At first I thought Nana was just being food dominant and going after Momoko because Momoko got food Nana wanted. She does that a lot. After watching the fight start a few times, I think it was Decky who had an issue with Momoko. Through no fault of her own. Perhaps he didn't like seeing her get something before him. Many zoo's throw food to the alpha's first to keep the peace. If you watch the video from 4:00, you will notice Miru is fear grinning while looking in Decky's direction. She knew he was upset. He was hooting. Nana is stuffing her mouth and has plenty of food and is just looking around when the food is thrown to Momoko. From 4:02 Nana looks at Decky and sees him coming toward Momoko and he is looking upset. Nana stands up. Decky seeing her support, starts to charge and Nana being his alpha girl, takes the lead and scolds Momoko. At the end both Nana and Decky make up with Momoko. Though Ibuki screamed near the end, I don't think he got hurt. He seemed to be loosing his grip and I hope that's the only reason he started screaming. Fubuki also got into the mix and he tried to bite Nana but he seemed to miss. Another great video by CR3!
I don't think anyone knows when to take Decky seriously. How many times has screamed while chasing Fubuki, only to let him off the hook when he finally catches him. As for Ibuki, he wasn't injured, but I saw him get hit indirectly a few times, and Momoko fell backwards on top of him once.
Hi ShinetheLightoftruth...I really enjoy your insightful observations...( I couldn't help but cringe in fear that Ibuki would be terribly frightened & injured...) I have such loving affection for ALL these chimps, & often wonder is there EVER a day when one of them (at least) is not screaming at the top of their lungs while chasing someone...There always seems to be such drama in their front yard... *: )*
@@poppykok5 - Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful. Though I have been wrong plenty of times but I have learned a lot of the tendencies of this troop. I also cringe whenever Momoko and Ibuki are in a scuffle. Though all the chimps love Ibuki and Plum. when their is an issue with mothers, they are targeted regardless of the babies. Rarely are babies intentionally targeted. In Momoko's case, she is low ranked so many will go after her. In Peaches case, she goes after others who step out of line and Plum has to hang on for the ride. Bonbons group is pretty quiet if Gin isn't out there and its just girls. When Gin is out in Bonbon's group, he is the odd man out. Gin has to be careful not to mate in front of Bonbon. Gin also has no backup, and that is why he sucks up to Bonbon. He has to or he will be perceived as a threat and Bonbon may go after him. Of course it is a different Gin if Max and Marina are with him. Decky's group often has squabbles as Nana doesn't put up with stuff that she has to when in Bonbons group. With Decky she won't put up with anything from Cherry or Berry. Max and Gin whether together of not don't fear repercussions in Decky's group and that's why they act up. They don't hurt anyone and they are so much fun to watch.
At 4:03 about when the fight starts during the whole thing you can see Momoko with Ibuki holding onto her constantly turning to try and ensure every blow that is directed at her will only nit her and not her baby.

Nana had her cabbage, the throw was closest to Momoko. And yes, Berry played a part in this. Berry and Nana have been feuding for months now. Momoko was between Berry and Nana, who is always backed up by Decky in fights. Momoko was just in a bad position. Both Decky and Nana approached Momoko afterwards respectfully. But all three got upset again when Berry was taunting on the wire.
I feel terrible for Momoko she certainly didn’t deserve what happened to her and poor Ibuki was terrified, and it looked as if Decky started it all, very out of character for him. I’ll never get used to the fact that chimps use fighting and get very nasty towards other chimps in their own group.😔
Decky has gotten a bunch of fights over food especially cabbage it's his favorite and he's really greedy with it. He got part of his lip biting off one day fighting a couple of females I can't remember who it was but he was sat there and bled and cried for 30 minutes after.
DECKY is the COOLEST Chimp on the Planet! He's raised Fubuki! Raising Ibuki and Plum and will Lil baby Dill very soon! He did it with Max and Gin too. He's everybody's best friend and playmate! If Decky got Upset at Momoko there was a very good reason for it! This is the greatest group of Chimps at any zoo in the World! They simply aren't Surviving, they're THRIVING! 🙂
The tension between Berry and Nana fueled this attack on Momoko. The food was the breaking point. Both Decky and Nana approached Momoko afterwards respectfully. Berry sitting up on the wire taunting afterwards getting everyone worked up again. Wish Nana would put her in her place for good. Kudos on Fubuki for standing up for his Momma and brother. Can't wait till he matures and becomes alpha so Momoko won't have to put up with this nonsense.
When it comes to food, chimpanzees are very protective, just check out other videos. I think decky thought momoko did something to Nana, that's why he went after momoko. But as always when there is a disagreement there is reconciliation, something us humans can learn from. Poor Ibuki tho. I love the beginning, of decky playing with ibuki, fubuki always giving his uncle decky a good run, once fubuki matures, I expect that decky will have new playmates in ibuki and plum.
You are right about Gin. Decky is afraid of Gin when he gets mad. I've seen Decky submit to him a ew times before, but never to Max, who was worse than useless out there. I don't understand why they don't put Mikan out with Momoko, as she always defends her family. You would think they want to protect baby Ibuki. He must have been terrified, as him mom was getting smacked and kicked around, and was urinating all over him.
Momoko you know better than to take nana food. Decky seemed to want it too. I felt bad for ibuki. Fubuki tried to defend mom and brother. Must be tough for him since he loves Decky but he went for nana. If Gin man was out he would of been all over nana and Decky. We know momoko loves her some food. Lol
I hate to even bring it up, but that 30 second fight is a perfect example of how chimp babies end up getting killed in a group that is usually peaceful. The adults are so incredibly strong. If Ibuki had been hit in the temple by one of Nana or Decky's punches that hit Momoko, the little guy could have been killed instantly, or severely injured. Sometimes a chimp just snaps and it causes a chain reaction. Momoko wasn't expecting that from Nana or Decky, who are usually friends with her, which is why the urine shot out of her like a water cannon (she was shocked). Look how quickly they made afterwards. At 5:55 Nana even nursed from Momoko quickly, as a sign of trust. There is nothing the staff can do to prevent these freak outs, but they should probably think twice about throwing loose leaves of lettuce or cabbage, as it seems to excite them. There was a major fight a few years ago when Kenta was alive, which was caused by loose cabbage being thrown in.
I understand i mean momko did nothing wrong the food was no where near decky he jus sat there n let her get it , get up off your ass and get the food of you want it tht was so uncalled for , momoko is vwry peaceful usual and jus keeps to her self and tht dang ant hill i was very surprised at deckys behavior today, i expect it from nana but decky respect points are down in my book, Fubuki straight steals food from deckys mouth/hand.....decky is also scared of BonBon, he must be intimidated by any male chimp and takea it out on a female
Momoko is going to be sore from all that kicking and pouncing on her head and back I don’t think the chimps get enough food or they wouldn’t be fighting as much this is the 3rd time ive seen the chimps get aggressive during feeding time. Other Zoos have more good to feed their chimps and they know they will have enough to go around .one bite of lettuce at TAMA will cause a fight this time everyone came out with a few bumps but next time might not be so lucky.
chicka boom - They get plenty of food and a great diet to keep them healthy so they don't become obese. The problem is that chimps can get upset if they are fed out of turn according to their rank. Nana and Decky were the alpha's of todays group. Even though Max is big enough to do what ever he wants. He still sits back and is patient. It is the way that they throw food to one chimp at a time that can be a problem. Some become impatient and if someone takes food out of turn, a fight can start. Cherry often rushes to get food that isn't thrown to her. She has had many squabbles with Nana or Peach because of it Both out rank her but she is pushy and even steals juice cans from the younger girls.
Why did decky join in and attack momoko? But he'd rather throw a temper tantrum cause fubuki's messing with him instead of doing to fubuki what he just did to poor momoko
Nana and Berry have been feuding for months and Decky always back Nana. It's no coincidence that Momoko was between Nana and Berry (up on the wire) when she was attacked. Decky reacted as Nana approached Momoko which triggered Decky to back Nana. Of course, their society is very complex and we will never really know.
