10:45 its funny to me how after almost 3 minutes of answering his question he was just waiting to say "can i ask it again" i dont think he realized she already fixed his question lmaooi
But female sexuality IS taboo, it shouldn’t be, but it factually is in our current society. That’s why I think the comparison between female sexuality and cannibalism is spot on, and the movie allows you to understand how society makes it taboo and why that’s nonsense. But I agree that the starting point has to be that society, not the director, considers female sexuality as taboo.
I loved the ending. What binds so many characters together is the universal truth of personal handicap. It can be physical, emotional, or spiritual. The cannibalistic acts were offset by a sense of resignation but also empowerment, like a Yeah, no one should have to go through this, but we’ll cope despite what it does to us.
Withholding a more typical romantic angle from the script was an excellent choice. This had the leading lady making decisions and evolving for her own reasons without being constrained into the more selfless areas we all have to find in the name of relationship compromise. 'Coming of age' movies starring girls usually fall into the 'Pretty in Pink' category, where the lead must win over the heart of a boy in order to establish herself the 'hero'.
this film is so beautiful..such a great story...twisted ending , the soundtrack is even beautiful..i dont understand how ppl were apparently fainting and shit they must have weak ass stomachs
I always appreciate artists that aim to provoke emotion and are honest that that is what their art is for. It requires thought and it will trigger thoughts yes, but the reactive emotion is the base of art i think, she seems aware of this and it’s just nice to hear her speak on it. I know many artists acknowledge this and it’s not special, but i just like her a lot I guess is my point. She does the thing and I’m glad
Wow the French blew my mind again. This movie is astonishing! It's now my favorite after Ameliè. BTW does anyone know what that film was that she mentioned at the end was the top French film and had lots of genres? It would be great to know... thanks.
BokChoyBoy _ wouldn't u drive though? i had to, this was playing like 1 hr and 30 mins away from me and it was totally worth it....such a beautiful film...especially the ending, so twisted...
If you think he had passive aggressive manners I challenge you to go outside because you've lost touch with reality. It's a discussion, he's trying to put his point across and seems clearly welcome to being proven wrong.
Raw got really good story telling and execution all of it every scene she's very authentic and unique coming of age movie such a shame it's not appreciated at all, it's not even on focused on acts of cannibalism it has it's tension.
She's very gorgeous and very smart. Highly articulate and eloquent in English too, especially impressive given it's not her first language. The film was very good indeed. Not brilliant but very good. I look forward to watching her develop as an artist and an auteur plus seeing what project she brings to the table next. A part of me hopes it is not a horror and something totally different.
SPOLER TALK , WATCH MOVIE FIRST : who thinks that it is in fact Justine who've eaten Adrian and not her sister, i'm pretty sure the sis took the blame for her to protect her ...
That's what I thought at first too. However, the sister is the one with a (literally) bloody mouth. Justine only has the wounds from the day before. And she also acts very blaming and angry towards the sister, who acts ashamed/apologizing. But it is definitely open for interpretation in that way! The sister could have staged it to take the blame while Justine was sleeping. As a way to 'repay her moral debt' for pressuring and humiliating Justine and getting her into all the trouble.
Carmichael K. Ah yes I called someone a boomer because i... listen to tyler the creator? No. The person i called a boomer was spouting reactionary nonsense
Someone like her I could definitely see doing superhero movies on the side, not that establishment woman who did wrinkle in time! Raw could be seen as a superhero movie somehow, w customs and all.
I thought this film was weak. Shes not saying much , the film isn't saying much. Building empathy for a cannibal does not say much. The themes in this film were too weak and shallow for my liking. Grazed the surface, and lacked artistic merit.
So the interviewer says the movie is funny and sexy. You better get yourself checked out then. The question is: was this movie a warning or propaganda from the 'New Age' types? For me it is a load of propaganda and the ending proves it. Mind control, groupthinking, gay-sex, bi-sex, bestialism, rainbows, unicorns, drinking blood, eating human flesh, combined sex and violence, it is all shown in this shocking and repulsive flick. All signs of our time, soon our world will look like 'the walking dead'. And I don't write from a religious point of view, just common sense.
Jean, first of all, I didn't say the movie was badly made. On the contrary, the movie is interesting in a morbid kind of way. The fact that people say its sexy though, makes me worry about today's society. I did not find anything sexy about blood, paranoia and cannibalism, do you? The topic is what bothers me. Cannibalism and bestiality is the topic you say. I ask Julie the following: what is the point of the story if not to shock? To raise awareness about people who want to eat others or have sex with animals? Do you think that people get the message in the end when the family turns out to be cannibals and have passed this hobby onto their kids somehow? As if eating human flesh is a danger you can fall for and that it can be passed on genetically? I mean, do you know anybody who has this craving? Does she know this will become a problem and wants to stop it? What's the point? To enjoy a well made movie is not enough for me, the message, especially when you throw in that many taboos, is much more important. So what are we to make of it when the creator says the goal was not to shock? What is the goal? Remember that a lot of kids will see this movie and will not be able to place it correctly. Maybe they will get the wrong idea and in some twisted way find it interesting to try some of their own fingerflesh. Sexy right?
I would not use it as an argument, just an observation. If you put your sick fantasies on film, you have to bear the responsibilities though. You said the topic was bestiality, not me. I mentioned that it comes by in the movie. When the girl is lying on the bed, her dog checks out her vagina up close. As I said before, I never noticed that cannibalism is a problem in society, maybe I missed something. If it is used as a metaphor for sex, what's the deal with her parents having the same problem? Craving for sex? Strange metaphor to use. The whole movie is spun around the eating of human flesh, so it must be an important thing for Julie. I just don't see the link with sex, other than to break a supposed taboo which is not a problem in society at all according to what I have experienced in 40 years of life. I don't dislike gays, the problem I have is the pumping up of it sensationally within movies and media. Using them to change society along with the transgender, gender neutral and other fringe groups. Your last point is taken, but I don't see that message in the storyline and the ending doesn't help at all. Just my opinion. I would not watch it again. For me, this movie is pointless.
