Totalmente de acuerdo, Chavez en su mejor momento y limpio fue indestructible que se fajo con los mejores y en igualdad de condiciones, para mi el que ganen una pelea con un boxeador que ya va de salida y minado por las drogas no me parece ningun merito menos un triunfo, para mi JJCH el mejor por mucho👍

@Mjolbaggar I thought that Whitaker won. Georgie Benton in a KO or Ring Magazine in 91 said the reason they didn't make the fight sooner with Whitaker is because they wanted Chavez to slow down some. If you between 90 - 93, from Taylor to Whitaker. Chavez some decent fighters, but was largely untested and 2 years at least wasted. I also remember reading the cover on the KO or Ring, "A Warning to Boxing, Don't Waste Julio Cesar Chavez's last good years.They were, because Don King didn't care.
Funny he said win, lose, or draw! I think he may've jinxed it!! I think JC did the best he could with a guy with an awkward southpaw style like Whitaker.. The two styles didn't mesh up that well in the ring but it was still interesting and a pretty good fight.. Both gave their all so I can understand why it was scored like it was..

Mayweather se cree la gran cosa con un tierno 49. quizás ganó muchos títulos pero son las peleas y no los títulos los que te hacen un gran campeón. si se hubiera retirado invicto hubiera sido su corona, pero sus 105 ganadas se ven mejor aunque perdió unas cuantas veces mas fue a causa de haberse sumergido en las drogas. De lo contrario pudo haber llegado quizá a las 100 peleas invicto, o al menos pasado de 95

Whittaker was a defensive master and a master at the counter punch. Chavez had no idea of what to do to close the gap and outpoint Sweetpea. Chavez was great and is a Legend but he lost to the great Pernell that night in Oct 1993
The interviewer was desperately trying to get Chavez to disrespect Whitaker. Makes me wonder if they sent a female journalist hoping he's be more inclined to try and Macho things up. To his credit he didn't and was pretty respectful - just the last comment when he compared how much balls they each have, so I guess that was what they'd take out of the interview. He was right about how Whitaker would fight except for two things really: that he'd run - he didn't, he was evasive but didn't run around the ring and that his sparring partners could emulate Whitaker's style. He was correct in that he'd be able to reach Whitaker with his shots but in doing so he struggled to get a lot of power on them. That, plus him not being a natural Welterweight is what cost him. Yeah, I know Whitaker was a small guy at 147 but his style was to minimize contact and that will usually be more successful in terms of moving through the weights. Even a killer like Duran was at Lightweight had to adjust and become more of a counter-puncher at 147 and above, Chavez fought the same way by and large and struggled to impose his style on heavier opponents. For example, Duran was only slightly bigger than Chavez yet was able to box competitively against a peak Hagler at 160. Can anyone imagine Chavez doing the same?

There's a reason why Chavez still holds the record for boxing attendance (136274 in attendance at Azteca stadium ) . he was real...genuine, with a real heart. He proved to be a sore loser later in his career,but he gave everything of himself in the ring and people sensed that, and loved him for it. As talented as he was, there's no way that 136274 would come to see Whitiker fight. He was about self preservation. He was merely a talented fighter, not a warrior. There's a difference.
Where as some of what you say has some substance i feel your love for your hero Chavez has some what blinded you.. Whitaker would move backwards and counter punch whilst stopping at times and letting three four punch combos go, if you thought Chavez won that then i'm sorry but you have no idea how to score a fight.. I as much as you like to see toe to toe fights, jeez i was a big Gatti fan but the true elusive defensive art is brilliant! Room for both types of fighter!
Later in his career, unfortunately, he was dranking a lot. Even before the fight with Whitaker. After Chavez's victory over Taylor, Chavez started dranking after that much more than before. He didn't have a serious challenge again he fought Whitaker and IMO Chavez had faded, primarily because of his life style.
