Australians are divided on Julian Assange’s new-found freedom.
The WikiLeaks founder is back home after his release from prison on Wednesday.
He plead guilty to a US charge of espionage, relating to the release of secret documents.
Assange hasn’t spoken publicly since his release, but supporters are celebrating his return.
Al Jazeera’s Danielle Robertson reports from the Australian capital Canberra.

Note that Assange is still alive. Legal procedures were followed by all parties. (Yes, you can dispute them. But they were followed.) If Assange had done what he did to Russia rather than the US, Putin would have eliminated him. Name the Putin opponents who are currently in prison. You cant? Navalny killed in prison we dont know how because the Russians refuse to allow an autoopsy. Prigozhin shot down in his private jet. Nemtsov shot down by Chechens working for Kadireve working for Putin. Anti-Putin reporter Polikovskaya shot dead in her apartment building. (Following symbolic habit, the shooter left the murder weapon, the favorite Makarov 9mm, next to her head.)

Fortunately Putin can't request his opponents (that are not even Russians) to be sent over to Russia so that he can give them a 'fair' trial. Imagine if Putin asked for an Australian to be sent to Moscow, for exposing crimes Russian soldiers did in Ukraine. And then imagine that Australian being kept in cell for years pending extradition process.
