Where I grew up we had a tree like this grow in desert soil... I have no idea if someone planted it or it grew spontaneously but we used to eat from it every year and fill buckets with them to take home. I want to plant it again.
We are chestnut farmers who were asked to grow these by our Asian grocery store customers. Li variety is self pollinating but not all varieties are. I am trying to learn whether they need a lot of water to support a large fruit load, and your dripping wet leaves says maybe so.
From my experience once they're established, they don't need anymore water than an apple tree or similar fruit trees. Li is a great choice btw. Very reliable and tasty.
I’ve had this tree on our property but outside the fence near the driveway for 2 decades and I didn’t know what it was and never ate the small fruit. A woman from Senegal ask if she could pick some of the fruit and I said of course. She told me what they were. The fruit is much smaller than yours but very sweet and tasty. So glad I was made aware!
This is easily the second most common tree in Arabia after the palm tree. It is native to the region and people here have been cultivating it for thousands of years. Its pure honey can cost up to $80 a pound.
Can't imagine how you pick fruits on a tree that big with sharp thorns at the base of every leaf and all over the branches and trunks? I'm only able to pick off from the parameters on a 3 year old tree that's already reached 9 feet tall and a girth of maybe 5 feet in diameter. Would like to prune it to keep it short. Can I shear off the top of each vertical branch and still expect fruits next year? Mine is not from a cultivar variety. It is from a seed that was eaten and thrown out for compost.
Wow beautiful place I wish I had a back yard like that, I’ve planted 2 jujubes last spring but they both died 😬 I have to try again this coming spring!
Jujube tea. Dry them till they're wrinkly in the sun or a dehydrator. Add about 20 jujubes (whole) and 2 Asian pears (cut). Bring to a low boil, then simmer for 2 hours. A beautiful fall tea!! They're great eaten dehydrated as well. Then shrink wrap and store for a year or longer.
It can be grow in many zones ,jujube like the land where drainage is good, and Jujube can survive below 30 degrees.Sooner or later, the bigger the temperature difference, the sweeter.
dont bees feed off the nectar of the flower and make honey? isnt this the same tree also known as Christ Thorne tree or Sidr Tree (arabs use it for honey)
I have one in Southern California in a desert-like climate. The tree itself doesn't have pests, until the jujubes are brown. Our Argentinean ants love the fruit. I have to beat them to it if I want any. And yesterday a bee was destroying a green one. Your tree is beautifully shaped! Great job! I make a wonderful hot fall tea with jujubees and Asian pear.

Damon Riche, not only do jujube trees thrive in hot, sunny weather, they can tolerate more cold than many fruit trees, as well. Jujubes become dormant in the winter and have survived temperatures down to -28 Fahrenheit. Hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 6 through 10, they fruit best in areas with summer sun and heat, but they have been grown successfully in the Pacific Northwest.
Why do folks who do these channels, not discuss what zones these can grow in, their different varieties (there are several for this plant) and when they should be planted, watering, and pruning?

It's name is mentioned in quran also...... Prophet Muhammad pbuh saw this tree in skies he described that It is a very large tree, its roots are in the sixth heaven and reaches up to the seventh with beauty that no one can describe as the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam said, he saw it in the seventh heaven. Its leaves have the size of the elephant ears, its fruits are like the large jars. Great rivers with great tastes come out of its trunk. The speedy rider would walk one hundred years in its shade, yet he would not cross it due to the vast leaves and branches it has. It is covered by golden butterflies and great lights which would increase its beauty. Also there are angels who are making tasbih (saying subhanallah) over there. Sidratul-Muntaha is specified with three properties: The long shade, the good taste, and the nice odor. * The Prophet (Sallallahu ^Alayhi Wa Sallam) also saw the Throne (^Arsh), which is the ceiling of Paradise. The Throne is the largest creation of Allah in size; Allah did not create anything bigger in size than it. The seven heavens and the earth in comparison to the Kursiyy, are like a ring thrown in a desert, and the Kursiyy in comparison to the Throne, is like a ring thrown in a desert. The seven heavens and the earth in comparison to the Throne are like a seed of mustard compared to the ocean. Allah created the Throne as a sign of His Power and He did not create the Throne to sit on it. Allah exists without being in a place, He is not an image or a body and is not bound to a place or directions. Allah created the Throne to show His Power. It is carried by four angels, and on the Day of Judgment, it will be carried by eight. The Prophet said he was permitted to speak about one of these angels who carry the Throne. In describing this angel, the Prophet told us the distance between his ear lobe and shoulder is the distance a fast-flying bird would cover in 700 years. We ask Allah to bless us with seeing it and eating from its fruits and from the fruits of Paradise by the virtue of our Prophet Muhammad sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.
