The thing about Andrews is that when she sings, she makes sure that the song itself remain the star. No vocal pyrotechnics to impress us with what she can do, like so many prima donna singers of today. She keeps things simple and does pretty much what the composer and lyricist expected when they wrote the song. You hear every word, and hear every note, but you are not hearing her manipulate the thing to showcase her voice more than what was intended. It shows loyalty to the work, and complete confidence in her talent and technique and in the song. Its actually more brave to stay authentic to the material than it is to embellish. So often less is more
No lip-syncing, no gimmicks, no microphone in her face, live, honest singing without the need of sexually trivializing oneself and short-changing the audience. Real talent with some really pristine chords, perfect diction, glorious sounds and immaculate phrasing, a walking singing masterclass for men and women alike. I hope we get a new generation of honest, legitimate singers soon!
RosieTheKittenator does not make up for my forever queen & idol Julie Andrews! She's a gem! Anything everything any of the other artists & performers do she can do better..... far better!
Well, i meant singers who can sing without microphones, usually classically trained singers can sing over an orchestra in a huge hall, its always great to see live singing like that, it makes it far more exciting.
RosieTheKittenator Adele is great but no one can out Julie Julie! Not just the singing but everything else! Complete package ! She is singular! Not practically perfect but perfect
Julie made over 30 films, co-authored 19 children's books, served in the UN, is Dame Commander of the British empire dubbed by Queen Elizabeth II, won a Nobel peace prize for her efforts to combat child illiteracy worldwide, had this amazing 4-octave singing voice, won an Oscar in 1964 for Mary Poppins. What an EXTRAORDINARY lady she is!!
There is no one like Julie. She will always be my number 1 idol. They say nobody is perfect, well I think Julie IS. I wish she still could sing, so we could all still enjoy her wonderfull voice, she is true Royalty to me. I love you JULIE
One thing of which to be certain about Ms. Andrews: Through the years there are so many of her performances on record it is clear that she loved to perform and share her incredible gifts. And so lucky for us all for it.
Yeh Gaga's performance was a pleasant surprise and her singing was quite good but let's not be silly, Julie Andrews is in another league. Julie's singing is effortless with amazing clarity, amazing sustain amazing accuracy of pitch, beautiful interpretation of the song's nuances and all of that shines out even from a video clip that is 50 years old..
That's because most people know nothing about "vocal" teaching anymore... years ago... most "common" folk... did... Gaga... did do a GREAT job... but... hasn't had this kind of training... or voice... she's NOT a soprano... I SO MISS Julie's GLORIOUS instrument... I wish she didn't have that silly operation...
Her voice is so angelic, pure and innocent that once you hear it, can take all your woes away. Powerful voice. It puts you into a good mood. thank you for sharing your talent to the world miss Andrews. c: xoxo
+Mel “Issa” C It's the type of angelic innocence you generally only hear in child singers like Jackie Evancho when she was little. Julie somehow retained that quality in her singing as an adult. Truly the greatest female singer of the century.
julie andrews is simply the best woman in the entire world. shes so beautiful, and talented. everybody loves her ! take a look at any video of her, there are no haters ! :)
The last two or three lines of ICHDAN just fill you with thrill, whoever's singing them, or even just as an instrumental; that chord progression is one of the greatest of all time. And when Julie is singing it, given it was I think more or less written for her …
I can't imagine the enormous pain she Must have felt when loosing her singing Voice. I Sing to,and I give all My respect to her, that she didn't give up her Life and found something New to do....Respect Julie Andrews !!!
@@michestella Actually it's possible she could have. Walt Disney told Julie that if Jack Warner changed his mind and wanted her as Eliza, he would delay Mary Poppins for her.
She is absolutely amazing. There is no one today that compares. And I agree with the others who said that Lady Gaga's performance at the Oscars last year, while good, was simply amateur compared to Julie Andrews.
If you hear this voice you can see that it is a great voice even if there is no karaoke sound effect or anything at all. When she is teenagers, practicing songs at home garden, the story that a dog at a distance of several miles also came listening to her voice never exaggerated.
What a beautiful voice!!!! I still am amazed every time Julie sings The Sound of Music!!!!! And the when she sang I Could Have Danced All Night!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!!
So clear, pure and effortless. I feel beyond terrible for her to lose her voice. I can only be thankful that it didn’t happen when she was in her prime.
I love that she included "I Could Have Danced All Night" in this special. 'My Fair Lady' was still very fresh in the public's mind as the film had just won Best Picture a few months prior and Julie's performance was a note to the public on what they missed out on. It's almost a way of saying "This is what you missed in the film and this is how it's done." No offense to the incredible Audrey Hepburn, who did a wonderful job with the role, but watching this shows how insane Jack Warner was. The film would have been just as successful with Julie.
This completely takes me back to my childhood. I was only 6 years old when the Sound of Music came out, but I still have the record (vinyl) and this was the first music I truly loved. My grandmother had the Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison record from My Fair Lady and I have that too. I learned to sing by belting it out like Ms. Andrews and sang soprano in high school. I have now lost my upper register as well. I miss those days...
Sound of music, my favourite film and always has been! It came out when I was 6 and I went to see it a total of 25 times before it came out on video and I had a vcr to play it on! I've probably seen it a few hundred times by now. Never get tired of it - or Julie's voice. It's a film I know what they're going to say before they say it! Lol. With a voice like that no wonder if was heartbreaking for her when she lost it.
mulderandscully I love the sound of music so so so much too it’s my favorite movie forever I am born in 2008 but the age doesn’t matter! The movie is wonderful!! Julie Andrews is my whole world❤️💗
I play big family songs like these to my new born to remind us of the beauty attributed of women, they are moving for peoples with heart. It's therapudic after getting put through the wringer with you-know-who-man-hater and they reconfirm the love within the human conditions.
Hi to everyone in Utube I lv Julie Andrews she's my favourite singer specially in Sound Of Music during my teens I love the movie and her other movies too
Still another outstanding performance from the 1965 "Julie Andrews Show" featuring selections from 'Sound of Music' and 'My Fair Lady'. Julie's voice is sweet yet also quite powerful, especially when she hits the high notes at the end.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens, That heavenly sound when Julie Andrews sings, These are a few of my favourite things! 😃👍
Saddens me each time I see & listen to this one voice of the incomparable Julie Andrews! That Doctor robbed the world of this amazingly divine elegant beauty!
Julie Andrews is such an amazing actress and singer, Hollywood could learn a thing or two from this magnificent lady! Her beautiful voice makes me smile, I could listen to her singing all day long. Some record label out there should make an album or soundtrack of her most famous songs. She is the definition of class, elegance, and sophistication...attributes that are hard to find in many singers and actresses nowadays.
I just saw Lady Gaga's sound of music tribute to Julie Andrews from last year's Oscars ceremony! And now that I compare Gaga's performance to this one, she was pitch perfect! Every note was perfect!
Watching & re- watching Julie Andrews' amazing performances here is inspiring & uplifting! She is one of a kind! I only wish she had starred in My Fair Lady, we would be able to keep watching. her greatness like we do for the Sound of Music! She made Eliza Doolittle real & lovable! Transformation was inspiring!
This the BEST live performance I have ever seen this year in RU-vid. When young Julie (before 42) performed on stage, it's always really much better than studio, both voice and charm… A real performer made for stage, who could shine on stage……
