If you actually look at Chapman’s overall numbers over the course of the last 3 years, they have been on a very steady decline, especially offensively. Still a plus defender, but not elite anymore. He’s always had a high k %, and that has been projecting in the wrong direction as well. You’d essentially be signing another Suarez, which the M’s traded away for a reason. Absolutely vote NO for Chapman. 👎

Hard no on Chapman. Rojas and Urias will outperform Chapman as a platoon. The only way Seattle improves its team before the season starts is via trade.
@MarcoAspaas
@MarcoAspaas 6 месяцев назад
Your opinion of Chapman is based on his historical play from 2-3 seasons ago. He's not as good now and his bat is a similar liability as Suarez or Teo was last year. I like the younger platoon of Rojas and Urias heading into season There's a better chance of one of the younger players hitting better than an aging Chapman.

We are built for the postseason. The problem is, we are not built to get there. Our massive strikeout problems last season masked the fact that we are behind nearly everyone else in athleticism as we are/were not in a position to take advantage of the new rules. And then our second best basestealer got traded to the Rays. I don't know why we aren't getting more athletic and taking a page out of the 2015 Royals playbook. Between our staff and our park, paired with athletes who have speed, baserunning skills, and small ball skills, we could win it all. But that's not where we are.

The main reason Seattle is hesitant to sign more big-name FAs is because the local TV channel, ROOT Sports, moved from the basic to an upgraded package. They expect less revenue and aren't willing to spend more money as an ownership group.
@ZSAGaming
@ZSAGaming 6 месяцев назад
Nah bro, you’re just buying the bullshit that they’re telling you. It’s been like this ever since Jerry stepped into the building. How many excuses before you realize that the ownership just really doesn’t want to spend money? Mitch Garver has been the biggest FA Jerry has signed, and his deal is like 2 years 24 million. The royals could’ve signed Garver 5 times over this offseason, and he’s our only signing. The rest were cap neutral or cash saving trades.

The other reason is Mariners have this tendency to pick up free agents who are great _before_ arriving in Seattle and then imploding.

SNELL NO! Same with Chapman. The Mariners have a better lineup than last year when they “owned” Houston but choked the season away in September. Great pitching, a little luck, and a few clutch hits in October can win a World Series. Go Mariners!

Solid video overall. I'd love to see the Mariners get their resurgence (still not hopeful it will be this year tho), BUT from an objective baseball fan's perspective, the beginning minute saying the Braves pitching was not a strength going into the postseason is patently ridiculous. "What did they not have?" Well, they had a forced bye week that statistically has favored teams without the bye. Diamondbacks had great pitching?? Haha, they allowed 761 runs to the Braves 716. When looking at rotation performance (ERA+ and bWAR) those teams had: Strider (115/3.4), Fried (174/2.7), Morton (122/3.1), Elder (116/2.9) ...VS... Gallen (125/4.3), Kelly (132/3.8, Pfaat (76/-0.4), Mantiply (95/0.1) its not even close. Diamondbacks got lucky on a hot streak as they struggled to dispatch the Phillies and a MUCH better team in the Rangers put them back in their place easily. Maybe stay focused on "purely" baseball and not some overstated edgy openings that aren't true and people will believe what you have to say in the second half of your video ;-)

Dbacks had far from a "Great Rotation" the drop off after Kelly is actually incredible. Brandon Pfaadt had a 6era in the reg season and was the gm1 starter in the WC and the Game 7 starter in the NLCS along with other starts between those. That just goes to show how thin that Rotation was. But it clicked at the right time for him and the Dbacks and that's all it takes in the MLB Playoffs to make a deep run
@PurelyBaseballYT
@PurelyBaseballYT 6 месяцев назад
For the D Backs rotation, I was referring to the postseason. Which. pfaadt really stepped up in dramatically. The depth, was a problem. And yeah I definitely agree with them clicking at the right time. Same for Texas. Rode off of Montgomery, and Eovaldi, got hot, got a world series
@PopOutPaulie
@PopOutPaulie 6 месяцев назад
@@PurelyBaseballYT Ahh ok yea pfaadt was extremely solid during that run. Surprised the hell outta me forsure. Rangers didn't surprise me that much tho. Something about them getting really cold in late August and September mad me feel more comfortable about them getting hot in the Postseason. Very weird logic of mine but it seemed to come true

Absolutely no on Chapman. That's an expensive version of Suarez, who we just traded away. He's a good player, not a great player. His bat has ALWAYS been inconsistent, and last year was no exception. Take away his April, and he was borderline awful. His defense has always been great, but is now slowly regressing. I prefer the platoon of Rojas and Urias to giving too much money to Chapman.
