I was born 1969. I first seen Juliet when I was about 10 yrs old, seen Her in a Elvis Movie, started watching cause I knew who Elvis was, but when I seen and heard Juliet in this Movie I could not take My eyes off of Her and how absolutely Perfect She was, Acting, Dancing and even more so now when I listen to this Interview how articulate and Intelligent She is, perfect Woman. Miss You Juliet Prowse.
Juliet. What a talent. Sorely missed. Saw her do Phyllis in Follies in Long Beach. Had to be one of the best. Her acting was amazing and her dancing (those legs-wow) sublime.
That is great, Jack. I saw her in "Mame" at the Drury Lane Theatre in London in 1969. She was just fabulous and those legs just kept getting longer!!!! She looked like a white swan when she did her final curtain bow. How she thrust her leg forward and did almost the splits was an unforgettable picture for me.
I loved your comments about Juliet. Everyone always sidesteps WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR but she's wonderful in that movie. I fell madly in love with her (and Sal Mineo and Elaine Stritch). I wish I could have told her how much her work affected me.
I fist saw Juliet in GI Blues when in Woolwich, London, 1960?. I was 17? I went home with her in my heart. I bought the L.P. and dreamed of Juliet and wished I could meet a girl like her. I did, but that all went wrong. She was a dream and I was a drunk. When 42 I bought a ticket to see Juliet at the London Palladium. Same love and lonely walk home.
Juliet was not only supremely talented, but intelligent, articulate, and a great beauty. I loved reading about the time she performed a special cancan dance for Nikita Khrushchev who proclaimed her dance as "immoral" which only enhanced her celebrity.
I really like this interview - but I don't appreciate Whaley's bringing up Lucille Ball's controversial performance as MAME. First of all, I don't think that Lucille Ball played the role "as a comedian" and I think that the film has received an unfair bashing by the critics. However, hearing Juliet Prowse speak with such candid honesty is terrific. What a sorry thing that we lost her so early.
I agree with you completely. Lucille did not play the role as a comedian, she created something new that didn't rely on schtick. This may well have disappointed anyone expecting "Lucy Ricardo" antics, but I appreciated the approach. In fact, I thought Lucy brought great warmth to the part, which is exactly what Juliet Prowse here is describing as so important. So though I find this interviewer to be very poor, Prowse herself comes off as intelligent & bright, making the most of the interview possible.
Funny, as I don’t hear much of a South African accent in this interview? Here’s her original “real” South African accent, when she was younger: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H6SyVrFnRCU.htmlsi=Id-hHNjXfmVx5avV
Strange she was married to "Eric Forrester" Bold and the Beautiful. She was also a lover to Sinatra and Elvis. Anyway she was interesting and I would like to see the rest of this...
Born in Bombay India to South African parents. Many suspect african in bloodline but she was able to pass as many did. Interesting if true. Regardless, she was absolutely beautiful!!! Great talent that died too young.
