Certainly appears to be a 681. Which of course was not released until after Elvis's death. Looking at the auction results, there is no 681 or anything resembling one listed. I wonder if someone pointed it out to "Dr." Nick and he quietly removed it? Makes one wonder about the provenance of anything that was auctioned. Caveat Emptor I guess.
I'd like to know the answer to this as well - given the full length lug under the barrel seems to indicate a 686. But make no mistake - I have no doubt if there was a proto-type of the 686 pre-1980 - then Elvis would have been the one to get it and of course - give it away as a gift as he did so often.
This guy is the reason for Elvis death. Pumping him full of different drugs just to make him feel good, but ignored OBVIOUS underlying health issues of nodding out, twitching, palpitations, & profuse sweating.

Elvis unfortunately like all poor people born in south Usa was fall in love with rings,diamonds,guns,cars,clothes...but unfortunately he wasn't fall in love with his health..This is sad,just a sin.

Pardon me here now yes, I know Dr. Nick is long gone now but I must say that wow, did he have bad teeth fuck, he had a hard time talking but anyway, you would think that a man like he was would have spent some money fixing his teeth just like all the movie stars do. Anyway, him now not being with us anymore it doesn't matter now but I wanted to just point out that I'm very suppriced that a man like him being besid ebeing a doctor but being Elvis's doctor that he would have the best teeth around. No one forced Elvis to take meds. Pills are an easy fix to many problems that's all..Elvis was a drug addict , a womanizer and a narcissist...his career started declining and he spent more than he made .
Yes well he wouldn't be a dr if he couldn't prescribe pills now would he, everything dr nick prescribed to elvis was perfectly legal, he was not convicted of prescribing any thing that wasn't legal, because doctors are needed by people who sometimes need severe pain relief, all perfectly controlled and legal, however if you can provide any information to support your wild claims about any wrong doing by dr nick I suggest you go to the police station and tell them everything, of course you'll need proof but on account of the fact you know everything you'll be ok mate they'll believe you I'm sure!!
