the thing I love most about her is every single live performance is brilliantly emotional and authentic, yet each one a little unique. she channels her emotion every time she sings and that's what makes her such an incredible artist.
Literally stumbled on Julien by accident a week ago on RU-vid. All I've listened to since. Her song writing is the most beautiful I've heard in a long time. Her live performances magic. This girl sings her soul out, not just her heart. This video is my fave - the raw, honest emotion at 1:28 is why I love her. She's singing this song to both us and someone specific. Pure honesty.
I keep coming back to this specific version of this song. It's such a raw, amazing performance with just the acoustic guitar that the other versions with the full band can't quite capture. Maybe that's just nostalgia goggles, but that's how I feel.
Let me pick through the empty dirt And the rotten wood and the shoddy work Cause I'm interested, and our carpenter is so elegant at placing splinters Right beneath my nails, where I cannot dig them out But the same briars from your ribs are the tinder in my father's house And I know, I know, I know, I know I know myself better than anybody else And you're gonna run You're gonna run when you find out who I am I know I'm a pile of filthy wreckage you will wish you'd never touched But you're gonna run when you find out who I am Yeah, you're gonna run You're gonna run, it's alright, everybody does You're gonna run, it's alright, everybody does You're gonna run, it's alright, everybody does You're gonna run, it's alright, everybody does
This session shows her spirit beautifully. There is more talent riddled in these few raw moments than most hopeful artists can string together in a year. Her song writing is what draws me here, and it is a treasure to not hear it muddied or pushed down by pedal obsession. That earthy rawness she has within her comes off like a private prayer, and all relinquish their activities to quietly witness in somber observance.
I really like her music, even as an atheist, she is really passionate about it. I don't really know if she is playing a really big guitar or if she is a really short woman.
Clifford Mcadams Maybe I wrote it wrong, what I meant is that even her songs being strongly gospel, I, as an atheist, enjoy then a lot because they are really good.
Anyone else see a young Jane Lynch resemblance, particularly with some of her facial expressions? Anyway, both of them are awesome and I love this song!
