I've had lights, fenders and the seat stolen from an ordinary mountain bike - which was locked up thoroughly in a highly public location. There comes a point - when you are using a bike for transportation - where you can't shop, because you are too loaded down with bike parts.

I guess you can only do one of them not both, so if you take your battery, no point to have AirTag, but if leave the battery, then better to have AirTag.

I wish companies would start adding better theft protection. LIke the bike and battery should be rendered inoperative if a dongle isn't present (I'm just as afraid of the battery being stolen as the bike - that battery is like $5-600!). I also wish it were standard to have a locking device for the battery - I think that's becoming more common, but it still freaks me out.

Don't try to get your home insurance to pay for your e-bike. In some circumstances they will drop you if you actually try to get it covered without going through the right hoops. Insurance is not for bikes, insurance is for things you can afford to replace. Yes some insurances will pay for things, but you're not getting it for free, you're just paying higher premiums and/or getting dropped. Take responsibility for keeping your bike safe, and save so you have enough money in case it gets stolen.

Registering the serial number with the local cops is important. When they bust thieves, they usually get a ton of bikes back. I have had the cops call me to tell me that they have my bike back.

I take my battery off, of course, then I secure correctly using four quality U-Locks, a motion alarm pin-lock through my rear brake rotor, two (or more) good cable locks, and two motion activated 100+db alarm horns. May seem like overkill, but I pull a trailer too (have to with all the locks!), plus I figure no matter where I park I want every other bike within eyesight to be an easier target. Prevention through frustration. I also am not ashamed to take up an entire bike rack or lock up to anything immobile right at the entrance to the store like display structures, no one steals the riding mowers so I lock to them and let Walmart security watch my bike as well as their mowers. I regularly park at Walmart, etc. and have never had an attempt on my CrossCurrent in four years nor had any employees say anything (not that I would care). As it's my only transportation, I can't afford it to go missing. I also get to know the homeless in my area and toss them a couple bucks if they are around when I lock up, and a few more dollars when I leave - best security ever if they know you and like you.

Bike security: 1. 2-3 heavy duty locks 2. always lock into bike rack/lamp which is connected with the ground 3. have used frame which looks like taken from the scrapyard 4. if an Ebike uses rear hub motor and has thumb throttle, cassette/freewheel/ or/and chain can be removed 5. password on the screen computer 6. use bike alarm 7. GPS tracker 8. Air tags 9. register for a database Have all parts of the bike mounted with screws and nuts. Whatever is mounted on the bike with an easy access will be stolen sooner or later. In addition, do not leave your Ebike unattended. If an Ebike has to be left for a longer time, always lock with multiple heavy duty locks (recommend 3) and never leave a battery on it. Never leave an Ebike outside overnight. If you cannot put it inside the house, deal with the landlord about renting a garage or if not, leave it on the back yard out of the road.

02:55 I'm kind of surprised the two metal terminals that connect to the battery pack don't have some sort of protection once the battery pack is removed. Is there any problems with corrosion on these terminals when left out in the rain? Also, wouldn't it have been better to offer a compartment for the Apple Airtag in the frame or the motor, since I'll be removing the battery whenever I chain my bike up?
@RoySATX
@RoySATX Год назад
I haven't had any corrosion, but be careful you don't short them out - either side, the capacitors in the controller are fully loaded and pack a punch. I only had my CrossCurrent about a month when I was wiping off some dust with my keys in my hand and apparently one of the keys shorted across the terminals, ⚡POW ⚡, a flash as bright as the sun and a pop so loud dogs were barking two blocks aways, nearly gave me a heart attack. Plus it screwed up my controller, blew one of the caps I think, and any time I gave it juice all the motor would do is shake. It was covered under warranty but I was treated like a criminal, and I wasn't even calling for warranty I was calling to find out when they would be back in stock. Anyway, be careful around the terminals, both battery and controller side. They really should come with at least a warning, I knew there could be hot caps and still accidentally shorted them, imagine being some unsuspecting Grandma and have that happen to you!

Recently had $10,000 worth of bikes stolen off a thule T2 pro hitch mount bike rack using their tiny cable lock that was part of the bike rack. I know no system is perfect. Just want to be able to leave them on the car for a few hours say at national park parking lot or the like. Bikes won't fit in the car with all our camping gear. Initial response: Got this bike for my friend. ru-vid.comUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ Delivery was fast. And the friend was surprised I would order it when she had never suggested she wanted anything but the pedal bike she had. She has now ridden the bike two times and gives it a 10 and says it is very fun. We have some hills in our town that are very challenging to climb on a typical bike. But tonight she went up with the pedal assist and loved it. I was way behind on my standard bike, huffing and puffing. Now she is no longer lagging behind me. This thing is powerful enough that a person could go around town without any pedaling. She likes to get some exercise so on flat ground she hits the red button to turn off pedal assist and only uses the twist throttle when she's in a tough spot. The bike looks good. It is really a very nice bike for the friend. Now for me, when I get an electric bike, I'm twice her size and will be looking for a bigger watt motor and battery. But this one is just wonderful for my friend. I am happy with this purchase.
