Nice to meet you. I am Japanese, currently living in Japan, and practicing kendo. I am a student now, but I also run a RU-vid channel. I would like to use this video in one of my videos. Is it okay to use it?

that kote landed in the arm

You are correct. It looks like it was outside of kote but it is also backside of kote, too. It was probably within the range of kote. Anyway, I also believe timingwise and even location it was good kote. All those shinpan came from Japan to judge this tournament so if they think that was kote, that was kote. If this kind of judgement happened to me, I would think it was lucky it was not a real sword. Thank you for watching!

@@tandendo I practiced kendo in high school for about 4 years, 3 times per week. I absolutely love it as a martial art, kendo give me that new perspective to embrace moments in life through disciplined practice. However, i think in competitions sometimes ippons can be very subjective and that is beautiful as an imperfect tradicional art but also it's really difficult for me to understand the logic from every shinpan. Thank you so much your response and this videos, i really appreciate it!

@@pablobarria296 I totally agree with you. I also quit Kendo for 11 years. After I started Aikido, I realized I need to practice Kendo again. Recently I finally found and figure out the secrets of Japanese martial arts. Those secrets resides in Kendo and other Japanese martial arts. It was a blue bird. To refine and confirm the secrets, Kendo is very good. Once you have this perspective view, match or ippon would be matter for me. It is just path or tool to refine the skill. Even though I loose or win, it would not matter to me now. If you see all my other videos, you might find the same way. It is not about Kendo any more. Thank you for your comments!

These guys are so fast that it's actually difficult to be 100% sure of the location of the kote (easier to judge when looking at a video when you don't have the pressure to give the right call). Also the opponent did lose his guard and his kote was wide open and in such case judges might tend to judge the situation more than the location of the hit. But as a judge you should always give the best judgment possible and should not use excuses like I could not see it because it was too fast! It's no easy task..!
