It looked magical to me as a kid. He didn't look strong in his movements but he had that eraser. It's great see how sharp he is and he looks incredibly healthy.
I met JJ in 1990 in San Diego and I shook his hands which were huge and I thought Imagine getting hit by them fists, shit. He signed his autograph and wrote One God One Love JJ MW Champ.
The great Julian Jackson, there have been fighters rated above him in his divisions over the years but not one of them could consistently do what JJ did, produce a bunch of paralysing KO's like that. Unbelievable power and tremendous hand speed too.
+martin mullen He didn't really absorb much punishment other than the McClellan fights and those didn't last long once he got hit. I loved watching him fight.
Truly a class act and great fighter who produced some of the greatest one punch KO's of all time. this is the first interview I have seen and he comes across as a real humble and nice individual...glad that he doesn't slur either, not showing the affects of being a boxer for so many years...I'm very pleased by this.
+Tom J Nope he just gave brain damage to other people (terry norris) Only joking. He got hurt by gerald mclellen, who got brain damage from nigel benn. Actually everyone around him seem to have speech problems except him.
haha yeah i think it would be a unique experience to speak to him up close. Really pleasant guy, but i don't think i could concentrate on what he was saying without thinking about him knocking me out
Julian is such a humble man he don't want to say the truth that he would have iced GGG. Yes he did lose twice to McClenan and also to Mike McCallum who were both over 6ft and would have also beat GGG. Again prime Jackson stops prime GGG.
I agree with you and anyone says GGG could beat The Hawk or The G-MAN doesn't know what the hell their talking about and needs to quit smoking crack...
GGG is no where near as powerful p4p as Julian, still he is obserdly powerful, massiev credit to Julian for being so humble when he certainly doesnt need to be
GGG does not have KO power? I believe he knocked out EVERY opponent he faced for 8 years straight. Julian had a better KO punch but GGG had much more boxing skills.
Thanks Hawk Jackson. You have provided us many of the highlights of this sport. Many of most shocking KOs you wild find were performed by this warrior.
Im glad he functioning and speaking very well due to the opponent's he's faced and his career bouts. One of the all time greats of any weight class a straight beast of the highest order.
Amazing. So good to see and hear him showing us what a fine man he is, and great to get to know him a bit belatedly, added a new dimension to him for me. Didn't know his technique and footwork were so good. Absolutely amazing footwork, totally creative, totally instinctive and belonging only to him. Just like every single one of the all time greats
Man. Imagine a boxer so powerful and good, that people paid him lots of money to get back in the game, but hes staying humble now and is coaching his sons and others
What an absolutely lovely and warm hearted guy. Hard to believe this is the same man with hands that that could damn near kill a man in his prime. He knocked Herold Graham out cold for six minutes with that famous right hook. Thank you Julian Jackson for your legacy as a professional boxer and I wish you a long and happy life.
JULIAN JACKSON would knock out out triple g I really would put serious money that the hawk in his absolute prime would ko any middleweight in history pound for pound
ricardo andrade c'mon man. Julian was a legend and arguably the best 154 fighter. But how do you think would do against monzon, robinson or hagler? He would probs get ko'd. Still legend tho
I think Nigel Benn would have given him problems too, Benn was an aggressive mover, he didn’t come straight in up straight he moved a lot coming in and I think that would have been difficult for Jackson
I can only think of three or four fighters in the last 50 years who could routinely end a fight with one single punch. Julian Jackson, David Tua, Mike Tyson, and Deontay Wilder come to mind.
This guy was so dangerous back in the day. I don't want to mention names but he messed people up. Watching this now, even though it's 7 years later, I never actually realised how much of a true, genuine and humble man Julian is. Great to see he made it out of the 80s and 90s boxing game with everything intact. And the absolute passion he shows for the sport is something that is lost on a lot boxers even to this day. Sport is art, and he is a straight forward artist.
Ronald Bernard, yours is just an abjectly false statement. Jackson defended the light middleweight title five times before being knocked out in two by Mike McCallum. He then took the vacant WBA light middleweight title, and defended it three times before campaigning as a full middleweight. He took and defended the vacant WBC middleweight bauble four times before being wasted by Gerald McClellan. After being KOed again in the rematch by McClellan, he again won the vacant WBC title, but promptly lost it in the very first defense, KOed this time by Quincy Taylor. He had one more shot at something called the WBU light middleweight championship, being KOed in 6 by Verno Phillips. Gennady Golovkin, on the other hand, did not lose as a professional till his 40th fight. That was arguably a bad decision in favor of Saul Alvarez when GGG was past age 36. Prior to that, he was undefeated in 22 straight world title fights, and had suffered only a draw against that same Alvarez, another bad decision. He knocked out 19 of those opponents. It is he, not Jackson who has the highest KO ratio in middleweight championship fights, 89.7%. He also has a jaw for the ages, never having hit the floor in 350 amateur fights, 42 pro fights, and all the attendant sparring. Had lineal middleweight champions not ducked him during every year of his prime, he might now be considered one of the three greatest middleweight champions of all time. Julian Jackson was handicapped for nearly his entire career by having a small frame while fighting bigger. Even today, in retirement, he is barely over 160 pounds. He scored more spectacular KOs than GGG, but was not the better KO artist, and paled in comparison as a boxer. Jackson was more exciting than the methodical GGG, but calling him more dominant is a surrealistic farce.
@@Nagy50Magyar I agree with everything you wrote, except that Jackson was a much better puncher than Golovkin, even at middleweight. KO ratio doesn't equate to harder puncher. Golovkin is a better boxer than Jackson, more accurate and with heavy hands, far more of an attritional fighter. Jackson was just a fearsome single punch KO artist, fast and dangerous. One important aspect is he countered well in exchanges, where the opponent is more vulnerable. It's harder to knock someone out who is on defence. Obviously his power was slightly less impactful up at 160 but still incredibly dangerous.
I grew up on St. Thomas in Charlotte Amalie. He would be passing thru the hill and would stop to talk to us all the time. He would come to the high school to give motivation speeches as well. An all around class act who is down to earth for real man. #champ4life
The most prolific POWER HITTER EVER. Tyson, Hearns, McClellan, Alexis Arguello etc....knocked guys out but The Hawk left his victims to be taken out on a stretcher. He could sleep an opponent throwing off balance. A true NATURAL born puncher in every sense of the word. Even more than Shavers. When Julian Jackson hit a man they STAYED hit. His kayos were savage, sickening and beautiful to watch. Like a car wreck. The Hawk leveled opponents in a way that they literally short circuited and were out on impact. I watched a lot of boxing over the years and have never seen a hitter like the Hawk. Good to see him looking healthy, fit and on control of his faculties. Then again he doled out the punishment more than he received and I would have to think his faith also kept him well preserved. Out of a lot of the outstanding fighters from the 90s he looks probably the most sound and fit.
