I had my video settings set at 2x speed and when I started this video I felt like I had whiplash.

You can easily read the Empire trilogy without having read any of the Riftwar cycle, there are some cross overs from Magician etc… but they are well explained and you don’t really miss anything by not having the back story etc…

Some things might be more meaningful if you read Riftwar first, but you can still understand the plot without it. I guess in July I'll continue with book 6 of the Expanse, the first standalone in the First Law series, a Discworld book, and the Prophet of Edan. And whatever else I feel like reading. No one cares cuz I'm not a booktuber. 😁

I'm super-excited for the Daughter of the Empire readalong I got it from the library years ago and didn't get very far before I had to leave town for work and I've never got back around to it I'm also going to finally get around to finishing Fahrenheit 451 this July

On the rest of my July TBR, I have: «Under Heaven» by Guy Gavriel Kay, «First Book of Lankhmar» (a «Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser» Omnibus) by Fritz Lieber, the «Vindolandia» Trilogy by Adrian Goldsworthy, «Tortilla Flat» by John Steinbeck, «The Tartar Steppe» by Dino Buzzati and, yes, «The Prophet of Edan» by Philip Chase!

I am joining your Empire Trilogy read along on audio with the narrator, Tania Rodriges. FYI, The Magician is a fantastic read, so it should not be missed with Arutha, Amos, yes, PUG, and Thomas. The Straits of Darkness is one of my favorite chapters ever.

Awesome stuff Allen! I’m finishing Prophet of Edan in July. Didn’t quite make it this month. I only finished one book by Feist, and that was Magicians Apprentice. It was mediocre at best so I didn’t continue lol.

Not sure if you've heard but Light Space Bringer comes out this month and I will be reading that. I even took off work to read it.

Allen have Josh Red Fury join your Daughter of the Empire discussion too. He just told me he enjoyed it as much as me!! We both love Magician but you definitely do not need to read it for Empire. The style is completely different than Feist that I surmise, Empire must be all Wurts!!

I’m still cracking up over the beginning of this 🤣 I’m going to be reading An Autumn War for sure this month and if I’m ambitious I’ll get through The Price of Spring too. I can’t wait. Also starting up Gardens of the Moon reread and some more SPFBO books 🔥

It's fine, for Daughter. While it takes place, timeline wise, during the events of Riftwar by Feist, for the *most* part, influences from that side are minimal and are explained as needed.

I'm so excited for the Empire trilogy readalong. I'm gonna have to push Daughter of the Empire to August, because life, but i'm still excited! Do you have to read the books in the Asian saga in order or can you just read one in the middle of the series and be fine?

If i can finally get over my Fantasy slump i might read Age of Ash again and then move onto Blade of Dream. I've haven't finished these yet, so I'm carrying them over into July: *Classic* The Three Musketeers / Alexandre Dumas *Historical-Fantasy* The Last Light of the Sun / Guy Gavriel Kay - GGK's take on the Vikings in England. I'm not much a viking enthusiast but it's pretty good so far. I really like Kay's pacing, prose and how he's just letting his characters be people. *Historical-Fiction* The Pillars of the Earth / Ken Follett - Its a very long book so I'm going to be doing this over a couple of months, unless it really takes off but I'm just over 40 pages in but so far so good. *Thriller* American Psycho / Bret Easton Ellis - I love the film and most of what I've read of Ellis' other work so I'd be very surprised if I didn't love this.
