiz.THEY WOULD DEFINITELY CHANGE THEIR MIND. Judy garland and Margaret obrien where a great pair of performers. And they and Joan Carroll and Mary astor are the stand outs in that great cast. Don't miss this great film. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.

One of Garland‘s best performances! During the filming of Meet Me in St. Louis, Garland and Minnelli had an initial falling out, but they soon started a relationship and married on June 15, 1945. Liza arrived in 1946!
gosh! this was the very first movie I ever saw.it was a big deal ... my mom made it so. I even received the entire album (on 78 rpm's) It is a joy to see this now ... see it again.

It was composed circa 1903. The usual crowd complains that the song is "racist" but the two men who wrote the music and the words, Cole and Johnson, were: African American. :)
Am I the only one in 2022 who likes these old time songs i mean I like some of the new ones but I'm literally, attached to these old time things apart from execution which doesn't really happen nowadays thank God
Fun trivia about a fabulous movie classic: at 1:39 Margaret O'Brien's pink slippers magically turn into blue ones with pompoms!! How did that get past the continuity person? Or everybody else that was there, for that matter???
nah they change right as she starts kicking and the other ones prolly fell off her feet. but in character tootie would prolly just keep dancing barefoot, interesting catch
@@god47398 Sorry, but I have a very clear picture on my computer.....and it's just as I said. Best wishes to you. (In this time of such disagreement in the world, it's kind of fun to 'to have such a teeny argument!!) My best wishes to you!! 😊
Judy is so beautiful in this film. She always has been. It makes me sad that she has been told ‘fat and ugly’ consistently during her time working in hollywood and was told that she is not pretty enough. I remember hearing an interview with her one time that her being in this film is one of the few times she felt truly beautiful. RIP Judy. You deserve better.
I finally sat down and watched this film this weekend. Not going to lie. i didn't think it lived up to the hype, but thats not the same as saying it was bad. it was a good movie and Judy was great. Also Leon Ames was pretty good as the father.
I don’t know what circles you travel in but this is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made! That’s by people that actually watch films not just poo on Netflix. This is not an underrated film in any circles where people truly understand or appreciate film
I rented this on VHS years ago, but it was an interesting surprise that it was Margaret O'Brien who played Tootie, even though it made sense because the movie's old enough that she would have just been a little girl.
I caught the difference in Tootie's slippers too. I actually liked Agnes more in this film, and she also did well in "The Bells of St Mary's" with Ingrid Bergman and Bing Crosby. Much less of a "trained seal" actor as Margaret O'Brien can be.
All music in musical film is pre recorded by the actors and lip synced. This is true of any and all Hollywood musicals except the very earliest vitaphone music films
Not at all, though some like to see "racism" behind every rock and tree. The two men who wrote this song in 1902 by the way, Bob Cole and J. Rosamond Johnson, were both African Americans. The "Cake Walk" that Esther and Tootie are dancing was also African American in origin. Dance competitions were held a various events, like church socials, and the prize was: a cake.

That's nice but it has nothing to do with this video, your typical M.O., so here, let me help you: "But for Adam, no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused him to fall into a deep sleep, and he took one of the man’s ribs. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man, and Adam sang unto to her: If you like-a me, like I like-a you and we like-a both the same I like-a say this very day, I like-a change your name. 'Cause I love-a you and love-a you true and if you-a love-a me, One live as two, two live as one under the bamboo tree!"
I really don't like Margaret'acting in this film. She overacts the whole time (talking about the whole movie, not this scene). Can't understand why she was nominated for an Oscar. The other child actress that played her big sister (not Judy) could act much better.
I personally enjoyed Margaret's performance. I never once saw her as an actor -- merely the sweet, innocent child she was portraying. The scene where she was knocking down the snowmen, and the one where she approached that house on Halloween, both stand out especially to me.
@@drewsmith1383 Agnes was not perfect either. In the beginning of the film she threatened to kill and stab her grandmother - or was it the maid? - if anything had happened to her cat. And she and Tootie collaborated in those awful Halloween pranks. IIRC Margaret O'Brien was a big-name child actress at that time, and that's probably why she got the most recognition.
These lyrics are pure trash. I understand they were written in another era. However, for people to totally overlook the content and simply to gush and swoon over the actors and composer is ridiculous in this day and era. The mentality if it doesn't affect me it makes it okay is despicable.
