The premise for the show is a little much to try explaining in the comment section of a RU-vid video but, basically, the band that she has behind her are ghosts that only she can see...unless there is music playing. Their music, specifically. It's a really cute show, an interesting premise for a show...and I don't know if it was canceled or not. However, fun reaction. I'm glad you did this one. I watched all of this show I could find quite some time back and I'm glad to see it getting some much needed attention.
@@JenniferGlatzhofer I can explain the show for you is about a ordinary teenage girl named Julie who has lost her passion for music after the death of her Mother and then she meets three ghost who died 25 years before and she the only one who can see them unless they’re playing with her on stage then everyone can see them and just like Julie them had pretty rough family like Luke the one in the beanie ran away from home after an argument with his Mom Reggie the one in the leather jacket had parents who always fought and Alex the one in pink told his parents he was gay and they were never cool again so anyways Julie forms a band with them and pass them as holograms and she ends up falling in love with Luke sadly this show got canceled which is the biggest mistake Netflix has ever made because this show was extremely popular the target audience were teenagers and people in they’re 20’s started watching it and became a big hit on Netflix
@@superspiderfan2099 "biggest mistake Netflix has ever made" YES! 100% Agree. Although I cant help but wonder if it was due to covid restrictions at the time. The performance scenes would have been really hard to keep up with. And where they filmed the first season it was really strict.
Every song from this show is great. Btw this was recorded live for the show. All of the clip performances are filmed/recorded live. There is a big difference between the clips and the soundtrack. They are all actually playing the instruments here too. That was a big thing that the creators really wanted for in the show.
@@JenniferGlatzhofer Before covid happened and ruined everything, they were supposed to go on tour. Kenny Ortega casted them for that. He didn’t want actors who could sing. He wanted a real band, so musicians who could act. 🤗
Madison was 15 when she filmed. That song won The MTV MUSICAL MOMENT IN 2021. Madison will be 18 in June and has recorded 2 songs and a cover of Dreaming of you. She also received an emmy nomination for best young actor. Julie and the Phantoms wasdirected by the iconic Kenny Ortega. Thiss was her first ever gig at 14.
I'm one of the folks who found this video because I keep an eye out for Julie and the Phantoms reactions, and I really enjoyed your analysis. If they're not already on the list, might I recommend 'Wake Up' (solo by Madison aka Julie) and 'Bright' (the band's first time performing together (in the show, of course))? Honestly the show has a lot of great options, though.
Julie and The Phantoms is one of my comfort songs! All the songs from the show are really good and the whole band and rest of the cast are so talented! Definitely recommend checking most of the songs from the show out whether on the channel or on your own time :D (would love to see the reactions on the channel though ;) ). Loved your analysis!
Unfortunately the show was cancelled after 1 season despite the popularity by Netflix, however fans are campaigning for other streaming services to pick it up for season 2!

The 2nd verse phrasing/breathing disconnect signifies the disconnect between the two characters in the story She is avoiding him for the better part of this song; he wins her back w the impromptu guitar riff Funfact(mentioned elsewhere too): in reality too, the riff was improvised by Charlie Gillespie(male lead) on set. All their performances were recorded as 2 versions 1) Album version in studio 2) Series Soundtrack version - a mix of studio & live performance recordings

The actors from the show also did an acoustic rendition of this song that was record from each of their individual houses during lockdown. I think it would be fun to see a reaction of that and how it compares to the version in the show. the video is here on RU-vid.

This show is soooo good. All you really need to know is that’s Julie and the three guys in her band are ghosts from the 90s lol. They can only be seen when they play music with Julie. Check out their song ‘Bright’!
The fact that you noticed their phrasing and breathing wasn't in-sync 💜 def. intentional because the characters are out of sync at the start, she's avoiding him and potential feelings, you can see him gesture to her and she ignores him. But they come together in perfect harmony at the end.

OK folks, I am the simpleton who asked about onsets and offsets. Jennifer was kind enough to enlighten me in a previous video. On the positive side, whenever I learn something new, I am smarter than I've ever been before. I do know something about passages though. I went through the passage of childhood to the teenage years of passage to adulthood then to my passage to senior years and am now transitioning ( see, I know that term too!) back to childhood. Thank you Jennifer for clearing that issue up for me. I hope I'll remember you when I revert back to childhood! Dang! I hate baby food!

i absolutely loved this tv show and all the songs in it🙂👍 but at same time i was very dissepointed that there was no season 2, season 3 and season 4 and so on with the same actors😞😞😞

Yes, it's a Netflix remake of a Brazilian show about a girl who meets 3 ghosts who died before their band made it big. She's the only one who can see them normally, but they discover everyone else can see them when they perform with her. They cover up the 'ghost' part by pretending that the guys are performing via 'hologram' to explain why they appear and disappear. Honestly, the music in this show had no right to be as good as it is. It hits a bunch of different styles, and all the vocals and instruments are performed by the actors (the original, pre-COVID goal was for the cast to tour as an actual band in addition to the show). They did record in studio but also sang live when filming to make it authentic (certain songs have distinct differences from the show to the soundtrack).
This was such a pleasant surprise!! Great reaction! I’d love to see more Julie and the phantoms songs. Wake Up is great Madison solo. Bright and Now or Never also have amazing vocal moments.
I loved your analysis, it was so interesting. All the songs in Julie and the Phantoms are great. If you liked Charlie's performance in Edge of Great you should listen to Unsaid Emily, it's beautiful and vulnerable.
Thank you for this reaction and analysis. In addition to those already suggested, I would suggest watching/listening to Edge of Great (acoustic version) and Bright (acoustic version). Both were filmed during the pandemic and give an interesting comparison to the show versions
