I read how the kids and Julie actually spent 3 months learning how to do this scene; marionette puppets, singing & everything❣️

Just realizing how the story of the lonely goatherd mirrors the movie’s plot. The lonely goatherd (a lonely man - Captain Von Trapp) with his goat herd (his children) build a new family with a girl (Maria) who responded to his song (request for a new governess), with the girl’s mother (Reverend Mother) encouraging the girl to follow her heart

Imagine the cringy CGI that would be used today to recreate this scene. You can't top the original. What a classic.

This scene is the kind that could so easily have been cut from the final movie. I'm glad they left it in. It's pure charm.

I love how the girl's mom immediately approves of her loving the goatherd.

1:28 is my fav part because of how Julie laughs at herself because she sings the first line so goofy. It’s adorable and I replay it too much.

Julie Andrews will always be a legend. She's incredibly talented.

I love how near the end, while Maria is singing the last parts, you can see Brigitta smiling trying her hardest not to laugh like they're making her go on on purpose 😂

I always liked the baroness. She seemed so cool and trying. But she could not compete with the nun here.

As a child I was captivated by this song - and still today it brings such warmth and joy.

The scene, puppets, children, Maria, are absolutely adorable. But the song is musically a masterpiece! Full of detail, layers, and punctuation -and performed just perfectly!

Julie Andrew’s voice was so beautiful! I can only dream of singing like her.

I am from Austria and we literally grew up watching puppets like these on TV or even live. Puppet theaters were really popular, especially Kasperl 😍 sadly this tradition is going away 😔

My grandma introduced me to this movie in the mid 90s. Still one of my favorite musical films

My fav part is that after the movie julie met the real maria con trapp and she gave her pointers on yodelling

I was 8 in 1965 in Luton when my Nan took me to see The Sound Of Music. I was so enthralled I begged to be taken back a week later and my grandad got roped in, best times.

The key change near the end and the corresponding yodels are spectacular!

This has got to be my absolute favorite part of the movie.

Sound of Music is best musical ever and don't come at me with your singing in the rain.

People today don’t realize that at the time this film was made Eleanor Parker (the Baroness) was the most famous to filmgoers. The other performers were mostly known for their stage work. She was cast not only for her talent but her name recognition. She was a very talented performer, several Oscar nominations, played many different roles, but sadly is most remember for her The Sound of Music. But I suppose not the worst thing to be remembered for! She does have the best lines!

OMG!!! We who were alive back then learned from this. The entire score taught us all the basics. This cast knocked it out of the park for all of eternity!! Especially noticeable here is little Angela belting out octaves like a true Austrian. Just incredible how Julie led this team! Cheers!

I saw the movie twice with my mom in downtown Seattle at the Music Box Theater on 5th Avenue. Still one of my all time favorites.

When I was in sixth grade the nuns took us to see THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Those were the days. And they just don't make movies like this any more.

My favourite part is when Marta accidentally blows some of the “beer” into Maria’s face! 😂 Cracks me up every single time!

Nearly 50 years since I first saw this - and it still makes me feel happier than any other song!

2:15 that "phew" from julie Andrews is well deserved on two levels: one, being Maria, who almost never directed a show before, when the directing is taking a toll on her, and Julie Herself needing a breath after that goddamn coloratura bit, which goes unnoticed in most productions.

I cant imagine any other singer in this role. Julie Andrews is, in my opinion, the greatest female singer of all time. Her smile, wholesomeness and personality all adds to her aura. I'm not a celebrity worshipper, but I'll be broken once she passes.

2020 has brought me here and now Ima watch the Sound of Music

I am Japanese. I watered this movie when I was 14 years old. I was moved and saw it 10 times. I am on the path to becoming a Psychological counselor today from the sensitivity I received in this movie...Thank you very much......

The puppets move so well and funny that one wonders whether i was done by others, or how they could train the children that well? Apart from that, the play has a symbolic meaning: In its playful , funny ease, it loosens up the captains frozen sorrow, helping him get over it., and helps the inexperienced Maria to be confident about love.Just a thought.

So many little things that bring me back: the goat's tails wag, the Baroness always looks to the Captain to see how to react, the way Maria elbow-nudges Briggita, and Gretel's genuine captivation with the puppets.

As a kid I was scared to death of puppets but this was a scene I used to rewind over and over and over again! I just had to come back and see it again. It’s downright adorable.

I can’t believe my mom doesn’t like this movie or Julie Andrews, insane. I love this movie so much. RIP Christopher Plummer 😔
