Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #MeetMeinStLouis
Divided into a series of seasonal vignettes, starting with Summer 1903, it relates the story of a year in the life of the Smith family in St. Louis, leading up to the opening of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (more commonly referred to as the World's Fair) in the spring of 1904.
The movie was adapted by Irving Brecher and Fred F. Finklehoffe from a series of short stories by Sally Benson, originally published in The New Yorker magazine under the title "5135 Kensington", and later in novel form as Meet Me in St. Louis. The film was directed by Vincente Minnelli, who met Garland on the set and later married her.
Directed By Vincente Minnelli
Starring Judy Garland, Margaret O'Brien, Mary Astor

God Yahweh loves and offers Salvation Only by Faith in Jesus and His Sacrifice, because we are sinners and deserve hell, but God the Father who is Great in Mercy sent His Son Christ Jesus to die in our place (As it is written in Isaiah 53 , Daniel 9...), and with His Birth, Life, Death and Resurrection He gives us Life, because He is God (as it is written in Isaiah that He is a Mighty God, in Micah that He is Eternal...), and when He dies instead of us, He who is Perfect pays our sin, only by Faith in Jesus and His Sacrifice, there is no other way, no other, and He Resurrected because He is God and He is True, and because of His Resurrection we have Hope to Resurrect ourselves too The Wrath of God fell on Him, so that it would not fall on us, and He offers us Salvation Only by Faith, because our works of justice are like filthy rags before a God Three Times Holy, God bless you....

such attires and parties didnt exist back then. Hollywood films didnt accurate depict American culture unless its western/historical film at this time. Only in the 50s to early 60s did they start depicting american culture as the rise of teenagers as a group started copying the way hollywood stars dress. In a way, this predicted the future by becoming the fashion trend starter for young people.

The Technicolor is absolutely gorgeous. It was an expensive process but the results are stunning. If you haven't noticed, often today's films are very dark and smokey. They have a dystopian feel to them. This reflects our very pessimistic and ugly attitude as opposed to the bright, colorful and positive film presentation of Americans in the midst of the greatest war in human history. And, of course, we are the ones drowning in our own affluence and obesity.
@edwinclements8112

Also, you have to consider that in that time Hollywood was being run by conservatives, who tend to be happier and more optimistic because they believe in a higher being (i.e., religious). Liberals took over in the late 1960s (aka New Hollywood) which is when sex/nudity, violence, and profanity started becoming commonplace in films. The reason why movies have gotten grim and depressing in recent years is because Hollywood has been usurped by leftist radicals (i.e., 'woke') who tend to be atheists and pessimistic (and unpatriotic). The only way you will see positive, hopeful films again is if and when Hollywood pivots back toward the right. Perhaps conservatives will recapture Hollywood in the 21st century? In fact, Hollywood was rather liberal during the silent film era, and the content got increasingly dark and risqué with the advent of sound in the late 1920s. This short period (c. 1927-1934) is known as Pre-Code Hollywood and scandalized society, which is why/how religious conservatives seized control in the 1930s via the Motion Picture Production Code (aka Hays Code) and reigned supreme for the next three decades (aka Hollywood's Golden Age).
@gunnarthorsen
@gunnarthorsen 11 месяцев назад
My mother was born in 1920. She grew up in a rural area, and once recalled that when she was a teenager, parties were called "play parties". A fiddler would go to a house, play for a while, then he or she and the young people at that house (and possibly another musician) would go to the next house, and then to the next house, picking up people along the way, etc. The last house on the stop was of course filled with people. For folks in rural areas, life in the 1930's really wasn't much different than it had been for people in 1903.

Every time I see this marvelous film, I ache with a desire to enter the screen and join the Smiths and their friends at their party. When Woody Allen built a whole film around that idea in "The Purple Rose of Cairo", he was speaking to a widely felt human desire to enter idealized moments created in dramatic art. I've seen theater productions where ensemble dance numbers on stage were so joyous that the happiness was infectious -- just as with the Smiths' party, you could FEEL the audience straining at the leash to go up on stage and join in the fun. THAT'S entertainment!

I still am amazed at how short Judy was. Pretty much everyone in this scene towers over her. But she had that voice and presence that made you watch her the moment she came on screen ❤

I knew I heard the melody between 0:54 - 1:02 and also 1:59 - 2:05 before!! It took me a while, but it's the same melody as the theme of Barney the Dinosaur. Just in case thinks this part sounds familiar.

Sing this to a tune of *Skip To My Lou* Someone unfriended me what shall I do? Someone unfriend me what shall I do? Someone unfriend me what shall I do? Treat it as a farewell present. Friends come and go all the time.. Friends will come and go all the time.. Friends will come and go all the time.. You should better move on..

I appreciate this movie because despite it taking place in 1903/1904, most costumes worn are from the 1890s. I love both eras but definitely prefer 1890s fashion

@@Engelbird lol true, but St. Louis was a boomin place back in the day like Salt Lake City, so im sure they had up to date fashion lol.
