The fact that Gege spent a chapter on yapping about simple domains and using his characters as mouthpiece to argue with critics with only 2 chapters left is crazy

The ending was more rushed then anything,the fights got so much more screentime then the conclusion. Especially after sukuna's death,the timeskip and all that blabbering about SIMPLE DOMAIN. Focusing on irrelevant stuff instead of actual good things he could have focused on,only thing he focused on was sukuna's conclusion.

@@Friedrice885 I mean the last few chapters are essentially a passing of the torch to the new generation and rounding out yuji's character. His motivation for being a sorcerer is constantly called into question throughout the series so its nice to see him adopt a bit of Gojo's perspective at the end. I kinda agree that the stuff with simple domain was unnecessary, but between that and the end of basically every major family it also reinforced the concept that the jujutsu world was corrupted and conservative to a fault. If that isn't symbolism I don't really know what is.

I think underwhelming is a more fitting word than bad, and it doesn't really detract my overall enjoyment of the series. The anime will most likely deliver a more promising execution than what we can perceive from the panels. Hidden Inventory and Shibuya from manga to anime are a night and day difference, for example.

Sukuna changed after dying because he had Yuji outclassed in every stat and Yuji still won by relying on others and not giving up on megumi. And it’s not like Sukuna did a full 180, he basically just acknowledged that other world views are also valid. There’s more than one way to live. He didn’t think “Yuji was right and I was wrong” he just thought that maybe there’s more than one right answer and by going north he decided that next time he’ll try to come to a different conclusion.
@cam10_0
@cam10_0 День назад
Not that I think it was a great ending overall, but I did love sukuna and yuji’s conclusion. And that’s the most important thing so I’m at least somewhat satisfied. Still hoping for a part 2. If there is, this could become a great ending instead of a serviceable one.
@ProbablyPretentious
@ProbablyPretentious День назад
I get what you mean (and what Gege probably meant), but I looked at Sukuna as more than that. His whole thing was pride and selfishness, I don't think he should've conceded that easily, just because he lost a 1 vs 63618 fight. And even if he did, the whole thing needed more time, a LOT more than what it got. Like I said in the video, the concept is fantastic, but the execution was severely lacking.
@cam10_0
@cam10_0 День назад
@@ProbablyPretentious for most things you said, I agree with the sentiment. Most things in the last 5 chapters needed more time. But for sukuna’s change, there was setup at least 23 chapters ago, in 248. Possibly more than 50 if you consider the line that Sukuna kept thinking about, “the one who will teach you about love is…”. 248 showed us that by sharing a body with yuji, sukuna saw for the first time that someone else had an ideal that was different than his, but just as unshakable. Yuji never giving up on megumi, and eventually reaching him, and even reaching out a hand to sukuna, cemented in sukuna’s mind that it was possible for him to have taken a different path in life. He was too proud to accept Yuji’s hand and change his path in his current life, but it was enough to make him accept that maybe hedonism wasn’t the absolute truth that he thought it was, and try for something else in his next life. I think execution was lacking in a lot of aspects of the ending and a lot of things needed more time, but sukuna’s conclusion is the one thing that I thought was fantastic in concept and execution. Art is subjective though, and I’m always glad to hear your takes👍

@bu11ymaguire
@bu11ymaguire 20 часов назад
@@ProbablyPretentious This last chapter completes sukuna and doesn't contradict what he did and said previously. with the latest chapter I see loads of possibilities for sukuna in a completely new light. A boy who was cursed by his surroundings so much that he encapsulated that persona. Its like if Naruto turned a villain and committed so many atrocities to the point where he feels like he is nature's divine wrath on life. Sukuna's atrocities will also be seen in a new light. But even sukuna doesn't care about redeemability. He is not somebody who is completely changed but wonders about the second path because losing meant death and now he wonders after seeing what would happen if he took the second path. Maybe at the end it wasn't as fulfilling as he thought his end would be. Its a brilliant characterization and subversion of tropes. We thought sukuna was kurama but he was Naruto who didn't have someone to lift him up and turned out to be like this after decades of slaughter.
@just1narcissist
@just1narcissist День назад
The conclusion in itself was nice imo but the build-up to that was just really stupid and pointless. Almost every chapter after Sukuna's demise consisted of irrelevant topics that added nothing to the story. It was more like "bad writing" than a rushed ending. Gege should've prioritised highlighting the major potholes near the end of the series.

I’m still trying to figure out what was the point of having Kenjaku in the last chapters with a censored face. It’s obviously him because he’s the only weirdo with a hairstyle like that. So… is he just a good guy now because Takaba made him laugh? He gets to avoid any kind of punishment for a thousand year long mass murder spree (including causing literally every death we saw in the series) for the sake of experiments? No more interest in the culling games or the merger? It’s just weird.

It definitely felt like Gege just wasn't that interested in writting the story anymore, checked boxes and settled on a happy ending. Gege has mentioned doing another project for a while. The problem with the series isn't really that the writting is bad, it's that the series is too short and Gege set up stuff that he didn't delve into. Pair that with the brakeneck speed that doesn't really allow the characters to just breathe or for Gege to delve into their characters in a focused way. Like Yuki for example.

Sukuna's death was actually fitting if kind of think about it he was a hateful parasite and was defeated by a teenage boy that was his prison and his mere existence is a slap in the face of his worldview embodying everything he considered weak and being pityed was actually the greatest insult towards him and in the end he begrudgingly admitted he respected his commitment to his ideals and died in the most humiliating way

@rohannborah9025 19 часов назад
Though the execution was a bit lacking I agree with you, a lot of people that think the conclusion was trash and called Sukuna "fraud" for fighting with Megumi's technique really miss the point with is character. They thought he was the coolest and the "rawest" despite Gege continuously showing how pathetic and petty he actually was, they remember how he defeated Jogo and Maho without breaking a sweat, fucking mahito off with only a look, his almost poetic dialogues etc. They really overlooked a lot that makes him a disgusting curse, stuff like laughing with mahito over Junpei dying in helpless Yuji's arms, revealing to Yuji that people died on Yasohachi bridge was because he ate the finger, cutting Jogo for not kneeling low enough, killing the girls for bargaining with him, messing with Kusakabe and Panda just cause he can, decimating Shibuya just for Yuji to feel responsible, again laughing at yuji with Uraume, getting pissed that Yuji pitied him etc. All that being said, I still think he is pretty fucking cool because of he is so nonchalant about everything he does, he's dgaf attitude, he's character design, but that is not all of him. He may look cool to us but as a living character his personality was very petty, that is the reason Yuji pitied him and wanted to give him a second chance. People just take things at face value and run without actually looking into it and when something happens that doesn't match with preconceived notion they freak out and throw around shit like "fraud" "clown". I also think the anime blew up his coolness out of proportion (which I love and it's not a negative) with the music, the animation, the storyboarding around his scene, his VA and the general presentation had the "rawest aura" around him. That's you see so many Sukuna pfps everywhere, they have this image of him that is not true to his character. His last confession to Yuji was similar to how he acknowledged Jojo in Shibuya and his last talk to Gojo in Shinjuku. He absolutely despised Yuji more than anyone because Yuji tried his best despite being so weak, and that weak "brat" was his prison. Yuji always overpowered him eventually and Sukuna hated it, that why he looked for a "better" vessel in Megumi. Sukuna knew Yuji in and out, he knew how fragile his soul was, how hurtful he was of others suffering, and to Sukuna those ideas were weak and pathetic. Sukuna hated that Yuji that he still fought, he could never acknowledge Yuji cause that would make his ideals of strength somewhat wrong. But in the end he did just that when he lost, Sukuna wasn't even taking 80% of the last fight seriously unless he had to fight Yuji, yes everyone chipped away his hp but it was Yuji that truly defeated him. He acknowledged Yuji in the end and his fate.

Gege has said in the latest author comment that he hopes the readers will continue to support him in his next challenge. This might just be a new manga but it can also be a jjk related thing. The main conflict wasn't between selfishness and selflessness, it was between individualism and colectivism. Yuji didn't defeat sukuna because he was stronger, he did it because he had the help of pretty much everybody. That means that sukuna might try to not live only for himself but to try to "play well with others" in his next life. This plays into why we had so many philosophies but only one remained standing. Yuki and geto were both interested in getting rid of curse spirits, but they didn't pass on their will to others (geto kinda did but they all died). Kenjaku wnated to create the merger, but he didn't pass his will onto anybody else except sukuna. Gojo however wanted to get rid of the individualism that made him be a tool, and to foster an entire generation of strong and competent sorcerers. His will has been passed on to all his students and friends, and they collectively managed to defeat sukuna.

15:22 I think I have an answer for what changed when Sukuna accepted Yuji. It’s not as simple as “Sukuna lost and Yuji’s strength won, so Sukuna accepts him now”. There’s a more thematic reason for it I feel. As we’ve seen, Gojo had to humble himself in order to gain some sort of connection with his students, while he couldn’t full on connect with them, his role as a teacher through humbling himself helped him to connect with them in a way where Gojo continued to be a selfless individual who cared and fought for others. Sukuna on the other hand never cared enough about others to humble himself the same way. He always understood selflessness and why people engaged with it, but he simply never cared to humble himself to get to their level. When Yuji and his friends beat Sukuna, they FORCED him to humble himself, they showed him what it was like to be on the level of the people below him. Through this, it makes sense why Sukuna would change his world view so drastically, he was able to see things from the perspective of others, and this lead to him to not mind living with others rather than cursing them. There’s always been a clear thematic connection between unstoppable power coming with solitude, so logically, it would make sense for this humbling of Sukuna’s power to change his world view on living with others instead of in solitude.

A lot of the endings of popular mangas are not considered good. Me, I find a lot of them to be perfectly okay, for example one of the most recent ones with MHA being fine. I think JJK is one of the few manga endings I actually find to be complete shit (I'm really talking about the 5-10 last chapters). It feels rushed & badly written, the little amount of time we have to close the story is used on stuff that amounts or means nothing, The final showdown was the most anticlimatic thing ever, etc... I could keep going. The actual final confrontation was Gojo vs Sukuna and actually hooked me. The ending of that fight was actually really good and broung interesting topics.

0:42 layers of depth and complexity???🤣 no repercussion of shibuya incident on the rest of the world, no reaction of any normal Japanese citizen too, main villain is bland and much much more .. jjk definitely is fun.. but thats it! Chainsaw man is much better than this, it has repercussions for all the shit that happens in the world, the whole world is affected by devils and it is shown. We see public protests , prime ministers , assasins from the whole world. I mean CSM is better than jjk in every single aspect.. why did i use CSM as a comparison? These two use the inner demon trope and have curses and devils and are based in real world IMO😂 (Hidden inventory was definitely well written tho)

The ending was an outline more than anything. We could've easily had another volume's worth of chapters to let it breathe more. It's definitely not the worst shounen ending I've read, that honor goes to Tokyo Revengers. MAPPA has a huge task ahead of them. One has to wonder, though, who wants to work on that project given the hellish conditions of season two.

The thing is people comments are so dramatically toxic towards gege work that they sounds quiet beefing. The over all show jjk. The story in general make sense with flawlessly logic continuity from the beginning to now and it stays to his true logic. Gorgeous thematic and philosophy wise writing without breaks, epic hype continuisity, loveable characters, characters returns are awesome especially todo one(aside nobara that it's surprising in both confused and happy). And on ability, he's genius for it in my opinion. But the only flaws is lack of character interaction. And leaving questionable number of questions without any answer which some of them are irrevelant. Basically you see a professional artist showing his process. People generally use to make rough sketch, clean sketch and line work etc. But the artist just straight up use the rough line and went to coloring and yet result still masterpiece, and leaving people Perplexed with many questions. Or we could say professional artist says I did this and this but people still have more question but the artist never answer again. Jjk writing is gorgeous since the beginning to now but it has empty space in between every chapters. Those empty are basically chapters dedicated for the explanation. People instead use word bad writing and shaming people who who love it without proper reasons, that rather become more personal than facts. The "unfortunate lost opportunity" or "a very cool idea not realized" these type of words is the right word to make yourself understand rather conclude your paragraph sentence with "bad writing" and yet the reason of major tappers "is gege losing the opportunity of going more deep into it the specific thing" PP did explain well. Thanks you gege

14:42 in this panel, sukuna was kinda saying "im amazed how you take this bs(aka the thematic of yuji emphasizing or pitying him) too this point" This is how I think ofc. He never admits the defeat until In the last chapter deciding to go to north, by becoming a new person. Very sweet ending to show at the end, sukuna accept his defeat and become a new person like gojo.

Just 'Skirmishes' These guys are all burnt out and have had enough. Oda being on the One Piece Live set is kind of like his little holiday from writing I reckon, it's a great excuse but damn if anyone has earned it - It's definitely him.

I think the ending makes perfect sense but some aspects of it were very rushed. Gojo's legacy and hope for the future of jujutsu world lives through Yuji (Yuji has powerful allies that can help him improve the system - something that Gojo always wanted. Gojo got his arc nicely wrapped back in 236 and I still think he got the most meaningful farewell out of all characters along with a few earlier characters like Nanami, Geto, Mahito and Jogo). I never thought Sukuna was truly enlightened and unbothered because he was very clearly bitter about Yuji at an abnormal level for him. I've always known Yuji will be the one to defeat Sukuna since Yuji's main power has always been connecting to others, something that Sukuna rejected and Gojo couldn't achieve after Geto. The way Sukuna was losing his unbothered mask whenever Yuji was involved (and the fact that it's the son of his reincarnated twin he ate that kinda predetermined his path and existence), him saying things like "I was a cursed unwanted little wrench", and just how he was convinced that love and connections are unnecessary and weak but got defeated by the representation of this exact thing, it would make sense Sukuna would at least consider a different path when the previous one failed. I agree that it should have been explored more during his fight with Yuji and not just by him being bothered with everything Yuji was/represented. My main critique is that the pacing of the last arc was rushed and a lot of other characters didn't get enough attention to emotionally connect to their journey and conclusion. I wish Kenjaku had a better ending to his arc or that we could have at least seen the consequences of his merger plan's failure. Megumi's arc was underexplored and jumped right to a disconnected "happy" conclusion. We never got to properly know or connect to some newer characters that showed up for Culling Game - there was no time to develop them. All in all, I think the problem with everything after the Shibuya arc and Sukuna vs Gojo was pacing. Gege still managed to explore major story themes, the main plot and conclusion made sense but the journey was rushed and skipped some development and exploration for some characters. Overall, I believe the entire story is incredibly captivating and has held people in its grip for years but I agree that Gege was burned out and was in a rush to finish it. I still think Hidden Inventory arc was his favorite (he never really put as much effort and time into exploring characters not only on thematic but emotional level but the scale of that arc is also much smaller than the ones after that).

17:40 that is copium, an ending is very important to any story no matter what genre or style or else the author can make bullshit stuff up whenever they want without following up on it. I can agree not everything needs to be answered, but JJK have a lot of critical stuff that were missing or didnt fulfill on. I agree an ending shouldn't take away all enjoyment of a work, but JJK is not even a masterclass storytelling from the beginning to the mid point even. There is a lot of stuff that makes zero sense if you put some logic in to it, like how Geto's dilemma leading him to become a villain made no sense. He had an third option other than genocide which would be giving up on becoming a sorcerer, or he could have gone full rogue against the whole time vessel association (would have made him a far more interesting character and a morally grey one too) rather every non-sorcerers since they could be trained to not leak cursed energy. Despite this Geto gets offscreen taken by Kenjaku after the JJK 0 which is just silly and bad writing, if Gege wanted to lead to this conclusion there is so many better ways to handle this "takeover" without it being an asspull. This is just one out of many problems, even the way how someone gain cursed energy in itself is a plothole in the worldbuilding given how easily it could be abused..
